Rich and his team were amazing to work with. As a commercial interior designer I work with construction companies all the time and Cross Construction stands out. The framing presented some unique challenges when it came to tying it into the existing historic structure. Rich and his crew worked with me to figure things out and deliver a quality product. He was patient through some unexpected delays on my end of the project and helpful in coordinating all phases of the work. I have rarely seen crews that work such long days in any weather to keep a job on schedule. While at the same time they were a crew that we felt comfortable having in our house with my young son running around for the duration of the project. Rich handled everything from tree removal and excavation, foundation work, framing, heating and AC, interior finish including hardwood floors, tile, paint and trim work, installed cabinets, lighting, and paving. Whatever his crew could not do themselves he had professionals who he coordinated that provided excellent work and a reasonable price. I can't say enough good things about Rich. If I did single-family design work I would use him for every job.

It went fine.  I called on Thursday afternoon (this was not an urgent request); they returned the call and said they'd be in touch Friday morning to schedule an appointment.  They did call, as promised, and had someone at our home by noon.  He was professional and worked quickly and thoroughly.

We recently had a complete bathroom renovation done
by Battistelli and Co. and couldn't be more pleased. The crew was
professional, courteous, attentive and very helpful. They worked with us to
create a beautiful bathroom and shared their knowledge along the way. The cost
was reasonable and we were pleasantly surprised with the final price after
adding to the project in the middle of the renovation. A big thank you to
Glenn, Billy, Doug and the rest of the crew!!!

The guy are great. I have small boys and the guys were very patient with them under foot and still managed to accomplish all the work in a very timely manner! They installed it, hauled the debris, the whole nine yards!

After receiving an advertisement from the firm in the mail, I looked on
Angie's list to see their rating.  I then used their website to submit a
request for conversation.  After not hearing back, and not being sure
if the website was working properly, I called them directly on January
2nd.  The individual answering the phone identified thimself as the
owner Chris.  We talked about my needs and I asked if he was
interested.  He said yes he was and scheduled time the following
Saturday, the 5th of January at 10am to see the house and scope the
work.  He took my number(s)  and address to plan the visit.
On the 5th, at 11am after waiting to see if he would appear, I called the
number he provided.  It went to voice mail.  I left a message,
expressing that perhaps I had misheard the date/time and wanted to be
sure all was ok and whether he would be rescheduling.
I never heard hear back at all from this vendor.

Covenant Construction failed in three main areas: 1) Incompetent as a general contractor. They did not manage or oversee subs effectively, including not ensuring the subs completed work to the agreed specifications and in one case completely walking away from managing a sub and forcing me, the homeowner, into managing the sub directly. 2) Craftmanship. They rushed the project and always looked for the easiest rather than the best way to do the work 3) Lack of customer service and accountability. When problems occurred, they did not want to take any responsibility for addressing the issues. They were completely unresponsive, even in "crisis" situations like the new roof leaking and damaging the plaster. They work very set hours (7:30 to 4:30) and essentially turn off their cell phones outside those hours. I assume most people have jobs during those hours and need to be able to communicate with their builder at other times, especially when I am finding issues that need to be addressed. I had to withhold some progress payments until they addressed issues. The following are a sampling of the specific issues I encountered: - failed to mix the concrete to specifications and once concrete is in, it really cannot reasonably be removed and replaced - roof leaked in multiple places - doors leaked in multiple places and they didn't want to reinstall them with better water proofing; they told me all doors leak - left out the rebar from the chimney and luckily caught it before they progressed too far - installed shims between the foundation and the sub floor to make it level but did not put any blocking in place where the wall studs were located to effectively transfer the weight between the walls and the foundation - cut the gable end roof trusses to install windows without installing the necessary blocking and headers - most of the exterior doors they installed would not open and close smoothy - stair stringers inconsistent in the rise between treads - framing around pocket door not sufficient to prevent warping / creating issues of opening and closing the door - specs required cast iron vertical drains, whereas they installed PVC throughout - specs called for copper water pipes; in order to shift costs from them to me, they used a system for connecting the pipes (no soldering) that reduced their labor time (which was a fixed price) but cost an exorbitant amount in materials (which was variable priced)

I don't have a bad word to say about my wife and I's experience working with Mike (owner of MDB). He has years of experence building in and around the Boston area, including a very good familiarity with the North Shore.

Our project was interesting from the start due to the zoning rules we had to work around. Initially our project was going to be bigger, but we had to scale it back and work with some pretty interesting restrictions to get everything we wanted. Rather than having to hire an architect to design my project, Mike did the builder's drawings himself, working closely with us on what we wanted to accomplish with the project. Mike listened to our needs, and designed an addition that is both beautiful, but also practical.

Once the zoning board was dealt with, MDB worked swiftly and efficiently to bring our design to reality. All of the sub contractors who worked on our job did high quality work, showed up every day they were supposed to, and completed their tasks on time and budget.

The quality of the work is impeccable, from the framing all the way down to the finish work. Our addition is beautiful, both looking at it from the street, to being inside the new rooms. Our family is completely satisfied both with how much the project cost, but also with quality of the results.

I would recommend that anyone looking to have work done on their house consider MDB as their company. The price was fair, everything that was included was in writing upfront, and all work was done to our liking. Do yourselves a favor and work with MDB!

Dealing with Mike Hickson and his son Jason is an experience that is difficult to emulate. The Hickson reputation is respected and adds value to any project they are involved in.
