    MasonWorks LLC
Jeff Souza the owner is very knowledgeable and helpful in design, also very open minded to our needs. Price was very fair. Crew of John, Alan, and Humberto were excellent. Top notch skills of masonry. Very professional and friendly. Bruno was site manager who came out initially to go over project and point person as project progressed and was very helpful and patient going over everything. Would hire again and highly recommend.

    MDB Construction Co
Mike and his son Tyler are great, they've done so much work on my house. I've used them for small projects and big additions. They just completed finishing my unfinished basement, including deleting the old narrow staircase and re-locating a brand new stair case for better/easier access. These guys and girl are all great. I've been using MDB for over 10 years on all kinds of projects for my house and they are totally trustworthy and professional, (and so nice to my dog). They get the job done quickly and with perfect attention to detail. They definitely go above and beyond to do the best work and make sure the customer is happy. Price is always good and right on the estimate, no surprises.

    Rescon Basement Solutions
Work came out great for most part, but very poor communication from everyone from rescon who had a part in working on my basement from people on the job to in the office. Also, permits were lost, job was somewhat late on timeline, and what day people were coming was constantly changing. Needed additional ceiling tiles that I was buying and was told wrong type when contacted rescon to find out what my project had used. Found out they were wrong type after purchasing from lowes which was just inconvenient. When I contacted them to let know, they apologized and said they would bring some extra tiles on them(never happened) Also, they came back to fix some other minor things once job was done and then job was poorly done when finally came back. For the amount of money spent on job I thought they'd be a little more professional such as not leaving part of wall unsanded and unpainted to begin and then thinking I could just do it. When they finally came back to finish sanding, painting and giving some of the correct ceiling tile (never got it) the job looked quickly and somewhat poorly done without tarp laid down and a mess on carpeted stairs when they could have used my shop vac which was down there to clean up their mess. Not sure if I'd recommend even though basement does look pretty good because of their poor communication, follow through, and neglect or annoyance of finishing a job the right way. I feel the longer time I spent dealing with them the worse my experience became.

Great work and they actually came in under budget. Good job, nice people. I tried to follow up with them regarding a driveway. I called probably 6 or so times over as many months with no response. I tried both the father and his son. I thought maybe they went out of business. I have no idea why my calls were never returned but I would use them again if I could ever get in touch with them, they were really good people.

David studied the site over 3 different visits before making his proposal - there were some drainage problems related to the City's repaving of the street several years ago. He coached me on questions to ask the DPW to confirm what they would allow. Once I had their answers, he returned and ran a hose over the existing driveway to assess the regarding needs further. He also came back during a heavy rainstorm to personally observe the drainage problems I had described.

His proposal was more costly than my other estimates but after listening to the detail of each proposal, I felt his solution did more to correct the issues we have and prevent them from returning - stronger foundation, more material, etc. He was willing to work to reduce price a bit as well.

In the two weeks since he completed his work, we have had two "gullywasher" rainstorms. Previously, these storms would have flooded my driveway with overflow from the street that would have drained into my yard, creating a pond beneath my shed. With the regarding, I was able to see that all the street drainage now remains in the street and drains into the city storm drain.

    Mission accomplished.

    Five Star Remodeling
Created Laundry Area in an unused closet on 2nd floor of home.  Required demoing existing cabinetry to widen the doorway, re-framing the door opening, installing new door, in addition to Water,  Electrical and Ventilation.   Did so without opening walls and ceiling and ripping out newly installed beadboard in powder room below, something none of the other bidders for the job said they could do. When the Plumbing sub "disappeared" there was another qualified plumber on the job the next day. Work was completed on time in the agreed upon manner with a beautiful well functioning outcome , all according to Building Code  and the work passed all inspections first time.

     2) "Remodeled" basement bathroom.  Actually demo'd most of the semi finished side of the basement including the three separate freestanding fixtures floating in the semi-finished DIYstyle  basement in a terribly inconvenient location and created an amazing  enclosed 3/4 bath in the area where the laundry had been including a neat and clean finished hallway and  a separate furnace room. Andersen and Pedro offered multiple options for addressing our needs. They took the time to explain the pros and cons of each option. They worked tirelessly to find creative, cost effective work arounds so that the finished  product was something they and we could be proud of.

They also cleaned up much of the extraneous wiring, pipes etc. that the previous owners, ardent DIYers left behind. Again all the work was completed to code and though it was not completed exactly on time the majority of the delay was due to occasional lack of availability of the various building inspectors  Don't want to distract from the point of this review, what a fabulous job Five Star Remodeling did but know that prior to engaging Five Star we had several really unpleasant experiences with other contractors related to this same job who wanted to cut corners or were fuzzy about costs or expectations for finished products.  If you have high expectations you will be very happy with Five Star Remodeling.

Scott came out and and gave me a quote within a couple of days of me contacting him. He gave me a great price because it was inside work during the off (slow) season. They came out when promised and finished in a few days. During the work it rained heavily and one wall was actively leaking. Scott rigged it so it would leak into a 5 gal bucket and would come back and do the repair which he did. He also suggested a contractor to come install a sump pump just in case which I did do . They came back in the spring to do the outside exposed walls and while doing that Scott saw where the water was likely coming from and he mitigated it by regrading and adding plenty of concrete. He even took some extra time to find some stones around my property and build a small wall to help channel water away from a problem spot. We had a slight misunderstanding over the price of the outside work but Scott was very professional about this and we came to an agreement My foundation looks great inside and out.

    Done Right Services
It went fantastically well!  The process takes several days as materials need to dry during various phases.  The results are amazing, though.  My basement was drafty and dusty due to the old mortar and many gaps in the foundation.  Jeremy and his crew did a wonderful job of re-pointing and sealing the foundation.
The re-pointing process is first pressure washing the walls to get rid of the old, dry mortar.  Next, new mortar is applied to fill in all the gaps, etc and allowed to dry.  Finally, another layer of mortar material is applied on the outside to completely seal the walls.  Thus no more water, critters or drafts coming through the foundation!
We also got the basement floor sealed.  First, the floor is acid washed to clean it and 'open' up the concrete so the floor material will bond best with it.  Second, any cracks are patched and finally the waterproof material is laid down.  It takes a couple of days to dry and then bingo!  the floor is now waterproof.
We are very happy with the job done and couldn't be happier with our "new" basement.  It is nice to not have to worry about water and mold anymore.  Also, we have forced hot air heating and thus the air intake is in the basement.  With the basement now sealed and mold free; we expect to not have as many colds this winter. :)

    Murray Masonry & More Corp
He had originally estimated an 8/12 start date several weeks ago.  Actual start date slipped but by less than a week.  Two men and a Bobcat arrived early on the Friday and by the end of the day had reset all the steps and grouted them in.  They came back on the Saturday for a half day and finished the capping, faired-in the path at the top of the steps in a way which would not collect water, mixing and pouring concrete about 3 ft by 3 ft by 4 inches thick.  Then they filled in the hole in the foundation, meeting an unexpected obstacle with 6 inch thick concrete to be penetrated before they could fill the hole from the outside, but they were fully equipped with an electric hammer and drilled through.
Good equipment - Bobcat with jaws to hold stone steps, gas-powered concrete saw to make clean joints to existing work, electric powered large hammer drill were all used on my job but you got the impression they had anything they might require with them.  Tipper truck with crushed stone was also used.
My only misgiving is that they did not appear to wet the concrete in the existing foundation, raising the risk that the concrete would not bond as well and could leak.  When I raised this issue with Brendan Murray he said he felt it would provide a waterproof seal from the sheer volume of concrete poured, but he would be prepared to come back and cover with a waterproof membrane if it became a problem in the future.
I am very satisfied with the job - especially as a previous masonry contractor had run away with the deposit and never even started the work.  The deposit required by Murray was more reasonable - 30% at the start of the job.
