  • Rob and his sons are truly remarkable craftsmen. They showed up on time, and let me know what was planned, worked hard each and every day they were here, and masterfully repaired our outstanding issues. Our house was uncomfortable this past winter, and so Rob came and went through all of the places that contributed to the coldness of the past winter, and he was patient as he explained everything. They were able to start soon after the estimate, and got everything done on the contract in a really fast time frame. We are really happy we hired them!

  • We set up an appointment to get an estimate from the manager of the company, who was in charge of our original job. The manager never showed up for the appointment. I tried contacting the company for the subsequent two months. I was always told that someone would get back to me or no one ever called me back. They refused to answer my phone calls. I finally decided to try from a different phone number, and they picked up on the first ring. I was again told that someone would contact me. The manager did eventually contact me that evening, but only through email. He proceeded to tell me that they were not interested in doing any repair jobs right now they were only going to be working on big jobs and that my repair job would have to wait until March 2018 to be even be considered. I find this terrible customer service for a company that we paid to Reside our entire home. We would not recommend using this company to anyone. They are unresponsive, have terrible customer service, and are only interested in the big jobs.

  • Vassili from VF construction was very knowledgeable, gave us very good ideas, was there from the beginning, always on time, the work he did was excellent, finished on time and on budget. We are very happy for all the work and glad to recommend him to anyone for any project

  • Dave was very responsive and demonstrated his experienced and practical perspective in the first visit, and he proved to be reliable and consistent once work started. For example, he always shows up at the time that was agreed, takes measures to avoid making a mess in the house, and cleans up after each work day. Dave has been a great help with helping us make decisions in terms of materials to use and style. Our kids responded well to Dave and team, which further helped make the project a positive experience for all. Finally, the work itself came out great and thanks to Dave's eye for detail and quality of work we've received many compliments on the final product.

  • Fabio and his team were First Rate. Having gone through experiences that were not so pleasant, in the past, my priorities were; 1 Quality of work 2 Punctuality and reliability 3 No cost surprises Their work could not have been better. They arrived when he said they would, each and every time, and there were no cost surprises, all work was done within the expected cost. I also am a person that respects and expects neatness and cleanliness. Fabio and his people kept a tidy job site and cleaned up after themselves. I have already recommended his work to others and will do so again.

  • The job went very well and our house had some tricky parts to work with. O'Sullivans were the only company who had a clear plan from the outset. At the end of the job we were delighted with the finish and workmanship. Unfortunately our windows focused the sun on one small part of the siding this summer causing it to melt. O'Sullivans responded perfectly. They replaced the siding and screened the windows to stop it happening again. I cannot recommend this company enough, both in the quality of their work, and their professionalism.

  • We called and set up a meeting to obtain an estimate. They sent a remodeling consultant named Scott Aponte who is listed on their website as a member of their "Estimating Team." He met with us on April 28 for more than 2 hours during which time we explained, in quite a bit of detail, what we wanted to have done. In our initial conversation, he told us that they had recently remodeled a bathroom similar to ours (our bathroom is only about 5' x 5' in size) for $50,000. Despite the fact that this company sounded like it would be on the expensive side, we told him that we wanted him to go ahead with preparing an estimate for us with as much detail as possible so that we could set priorities based on what we can reasonably afford. He indicated that he would prepare an estimate and we set up a meeting when he was supposed to come to our house again in about 2 weeks to go over the estimate. He failed to show up for the second meeting. I called the office in case there had been a misunderstanding about the timing of the second meeting and Scott said it was not on his calendar at all. I then wrote Scott another email with information that I had obtained in the meantime and asked him to send us an itemized estimate by email. He wrote back saying that they do not provide itemized estimates and that he thinks that we are inclined to pull our own permit and hire an installer and not a professional remodeling company. The conclusion that we would wish to pull our own permit was his, not ours. We would much prefer to have a contractor that would take care of all the permitting. And, given that we are expecting to spend a LOT of money in total on this project, we thought it was only fair to be provided with an itemized estimate so that we could understand what we would be paying for. Apparently, if you want to know how you are spending your money, don't go to Tom Curren because their "Estimating Team" refuses to provide itemized estimates, except maybe to tell you that a tiny bathroom will cost around $50,000 to renovate. We are disappointed in how we were treated and in the waste of our time.

  • Pat O’Connell is the owner and master carpenter of a building business doing business as O’Connell Carpentry. He has been in the trade for about 20 years and this business has going on ten years of history. He runs a small operation and keeps overhead down, and works on site on the project – which means that he fixes issues as they arise, rather than coming the following day to discover that something was done imperfectly and then subsequent work has gone onto a tangent because of it. In my experience, finding a competent carpenter is not the hard part in hiring a general contractor, although certainly some carpenters are willing to have it “good enough.” Pat is meticulous, and wants it right. It gnaws at him to look at something that was not up to his standard. But the difficult part in working with a General Contractor is either that they are not great communicators, or, that they don’t take accountability for the workmanship and timeliness of their subcontractors. This can cause bathrooms, for example, to drag on for weeks or months, because there are so many little steps requiring first a plumber, then the electrician, then the plumber, then the carpenter, then the glass guy, then the plumber again. Pat is an excellent organizer and an excellent communicator. If you call him with a question small or large, he’ll call you back. It doesn’t matter what time it is or what day it is, or if you are going to tell him he did something wrong (rare), or if you are going to change his mind. You don’t need to dread that he won’t want to take your call, or won’t want to call you back. He does, he gets on it, he gets his subcontractors involved, and he sorts it out. He’s outstanding in those regards. As to his subcontractors, he has the very smart strategy of working long term with a relatively small number of subcontractors that he trusts. This means that those guys rely a lot on Pat for business, so when he calls, they jump to. When you need them to show up on a specific day and time, Pat’s job ranks right up the list of priorities for them. The reality is that they are their own independent operators, so he can’t order them around. But he uses a great combination of good personal style, long term business relationship, and a no BS approach, so he gets what he needs, which means the client gets what they need. He probably brought in 7-8 different subcontractors (different specialties) for our job. I’d give 6 of them an A grade. 1 or 2 of them needed a kick sometimes, but Pat was the one doing the kicking. So it worked. Because of the nature of our project, we wanted the flexibility to change our mind as we went along and to change things if they didn’t look good. Therefore, we did not structure a fixed rate contract but rather did a “pay as you go” for fees and materials related to construction and carpentry. Most of the subcontractors were fixed rate, negotiated and managed by Pat. He did a good job of keeping the subcontractors at a fair rate. Although I don’t necessarily know what everything should cost, he does – and he did a good job of looking out for our interests. There were plenty of times that Pat went above and beyond for us. We had a large project in a four month window, and we were forced to move in on a certain date. There was a delay caused by the late arrival of a sink – partially my own doing – and Pat and his kitchen subcontractor negotiated and even paid extra to get the counter top guys to come on a Sunday just to make sure that we had a kitchen when we moved in. Many contractors would tell you “well, just move in and you’ll have a counter soon enough.” In another example, the baseboard heaters weren’t fully functioning in the fall when it started to get cold, and the cause of the problem was a bit of a mystery. Pat worked two full days and got the plumber there for three full days trying to test and fix, and finally they brought in a specialist who helped solve it. None of that was charged to me. That’s an example that Pat takes full accountability to make things right. There are other examples, but Pat has a value system that you want in someone you work with. I highly recommend Pat, and will hire him for any and all work I need done.

  • Impeccable work, with attention to detail.  Offers helpful suggestions for design even if that sometimes costs him extra time - but he truly wants the job to look great!
Prompt, reliable, pleasant to work with.  He and the crew act very professional.
    Cleans up the job site.
We are so pleased with the job, and would highly recommend him.

  • Mike Raskin is simply the best!  He has done several major construction projects for me, including a complete renovation of my 1950's ranch -- new exterior and interior, windows, systems, kitchen (including custom wood cabinets), and conversion of a 3-season porch to a master suite with full bath.  I was so impressed with his work, I hired him again to update my entire basement into a sophisticated lower level with fire-placed living room, small gym, bedroom, full bath, laundry, office, and storage. Mike managed to hide unsightly pipes and ducts with masterfully executed built-ins. His expertise is carpentry and woodworking, but can do almost anything, including plumbing. His attention to detail is second to none. He shows up when he says he will and puts in full work days. Mike is meticulous, cleaning up every day as if it were his last so you don't have to live with a mess. I have also hired him for several smaller projects (exterior siding and trim update).  I'm a realtor and have recommended him to several clients who also have been quite happy with his work. I find his pricing competitive and an excellent value.  I highly recommend him; his work is amazing, he is completely trustworthy, and a pleasure to deal with!
