    R & R Contracting
We hired R&R Contracting (Dan Nephew , owner - [*** Link removed ***] to do a major addition to our home. We could not be happier with the result or the process. Dan and his brother John are conscientious, hard-working, kind, patient, calm, levelheaded, capable and smart. They worked through difficulties one might anticipate encountering when expanding a house that is almost 150 years old. The project ended up being much larger than anyone anticipated, and the end result was amazing. Basically half of our house was redone. We are very grateful for their professionalism and heartily recommend R&R Contracting. What follows is a lot of detail illustrating how complex a project it was that R&R completed so well. We live in a house built in 1870 that had been expanded over the years, but it did not have a bedroom on the first floor, had too many flat roofs and had 1.5 small bathrooms, with only the half bathroom on the first floor. We wanted to expand the house to permit us to live longer in our home as we age. Specifically, the original scope of our project was to change our bathroom to a full bathroom, to change the flat roof over our living room to be pitched and to add a bedroom to the back of the house. We also wanted the alterations to facilitate the installation of solar panels later and to ensure that the new addition was done in ways that would permit us ideally to stay in the house even if we were to become disabled. In addition to R &R, we hired an architect to help us because zoning limits what can be done in small lots like ours and because we wanted to retain the basic shape of the house as faced from the front. Our project turned out to be complicated. Integrating the existing stone foundation to the new addition was challenging because of the risk of collapse of the original foundation. Maximizing the size of the bedroom to accommodate the smaller footprint required by zoning meant using different size lumber and spray foam insulation. This in turn made it impossible to have a window in the attic above the new addition. It was impossible/impractical to integrate the original HVAC system into the new addition because of the stone foundation. That meant installing a separate, second heating and cooling system. Installing the new bedroom revealed that our back mudroom was inadequately supported. It needed to be torn down and rebuilt. Because the new addition had an attic, our upstairs bathroom lost its one window. That led us to redo much of the upstairs bathroom When starting to install the peaked roof above the new living room, replacing the flat roof, we learned that the living room was not properly supported below nor did the roof above it adequately support our second floor. We needed to reinforce and then repaint the living room and redo its flooring. We needed to upgrade our electrical service to 200 amps to accommodate the new (second) HVAC system and to position our house for solar panels Dan and his team worked through all of these complications and because of them the end result for us was A full bathroom with a linear drain glass-enclosed shower with the smallest of lips permitting us to walk in easily A new bedroom with a walk-in closet and a barnyard door connecting to the bathroom, able to accommodate a wheel chair down the road. The walk-in closet door is actually a Murphy bookcase, an bookcase that can be opened. A newly painted and newly wood floored and adequately supported living room A new mudroom, replacing the old one A new deck, replacing the old one Refinished wooden stairs leading to the second floor A new wooden floor in much of the upstairs hallway 200 amp service An upstairs bathroom with a new sink, toilet, vanity, fixtures and built in cabinet where the windows was, also newly tiled and painted and with the bathtub refinished An attic above the new bedroom, with a pull-down ladder A peaked roof above the living room and the attic and the mudroom, meaning I have much less to shovel in a bad winter New wired smoke detectors A newly surfaced drive-way Because of our change-orders and the unexpected complications, the project was considerably over budget; but that has nothing to do with R&R. This kind of thing is common in projects like ours. We expected it; and when we started to approach our upper limit, we worked with Dan to limit expenses Dan did an amazing job hiring and handling subcontractors. This includes the electrical company he hired, the same one we had hired independently many years before to remove knob and tube wiring. When this one and the same company said during our project with R&R that there was knob and tube wiring to be removed, I showed Dan the companys original certification that the knob and tube wiring had been removed; and Dan worked with the company to remove the remaining knob and tube wiring for free Thank you to Dan, his brother John and R&R for an outstanding job!

    AR Home Renovations Corp
Old Detached Garage at house was falling down and needed to be torn down to the cinderblocks and rebuild. AR Home Renovation performed this work and rebuilt the Garage to have updated electrical, a single door rather than two smalls doors and a new A frame roof with additional storage space. Experience was excellent from start to finish. Additional Exterior and Interior work is being performed by AR Home Renovation in the followings months.

    Britton Homes LLC
Britton's project coordinator did a great job ensuring every contractor was there at the scheduled time. The work included digging the ground, laying the foundation, framing the garage, building, roofing, finishing, painting, paving the driveway. With the addition of the front deck and the garage, the house looks beautify. These guys are awesome.

    Eastern Shed Company
Excellent experience--color match of the siding to my house color was dead on, and the roofing shingles were the same as what I just used on my home. Extras were reasonably priced and well worth the money. Build quality was superior to some of the competition, and quoted delivery time was better. The installers were professional and diligent. They noticed a small dent in one row of the vinyl siding and they replaced that section before they left.

S E Sorensen Building and Remodeling
S.E.Sorensen is the best contractor by far, that I have used in my 24 years of home improvement projects. I only wish I had found them earlier. Scott Sorensen was phenomenal. His prices were reasonable; he was always pleasant, and extremely trustworthy. I was under severe time constraints, due to insurance coverage to get the project completed. Scotts team worked 7 days a week to ensure my deadline was met. The end product far exceeded my expectations! I would highly recommend S.E. Sorenson to anyone considering a home project.

Came on time and got the shed installed in about 2 hours.  Started with blocks and shims and then put the floor down.  Sides and roof went up quickly.
I will check after 6 months to make sure the shed is still level and has not settled.

    Alpha Omega Property Services
Outstanding!  Their estimate was lower than we expected it to be after they came out to inspect the job. They arrived when promised, completed the bulk of the work in one day, returned when promised after the mortar had a chance to cure, and finished with a thorough cleaning of the steps.
I was considering doing this job myself and realized when they were done that it would have taken me 5 times as long and they did a vastly superior job than I ever could have!  Matthew and Jeremy were very professional, high integrity, efficient, and extremely capable.  My wife and I could not be more pleased, plan to use them for several other projects, and recommend them without qualification.

This provider has worked on our house before, and has gotten to know the house and its quirks.  We told him that we did not expect a finished basement, we just wanted one that would not be "scary" .  The floor was uneven and the pipe from the old and unused oil tank was showing through the concrete.   There were a few rooms with walls barely still standing.  We wanted to preserve the heart pine raised wood floor room, even though we didn't know its intended purpose.  Our neighbor has since told us his 85 year old relative remembers playing in it as a play room, and was hoping that we didn't get rid of it.
As usual, Nick came daily, even when sub-contractors were working.  He always knew what they were suppose to be doing, and made sure it was done.  He kept us informed of any problems or concerns he had. He was willing to use some old tiles we had for the basement sink and back splash.  He even went along with my idea of tiling  the wide window sill above the basement sink.
Nick had the asbestos removed and sill insulated.  He, and his crew, removed scary rooms, water proofed the exterior walls, put up a wall to section off the furnace from the laundry area, and put up dry wall for the laundry area.  and all the other things mentioned above.  Previously, both the hot water header and the dryer were vented through basement windows.  This not only made the windows unusable as windows, but also caused concerns whenever the snow might cover the vents.   The new vents are higher and will not be an issue with snow.
We had recently begun to see some water on the basement floor.  One of our neighbors had a leak in the water  main to his house and we thought this might be the cause.  Then the town and the neighbor's plumber came by to check out our situation and decided that the problems were with the our drains.   We also had a drain specialist out to check the drains, and found that we had a whole house drain (the house is old) which needed to be changed.  Even with all this done, the water issue was still there.  Nick came to wait for the plumber to see what else could be the cause.  He looked under the built in wooded storage benches and found that the problem was with an old pipe under the raised wood flooring going to the radiator in the play room. He had a new pipe install which circumvents around the out side  of the room; so any problems will not be hidden.
The new stained  concrete floors look very nice and are easy to keep clean.  The walls are freshly painted, and the heart pine floors and benches in the play room were sanded and stained and look great! The laundry  sink and tile are perfect for the area.   Going down to the basement is no longer an unpleasant experience.

We emailed with the provider a couple of times in December but did not schedule an appointment. Attempted to resume contact in August, but the provider never replied. Checked Angie's List again and found numerous negative reviews since The Big Deal was offered.

The first time we were scheduled to have our shed delivered, the delivery men showed up, unloaded the truck, and then got in a fist fight in the street in front of our house and front of our little girl! They then packed up and left. We got a very apologetic call from the manager later that day who was eager to work with us to set a new time (after assuring us that both employees had been fired and this had never happened before). He also took $500 off the price of the shed. When they did come the second time, the shed was up in less then three hours and we have been very pleased with the construction and looks of it.
