    Horizon Chimney Services Inc
When Derek came and bid on the job, he was understandably apprehensive about what might lurk behind the fireplace on the wall and under the fireplace on the floor. Unfortunately, I signed the contract too quickly, assuming it was "worst case" price and neither read nor understood sufficiently, thinking the price included the stove. The long and short is I paid $24,420 for the removal of old fireplace and installation of new $3000 wood burning stove. The quality of the work was good. My only objection is the EXTREME price. The whole job including demolition was 2 days - 6 hours each. You be the judge. This was not a finish job as the attached final picture shows.

    Boston's Best Chimney
Very well, three-man crew was neat, put down drop cloths everywhere and vacuumed. Spent an extra hour (no charge) trying to get the pellet stove to go in with the front flush with the front of the fireplace, ended up concluding that the problem was that the pellet stove was about 2" too deep for the fireplace, not their fault--but I appreciated their effort trying to fix this aesthetic detail. Living room showed no dirt or dust after they left. All three of them knew what they were doing, personable guys too.

    Complete Chimney Service Inc
DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. In recent years, our HVAC maintenance guy told us he couldn't find the liner in the chimney. Based on that, we called another Angie's List Super Service chimney company to assess the situation. They poked around and took pictures in the chimney so I can verify that this is true. The new company found that the work by Complete Chimney was not completed, incorrectly installed, and in one case, not done at all despite charging us for it. They are a complete scam!

Jim did a great job - very happy with the new firebox, and he was on time, quick and on price. I'd be glad to hire him again. I'm really enjoying being able to use my fireplace now. In addition, Jim came back a few days later, after we'd already paid him, to acid wash the new brick and mortar, since that was a cleanup you couldn't do until the work had dried.

The inspection wasn't exactly high tech: an assistant who did much of the work shone a flashlight up the chimney to check for loose bricks and other issues. None were noted. The cleaning seemed thorough and he correctly noted that we don't use the fireplace often, yet a fair amount of black soot was swept down into the hearth. He had laid down a black tarp beforehand and moved a nearby couch, so the mess was minimized and I thought he cleaned up very nicely. Watching them put a ladder against the house to get up on the roof to the chimney was harrowing because we have a lot of low power lines, but there was ultimately no problem. The assistant suggested a chimney cap priced around $450 for parts/labor and was perfectly pleasant when I declined. Not sure if that's a reasonable price.

    Bonanno Construction Inc
We hired the company to reface our fireplace in June 2014 and were told that they were 6 weeks behind .  In mid July I contacted them again and was not that it would be mid September.   In Sept, I told them that we were going on vacation on Oct. 11th and was told that it would be done before then.  On Oct 5th, when I hadn't heard anything I contacted them again and asked them to have the decency to give me an honest answer.  They said they were sorry, but if we could wait they would take something off the price.  I agreed.  Am still waiting.  I emailed them on Feb. 23, 2015 and asked them for feedback and received no response.  We have now hired another company.  I consider Bonanno Const. to be blatant liars and wonder what kind of work they do.  Would not trust them.    This is my first use of Angie's list and am not impressed.

Advised that I need to replace the liner for the furnace chimney.  Also gave suggestions as to why the draft in fireplace seems to have disappeared, causing smoke to come into the house when the fireplace was in use.

The overall experience was great.  The shop owner quickly set an appointment to take measurements for the replacement.  He brought a catalog with different choices - there were basic decisions driven by the type of fireplace, then several finish options with the style of metal/glass.  He took the time to explain the exact type of fireplace we had and the choices available - and worked with us in making the final selection.  Since this is a custom solution the unit was ordered and delivered in ~3 weeks.  We scheduled an install - the old one was removed and the new one installed in the time promised.  Work was done very neatly with no mess left behind.  Overall Adam's Fireplace Shop was very pleasant to work with and the quality of the work was very high.

    Titan Plumbing & Heating
.On their first visit they tuned up the gas fireplace, on an Angie's List Deal, but we needed some electrical  work we knew we needed on a return visit. They had to remove the fireplace and allow access for the electrician who performed the job very efficiently. On both visits Anthony, from Titan was extremely professional and explained everything in detail that was done and needed to be done.  Jason, the electrician also did a very good job. All work was explained, performed well and the work areas were well maintained. I would definitely recommend this company and would use them again.

This man is a true professional. He has 42 years experience in the fireplace/installation business and was a breath of fresh air compared to the fireplace shop phonies who made things up as they went along. He always answers his phone is truthful and gives you an honest assessment of what he can and cannot do how long it will take and is always on time with reasonable prices. What more can you ask for? I wish he had 2 clones, one to sell the fireplace inserts and another to do the actual installation!
