  • MasonWorks was great, I had gotten two quotes and while their's was a little higher I went with them since they seemed more organized and professional and I am glad I did. They kept in contact when a stretch of bad weather delayed them and still completed it in a timely manner. They exceeded my expectations and I would I definitely recommend them and I'd use them again.

  • Excellent service. At work early and stayed right on schedule. One of the Masons was Jacks son and he and his work partner were polite, focused, skilled, and job site was immaculate at the end of each work day. Jack came out to the job site each day to progress and check the work. Great guy who knows the trade. At end of job he was right on his estimate number despite a few obstacles with the old stairs. I will hire these guys again in a heartbeat for any future work.

  • The initial quoting process went well. I liked the fact that there were details  on the quote about how the work would be done. Since I decided to go with the blocks instead of stone for the retaining wall after getting several quotes, and MasonWorks Landscapes did not do blocks/segmented wall (I found out later after the quoting), I went with another company to build the retaining wall.
After the retaining wall was done, I reached out to the MasonWorks Landscapes about the remaining of the project (repointing the front porch concrete wall, rebuilding the walkway and front steps). Since I would like to reduce the length of the walkway by several feet, the owner (Jeff Souza) of MasonWorks Landscapes wanted to see the job again before he was willing to adjust the quote. We made an appointment to meet at 8:15am of 10/08/2015.
I waited at home in the morning of 10/08/2015. It was already 8:30AM, but I had not heard door bell rang or received any phone call about possible late arrival. So I called Jeff' at 8:32am. No one answered the phone so I left a voice message to ask Jeff to call me back. I did not get any call back either. It was already 8:51am and I had to go to work. Before heading out for work, I emailed Jeff asking why he did not show up or return my phone call.  This is the exact reply I got from him "I we will not do your job. You can have the same guy that built your wall do your walkway". So it appears that Jeff did come to my house and walked away without bothering to notify me after he saw the retaining wall. I think that was very unprofessional. Even though he probably had every right not to do the work, he should not let me wait since we had an appointment. This is the first contractor I have encountered so far who walked away only because he did not get the whole project. I guess he probably had no concern of turning down customers since he had high rating on Angie's List.
Here I would like to ask MasonWorks Landscapes to put their hidden rule upfront in the quote to all their potential customers,i.e. you will not take the job if you do not get the whole project. And you do not do block/segmented retaining wall. This way, you will not waste your potential customers' time and your time too. I hope future customers be careful when dealing with this company to make sure they can do all what you want to do.

  • Timing wise, job proceed pretty much according to Jim's plan. No problems or issues. Brick veneer looks like new. Nice and clean and sealed.  Stone stoop had been coming apart. Jim repaired. It also looks great. They were a bit sloppy, but no big deal.

  • For this job, we had the recommendation of neighbor who had the same project completed 4 years ago. Louis and his team showed up on time, communicated with us effectively, and did a thorough and excellent job, with much focus on details. All of the work (excavation, addition of new gravel and mesh cables, pouring of concrete and leveling) was completed in 3 days. We were also given the follow-up instructions that we needed (e.g., you can walk on it in one day, but don't drive on it for 30 days), which we complied with.  It has been 7 weeks now, and we are very happy with the result. Working with Louis was a pleasant experience, and we would hire him again.

  • I received the firewood the same day that I called and in the time window that I was told. Two thirds of the firewood was damp and covered in dirt. After sorting and stacking all of the wood, I ended up with 9 wheel barrows full of debris consisting of dirt and wood debris too small to do anything with. Needless to say I was very disappointed.

  • Overall went well. His estimate was one reasonable ($20,000 less than the top one!). Chip suggested the lighting which was not in our original plan and this was an excellent addition. Workers were very reliable, arrived early, worked hard, cleaned up every day. Owner (Chip Gill) could have been on site more. We noted a problem with the layout of stone wall the workers were building. Chip responded and corrected problem, but he should have noticed it. Once the job was largely done, he has been less responsive about responding to problems with erosion in back which is undermining patio. This has left an unresolved issue which is a shame because we love how the landscaping and lighting look.
