Tire Buying And Repair reviews in Amherst

    Firestone Complete Auto Care
When I returned to pick up my car, they told me my brakes needed an immediate $967.05 repair (they put this in writing). Both the rep and a mechanic came out to speak with me. They told me my brakes were "completely rusted out," and that the right rear brake was not gripping at all. They said the car was not safe to drive, and I should have the work done immediately. Instead I took the car to my local Ford dealer (the car is a 2013 C-Max), They did a thorough inspection and told me there is absolutely nothing wrong with the brakes: no rust, no malfunction, and there is at least 50% wear remaining. I have been a customer of this Firestone store for many years. However, this action was clearly fraudulent, and I will not return. I phoned the Firestone manager to inform him of the incident.

    AMHERST TIRE CENTER
When I called the first time I was quoted 254.00 a tire and was given a number for a junk yard where I might find a spare set of wheels for the snow tires. Because there are no steel wheels for my car and the price was too high for new ones, I called back to ask about them putting the tires on/off fall and spring. Same guy then found tires each nearly 100.00 cheaper, saying they were just as good. Why did I not hear about these the first time?
When they put the tires on, it took nearly two hours, even though I had called ahead about a good time to go in. Then they overinflated the front tires, though the recommended settings are posted right on the door, and my tire pressure light went and stayed on even though I tried to reset it. Had to return and wait again for them to figure out this was the problem and reduce the pressure to what is appropriate for this car. Rather annoying.
Now looking for tires for my son, not sure I'll use them again. Location is certainly convenient.

One of the tires was correctly replaced, the other (L) was incorrectly and quot;seatedand quot;. We were on a two-hour journey on the Mass Pike, towing my trailer with my horse, when we were pulled over by a (Good Samaritan) trucker on vacation from Texas; he pulled us over because he noticed the left front tire wobbling badly. That saint led us to a parking lot where he spent an hour checking things. He showed us how the tire was -and should have been- seated, put it on correctly and then tightened all the lug nuts. All of them had been loosened by the instability. He did not think we could have made the next hour on the road without catastrophe.
    Criminal carelessness.
When I returned from the journey, I went directly to the manager of Amherst Tire, who apologized, then offered to replace the lug nuts. THAT was all.
I am still considering a law suit.

    LIA TOYOTA PARTS DEPT
They're extra-ordinary. It's the best place I've ever been to because they do everything under the sun. They'll sell you a new car and when you wait they'll give you a ride into town, a cup of coffee, a bagel, hang out with you and pick you up. It's a good business model, they make it painless to bring your car in, and I've never been in a situation where I felt they were trying to scam me.

    Duffy Tire Service
I think incredibly highly about the guy there and he is like a gold mine. I have been going to him for 25 years. The prices are phenomenal and they are really good. He has converted an historic house into a tire place. They are really nice and friendly. It's the best tire place I have ever seen. We have been there quite a bit. The tires that I got were about $380. The prices are really good and the tires are of good quality. They have been in business for a long time. It's a family thing like two brothers who are right next to each other; one has got a tire shop and the other one is into car repairs. They are great. I would definitely use their services in the future too.

Their location is very close to us and they are convenient. We were in a time crunch. We would have expected them to check all the tires and we are not sure they did. They are okay and we trust them enough that we would take our car back to them.
