  • I really want to thank Jeff and his crew for replacing the windows and door. Jeff worked with me on the payment plan since this job is really on the high end of my budget. He was able to let me extend one more month before i make my final payment. Quality was great. the crew was very easy to work with and professional to make sure everything is clean up and personal belongs are not disturbed. I definitely want to rehire them to do the next phase of my window replacement at the end of this year.

  • I purchased a 2-houur "Big Deal" for $99 from Angie's list and expected to pay the full rate if his work exceeded 2 hours, which did actually take 2 extra hours.  He did arrive 15 min late, but that wasn't taken off the 2 time purchased.  He was very polite and accommodating as I discussed the projects to complete, but I noticed right away that he moved VERY slow, and this was the pace throughout the morning.   It is fair to say that I have used the services of Handyman Matters twice in the past and had exceptional, fast and capable people doing the work, so this was a big surprise to me and disappointing compared to past experience.
The bathroom grab bars were installed where I wanted them, but he did chip a tile near a corner tile and asked me if it was ok to fill it with grout which I agreed to because it is an old bathroom which needs to be remodeled sometime in the future anyway.  I do think, however, that he could have been a little more careful in installing the grab bar not so close to the edge of the tile.
I knew that he was aware of the work I was planning for him to do (like installing fire and smoke alarms on ceilings) so was quite surprised when he asked me if I had a ladder.  It was lucky that I DID have a ladder which he used, but I would have thought that would have been one of the tools on his truck or one he would have brought since he knew what he would be doing.  Smoke detectors, however,  were all installed correctly and quickly I should add.
I totally understood that the weather stripping on the 3 outside doors would be difficult and maybe even impossible to accomplish because I have a 130 year old house and the trim around the doors weren't of standard size.  I could tell that he was trying his best to do a good job and the weather stripping was installed.  The problem was that the stripping made the doors too tight making it impossible for me to open the doors.  I suggested that he trim the stripping around the door knob and lock on the front which he did reluctantly, but it was the only way I could get the door open.
He was about to leave after his 4 hours of work, when I thought I should try the other two doors which he worked on before he left.  I soon found that I was also unable to lock and unlock my back and side door, but was very happy I discovered this before he left or I would have had to call him back to fix this.  Perhaps he should have made sure I could do this especially with the problem we had with the front door.  He stayed two more hours to fix the problem with the back and side door but since they were not installed correctly (so I could open the door), I asked that he not charge me for the extra 2 hours because he considered the job done and was leaving when I noticed the problem.  He kindly agreed and spent the time adjusting the weather stripping so it did not obstruct the door opening and closing.
All in all, I was not satisfied in this work, but need to mention again that I had two previous good experiences with Handyman Matters.

  • The job went very smoothly for the most part, a minor problem due to water damage was resolved quickly. Joel the owner was very responsive and you can tell he takes pride in his work.

His crew always showed up on time and the work site was kept very clean during the project. The finished product looks wonderful, all of my neighbors have remarked what a nice job was done.

  • Sergio is professional and courteous. His phone sometimes does not take messages, but he always returns the calls promptly. His tile guy is great, and did a wonderful job on our bathroom floor. We would definitely consider hiring him again when we redo our kitchen floor. His carpenter people put up the walls really efficiently. The sliding pocket doors apparently are not that common, and therefore the locking mechanism caused a little problem. Sergio worked with us on that, and provided a solution that was very satisfactory. Sergio was willing to arrange things and accommodate our schedule. Due to a family situation, I needed to be ready to fly to the other coast at very short notice. I told Sergio this, and he did his best to finish quickly so that I would be free to leave sooner. Sergio made sure that his people are all very aware of the condo association rules and keep the working area and outside hallways clean. As new owners, we really appreciate that.

  • Stop your search: Mirah is the general contractor you want. Pat is a trained engineer who finds solutions. He is always on the job. His governing principle seems to be, Do one job at a time with total commitment . He was in our house in late May and had finished 95 percent of it by August. He also works extremely well with his subcontractors and public officials. Pat had great suggestions. In addition to our scope-of-work he installed a stained-glass window, built a platform for our W&D and found us a new Anderson door. He did all this at no or small extra charge. He also honestly said what wasn t worth fixing. I m not going to nickel-and-dime you, he promised. He did not. One of our relatives is a high-end architect and interior designer. She could not believe what Pat accomplished; it looks as if we spent twice what we did. Pat Costello is a cheerful can-do professional who will delight in doing the job right. We cannot recommend him enough.

  • Overall my experience was fine. I felt that they could have done a couple of things better, but nothing bad happened. The price was average, but the quality was above average.
