Dan of Littleton Earthworks just wrapped up Phase 2 of a huge landscaping project at my home. After 25 years of living here, everything was overgrown, worn out and basically in need of a major overhaul. I dreamed of a refreshing, energizing and clean outdoor palette of beauty that would capture each of our four seasons’ dimensions. Dream is now reality. This phase included tree removal & pruning, stone wall rebuild, patio and walkway installation, irrigation system, over 15,000 sq feet of sod grass, way too many new plantings for me to count, and landscape lighting. To say the final outcome is gorgeous and beyond my expectations is an understatement. Everything was beautifully designed and executed, and WITHIN BUDGET! What sets Dan apart is his attention to the tiniest of details. He doesn’t just create a beautiful outdoor living space, he attends to all the unseen details that ensure this new space will function properly and perfectly while we sit back and enjoy the gorgeous new views. His enthusiasm as he executes the plan is so refreshing. And, he takes ownership of all the people needed to get the job done; with my own demanding job, that was a huge win for me. Lastly, the extremely detailed cost estimate Dan provides for each project, and then the actual final invoice is something I have never been provided from any other service provider. Each line item is tracked to arrive at the final cost, showing exactly where the project was under- on- or over-estimate. There is one phase remaining in my major yard overhaul. I look forward to working with Dan in 2019 to complete the 360-renovation. Without exception or the slightest of reservation, I highly recommend Dan of Littleton Earthworks. Thank you, Littleton Earthworks!

I had Manning here to do several jobs including installing a walkway, patio and doing some general landscape work including some plantings spending somewhere around $10K. The patio/walkway work I have not complaints about...they did a nice job..even re-seeded the grass that they messed up during installation. The issue I have is with the plantings. They told me there is a 1 year guarantee on the plantings so when I contacted them in the Spring (they planted the previous fall) to let them know at least one of the plantings didn't make it through the winter all I was told was, "We'll tell Bud and he'll get back to you". Well after at least 4-5 more calls/emails and 6-8 months, I've finally given up. Too bad too b/c they did do some nice work but they just don't stand behind their work. I'm wondering now what would have happened if I had problems with the patio or walkway....guess I would have been out of luck.

This could be the best service I've gotten from any contractor I've ever hired, and I've had some good ones. (Check my other reviews.) My neighbor got a quote from them to cut down down and remove a large fallen tree limb that lied on our property line. Since I needed a lot more work done, I figured I would call them for a quote and include the fallen limb as part of the job. I called and owner Bud Manning came the next day to look over the job. He was right one time. I had a quote emailed to me two days later. Because the quote for the lawn replanting was $500 less than another one I had, and because Manning had so many good online reviews, I decided to hire them without getting other bids. So I don't know if their price rating should be an A or not, so I gave them a B. The best isn't always the cheapest anyway. About a week later, they came to do all of the work except replanting the lawn. This work was mostly tree work and this needed to be done before the lawn could be replanted, and we wanted the lawn replanted before hot weather set in. So we were very grateful to get the tree work done at this time because most tree removal companies had lengthy backlogs due to the March snowstorm that caused so much damage. The crew showed up a bit early on a Saturday morning and worked very hard and efficiently until all tasks were completed, about five hours time. They did a bit more work than was required (e.g,. additional tree trimming) and all tasks were done to our complete satisfaction. In late April and early May, they returned to replant the lawn. On the first day, they removed all of the old lawn and vegetation, brought in 155 cubic yards of loam, and graded it. Much of the old topsoil had been removed when we had a new septic system installed. Two days later they returned to apply the hydroseed. Bud Manning emailed me detailed information about hydroseed and its care. It's now late May and the grass has grown in quite nicely. I cannot think of one thing Manning Tree & Landscape could have done better.

The work that these guys did was very good and everyone was very helpful when I spoke with them. The big issue was communication as they were very slow to respond and were unable to provide an accurate schedule for the work. It was very frustrating at times. If the communication improves then this is a great company and would definitely use them again.

Unfortunately, this business has proven they are extremely unprofessional. The owner, Miguel, contacted me via Yelp to give his business a try. I try to support local businesses that are trying to grow, so I left our previous landscaper- who charged less- and gave Colonial's services a shot. I regret that decision now. First, Miguel did build a retaining wall for us that we do think is great. It was not the cheapest estimate, nor was it the best craftsmanship, but it is significantly better than what we had previously. However, he damaged part of our siding, which ended up being a hassle for us, but I tried to be understanding. He did pay to repair it, but the work of the company he hired was subpar. I decided to give him more business by contracting him to build our patio. I would have happily paid more for better craftsmanship. The details in the design are okay, but not great. Some chipped and malformed stones were used. Miguel replaced one stone, which is great on his part, but he left a gap. The quality isn't bad, it's just not great. I wanted great. Also, the dimensions are off. It was supposed to be 15x15. It's off by over a foot- not big deal, but it speaks to attention to detail. Also, he removed part of our downspout without asking. Then he charged us for the cost to repair it. He should have discussed this with us prior to removing anything not specified in the contract. He put our project off for over a month to appease other higher paying jobs- a professional wouldn't do that. A paying customer is a paying customer. Meet your contract. Lastly, there were a number of miscommunications. The kicker: he cancelled our service, without warning in the middle of the season, citing that he could not find other business in the area. I switched services to give this business a shot, ultimately, it was a bad decision. Now I need to find a new landscaper- and Colonial hasn't mowed our lawn in two weeks. He seems to have good intentions, but there's a lack of professionalism and follow through.

My yard was nothing but scrub trees, roots, rocks, a badly placed stone wall and old tree stumps - a haven for woodchucks and almost too difficult to mow - coupled with poor drainage and a badly deteriorated front step. The work that Dan, his crew and subcontractors accomplished in just a couple weeks is unbelievable. While always professional, hard working, and "no nonsense" while on the job, they were also always very pleasant and easy to talk to. Dan was personally on site to direct and/or participate in every aspect of the project. They removed several dangerous trees and tree stumps, a truck load of boulders, excavated the woodchuck burrow, replaced the badly deteriorated front step with beautiful bluestone, and regraded and filled the front and side yard areas to resolved serious drainage issues to preserve the home before installing the new lawn and plantings. The end result is a true transformation. Dan is an artist when it comes to landscape design, from selection and placement of each plant set off by gorgeous stones, an outer farmer's wall to define the front line, beautiful new trees, and a flower garden that is a balm to my soul. He was sensitive to relocate and use existing plants that had special meaning to me. He is responsive to my questions, has guided me in proper lawn and garden care and returns to check on how the lawn and plants are doing. No one can control the weather, but Dan is there for the long term to make sure the end result is beautiful. His pricing is detailed, transparent and fair. He explains every item carefully both before the contract is signed and after the work is completed. The only slight negative is that because he is so good and in demand, one may have to wait awhile for work to begin - but the wait is worth it. I definitely plan on using him again.

Very well. One note to be aware of, they prefer to leave all clippings, etc. on-site (no removal-no removal fee!), so if your yard has no convenient woods to leave stuff, you may want to discuss this issue with them when they come to quote!

Once purchased, there was no notification as of delivery time until I inquired. When a day was determined, there was no show even after I texted to see if they were coming. There was some rain on the day expected. They did come the very next day and did an excellent job.

We have hired Highgarden for a few landscaping jobs over the last year and have been happy with the results. Unlike other landscaping companies, which are often difficult to reach, Russ is very quick to respond and to provide quotes. He is knowledgeable and always takes his time when meeting to discuss a project, to understand exactly what we are looking for and to provide advice when requested. When doing the work, he and his crew pay attention to detail. Russ personally ensures the finished product is up to his high standards. We are grateful to have found a landscaper who we know is reliable and who we will look to first for future jobs.

Todd and Lincoln Landscape did a good job removing the pine trees and clearing the brush, and created a nice grade with large amounts of new soil. The lawn never came in- and it was sufficiently watered. Although the grass was under warranty, they billed us when it was re-seeded after many phone calls. The grass never came in and we have a large side yard with dirt. We remember vividly how the owner said we would have a beautiful lawn. We believe they did not use enough soil to fill.
