"We are in our mid-60s so we went with a product with a 30 year warranty. I was extremely stressed over picking a roof color that I would have to look at for the" rest of my life. Then my husband and
agreed the siding on the dormers needed to go so it could be re-flashed and the siding replaced by cement board and painted. Since we had not planned to re-side until 2015, I was even more stressed that the cement board would not match the aluminum siding on the first floor.
promised me I would not be able to see any difference. He kept his word right down to the Federal blue trim. My husband and I both were extremely pleased with the workmanship, quality and colors. Even more important is a person keeping their word and you can trust this company to do so.

"My house was built in 1963 and the roof has been replaced once, although we have had work done around a large skylight repeatedly. I got five estimates before making" a decision because it was such a major improvement; biggest one I've handled since my husband died.
Wise was exceptionally patient with me from the very beginning -- answering my questions, advising me, and clarifying terminology that was unfamiliar. In talking with friends, I had two who had hired
and they had been pleased with the work done. Once I made the commitment, scheduling was done absolutely according to my time. No one tried to hurry me. The preparatory checklist made it very easy to be ready for the arrival of the work crew. Everything
told me to expect happened according to schdule. I especially appreciated the respect and care for my property. They did all kinds of precautionary measures to protect my shrubbery, deck, yard, and driveway. They were organized and well-trained in that they wasted no time. The on-site manager was knowledgeable, definitely in charge, responsive to my questions, and courteous. We needed to consult on a couple of things during the day and he was amenable to my points of view. The crew was professional, stayed on task, and were also courteous. They had a radio playing music for themselves, but I did not even hear it until I went outside. It did not carry all over the neighborhood -- or even into my house. Just goes to show you, music can be enjoyed without blaring into the atmosphere. I particularly liked that they loaded all the debris in a trailer they brought with them and carried it away at the end of the day. There was not a huge dumpster sitting in my driveway for a day or two. They used big magnets to pick up nails all around the perimeter of my house. (There were a few nails and small scraps of roofing material that I found in shrubbery during days after, but the very visible debris was certainly collected and removed.) Following the work's completion, I studied the roof very carefully from my seat on the deck. Within a day or two I had questions about a couple of areas. Called
and asked him to come out and look at them with me. He did that and our resulting discussion allayed my concerns. During that visit, I pointed out an area of cedar siding adjacent to one area of roofing that had been damaged during the roofing. The siding was "fragile" in places and replacing all the cedar siding was on my to-do list for 2015, but I was concerned about moisture getting into the damaged area. I asked
if he could have someone nail a cover over the small area. As we talked about my plans and the best approach, he offered to have someone come out and look at the sided portion of the house. (It is an addition to my otherwise brick structure.) The very next day
called, made an appointment for later that same day. When he assessed the situation, he made a very reasonable estimate to have the cedar boards replaced and repainted instead of waiting until 2015. I accepted the proposal and within a week, the work was scheduled and done. The two men who did it were not quite as conscientious as the roofing crew, probably because they did not have an on-site supervisor with them. They misread some instruction on
's proposal too. They did not clean up as carefully as the earlier workmen did and they did not finish the work in one day. What they did do was well done, but I asked
to come out to inspect the job and talk with me. He did. I expressed my reservations, especially about the misread instructions. The result was something I could live with, but I did want another coat of stain on the siding (done a little more carefully) and I wanted my dish TV cables fastened back more neatly and completely. He agreed to have that done and I asked him to delay until spring because by that time we were getting a lot of rain; and I did not want the problem of trying to schedule staining around that. Plus I did not want a hurried job. Several days later, I found a paint tray and a roller cover tucked under the
of my deck among some ground cover. I think the workmen were in such a hurry they did not take time to double check the area. I'd say they were not of the same quality as the roofing crew. I had a call from
already this year asking if I was agreeable to having that additional work done back when we were having some nice weather. I declined, giving basically the same reason -- just wait until the weather is warmer and dryer. Overall, I was very much pleased with the people with whom I spoke and worked. I felt that my questions and observations were handled with consideration and respect. Never did I feel that any of my calls were a nuisance. Their response (to calls) time was always prompt. In fact, I could reach
on his cell phone very readily. I am so glad that job is done! Since I am 80 years old, I'll never have to re-roof my house again, but
did everything they could for me to make it go smoothly; and I very much appreciate the company and its representatives.

Wow, i aum surprised you didn't get 10 answers already with roofers say X was the best or N was the best or A was the best. In reality you are focusing on the WRONG THING!

5 estimates? Why 5? Why would you do that to yourself? Normally if you are dealing with reputable companies you don't need more than 2 estimates. I advocate to people to always get at least two estimates and if the roofers are saying something very different or if the roofers are way way way off in price, get an equalizer, get a 3rd.  Obviously if you don't trust a roofer disqualify that roofer immediately.  I beliee you have now fallen into "Analysis Paralysis" which is what happens when you have too many opions.

But back to the topic, I said you are focusing on the wrong thing. Why did I say that? Because you can take the best shingle in the world and if installed wrong is compeltely garbage. i can take the worst shingle, known to fail, and if installed properly will last some ammount of time. So you should focus on the roofer, not the product. The roofer is more important and a good quality roofer will only want to install good quality product.

The roof is a system comprised of many components, not just the shingles. You have the water proofing underlayment such as ice shield, the water resistant underlayments such as felt. You have the shingles, the ventilation and the flashing details. All of these things add up to equal one roof. Neglect one and your roof is doomed to fail.

But the roof is more than just product it is detail, know how and heart. Heart? yes heart. It takes the utmost CARING the utmost DESIRE to want to install a good roof. It's hard work and easy to fall into the train of thought as to do what's easier, instead of what's faster.  Faster and easier seldom ever equals better. At the end of the day you ened a roofer that cares about your roof.

So what product is best? That's hard to say. Each manufacturer has multiple plants and it seems each plant puts out varying levels of quality. I will tell you in my area Atlast is known as a cheap commodity shingle. I have Tamko Heritage on my house but I stopped using it because I was having seal failue issues and at the time they offered no contractor certification program, but I hear they started up one. Ownes corning is a decent product backed by a great company. I don't install very many OC's though. I primarily install CertainTeed Landmark shingles and my feeling is that they are the best on the market in my area. I'm sure others will disagree with me.

But don't miss the point, the roofer is more important than the shingle.

I appreciate the fact that with homeowners like you who want to beat the insurance co out of deductibles, so then my rates and every other homeowners rates can also go up just to save you.....Thanks for NOTHING..[8o|]
?

Any roofer worth using should be able to do the roof with NO MONEY DOWN.

The only scenario I would ask for a deposit is on a crazy odd ball shingle that had to be special ordered.

?
The question was, Can it be done? The answer is yes. The real question is "Should" it be done? The answer is, no, not unless it is an emergency.   But also let's clarify winter, because we are having a pretty mild winter, so there's kinda not a problem this year so far. I'll refrence "below freezing" from this point forward.

As a certified and licensed roofing contractor, my reputation is on the line. I debate this topic quite often with other roofing contractors who seem to care more about profit than a job well done.  Well, I can tell you from past experience having been a professional roofer for 14 years as of the time of this posting, that the chance for failure increases exponentionally when installed below freezing.  It's better just not to risk it.

Personally I will not, unless absolutely necessary and the customer signs a disclaimer of limited liability, install a roof below freezing and really really want to install the roof at 40 or above. The shingles need to seal, and will not seal unless they warm to about 70 degrees F ambient temprature. This does not mean it needs to be 70 outside, because the shingles will warm from the sun.

So what can be done to install the roof below freezing? Well first, the roof should not be gun nailed below freezing. This is because the shingles become brittle and it's easier to "blow through" with your nails. It's also harder to regulate air pressure when it is cold, I speculate because of barometric pressures, but I am just guessing.  Therefore the roof should be hand nailed. This takes more time. Furthermore since the seal strips will not seal, they must be manually sealed with proper compatible adhesives. This will also take more time, and more material. I once spoke with a roofer in Alaska who builds tents around the houses he is working on and covers them with tarps and heats with propane heaters.  Now that takes real time!    The question is, are you prepared to pay for this extra time? Can you wait a few more weeks?

Very quick response time. I purchased big deal last evening and they were at my house by 3:30 pm today. It was very cold and I had 6 inches of snow in my yard. They started on the job immediately.
Very professional and had work completed within 45 minutes.

They did an excellent job. However, there was a leak that ruined the ceiling in the garage. They came immediately to see and photo the damage. The sheetrock team was there within the week. They not only repaired the damaged area, but painted the whole garage ceiling so that everything would match. Now there are no sign of damage. Great job.

Late at night during a recent rain we realized that we had a leak in our flat roof, right over the master bedroom. The next morning I contacted four of the top-rated vendors from Angies' List in our area. Two of them came out the next day, inspected the roof and gave quotes. They each had different approaches to solving the problem, and both seemed good. We chose
Princeton Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
as they really understood our needs, and could put us on their schedule right away. (There was more rain predicted for the coming weekend!)
The owner

and his crew arrived on-time the scheduled morning to get things started. They did everything as indicated, and a few more, including clearing a clogged downspout and making sure it drained again correctly. They cleaned up after the job and everything looks great.
Princeton Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
even pointed out they currently had an Angie's List coupon for repair work, and took that additional amount off our final bill.
We are ready for the rain and will definitely call them again for any roofing-related needs.

The installers arrived on time and completed work in a timely manner. After install was completed decorative grids on the inside of the windows were found to be uneven which required 3 of the windows to be reordered and replaced a second time. I obtained several estimates before deciding on

.
Princeton Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
was the highest priced but I went with them because I believed that the windows would be high quality and energy efficient. I am very disappointed. With the cold temps we have had recently I can feel a considerable amount of cold coming from the windows. I have ugly thermal curtains up which I was hoping I would be able to remove after installing energy efficient windows, this will never happen because these windows do not keep the cold out. After I complained about the cold coming off the windows I was told that the reason I have cold coming in is because I have a slab foundation and the cold is emanating from my foundation. Also disappointed with the trim around the outside of the windows. Pieces are overlapping, does not look professional in my opinion. I Paid way too much money to be having these types of quality issues.

will never replace any of my windows again. I also attempted to put up a public review on the

My primary concern was that parts of the lead boot around the stand pipes on the roof had been chewed away squirrels.
Princeton Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
repaired them by caulking the opening between the stand pipe and the existing lead boot with silicon, and then putting a new

of lead sheeting around the stand pipes. He also nailed down some shingles that had come loose, and nailed down some nail heads that were protruding. I was very pleased with the work.

From my first phone contact with the office I felt like an already valued customer, and it just kept getting better. I met with their estimator who was very considerate of my time. He went up on the roof, looked at the attic, discussed my need (which included an upcoming installation of solar panels),wrote me a bid and answered all of my questions. I received weekly phone updates about the status of my project and expected dates of installation. This roof was installed in winter months so it was difficult to find a window without predicted rain, but I was not in a big hurry and it happened. I had a moment of frustration with the timing, and without missing a beat, the office manager offered to send me a gift card to my favorite restaurant- how generous! The crew was prompt and very hard-working. They were courteous and very respectful if my propery. Everything was cleaned up completely every day. The roof looks fantastic! Upon completion, the owner of the company came to my home to view the project, answer questions and most of all to be sure I was thoroughly satisfied. I was able to tell him with absolutely no reservations that his company has the best customer service I have ever experienced, and I have done quite a few home imorivement projects. Everyone at

was professional, courteous and a pleasure to speak with. Mr.

We purchased an Angie's List deal. We contacted the company right after purchasing the deal and the company sounded as if they had sold too many deals and were busy. They took our name and number and told us they would call back. They never did. We contacted them again a couple months later and left a message. We never received a call back. We wasted $200 on an Angie's List deal and did not receive the services promised.
