Replaced engine in my work truck
delayed picking up on time because of oil leak, they said oil pan gasket.
finally picked truck up close to their quitting time on a thursday, after putting tools in truck they were gone, pulled out of parking space and saw puddle of oil under truck. drove truck home.
Here is what i found in addition to the oil leak after looking truck over:
Fan shroud was hanging under truck.
    Radiator bolts were missing.
    Air conditioning condenser bolts missing.
Called next morning(friday). told service lady(Diane Gipson), engine was leaking oil and requested that she look in parking lot where it was parked. told her i suspected a lemon engine and requested replacement. she told me "we dont do that", i told her that a new engine should not have 2 oil leaks and requested to talk to her boss(Carven Hunley). she told me he was not available, i asked to talk to Harry Partington, (gen mgr) and was told he was in a meeting, i then expressed my concern about the engine being a lemon and urgently requested that they call me when they become available.
Later in day (friday), after not getting a return call from anybody, i stopped payment on the check. (for your information, in my 56 years, this is the first and only time i ever stopped payment on a check.)
and so i then loaded up on oil and went to work.
no call on sat or sun.
no call on mon, tue, wed, thur.
thursday night on way home the turbo disintegrated and i had to have truck towed home.
    friday, still waiting on call.
    no call fri, sat, sun
monday, finally received a call from Carven, heres how it went:
    CH - Hello greg.
i noticed that you stopped payment on the check.
(please note that his concern was the check and not the oil leak!)
GR - yes i did Carven, i called a week ago friday with concerns and asked that you return my call. the truck had a oil leak when i picked it up and now the turbo has disintegrated and i had to have it towed home. i still think the engine is a lemon and i would like it if you would order another engine and i will get the truck towed back up there when you get the engine in.
CH - well we don't do that but the engine is under warranty and we will fix it.
GR - Carven, i don't want a lemon that has to be fixed all the time, this is my work truck and it needs to be dependable
CH - we will get it towed up here and look at it to see what's wrong.
    So they did.
and they said they found a leaky main seal, in addition to the turbo.
they replaced the turbo and the main seal.
when i went to pick it up i took it for a little drive and then let it set running for a bit to make sure it was not leaking.
    i wrote them another check.
in a few days i had to have both batteries and the starter replaced and noticed that a motor mount had the bolts twisted off, and that the truck had been backed into something and a brackett and hydraulic valve were damaged. also the hour meter wasn't working
so i took it back again.
they didn't repair the damage or fix the hour meter but did replace the motor mount.
now when i inspected the work the oil pan is caved in.
    i am pretty disgusted now
so back to work i go.
i soon notice that the engine has started using an excessive amount of oil and i have to add antifreeze regularly.
the engine starts missing and running bad,
i figure that parts from the turbo were left in the engine and has damaged the cylinders.
    i am really disgusted now
i start losing acceleration at critical times, like in the middle of intersections.
i am really pretty disgusted now
i park the truck until i can figure out what to do.
the warranty is still in effect so i take it back.
i explain the oil and antifreeze consumption, the acceleration problem and the engine missing and running bad.
Diane Gipson said they would check it and call me.
she called me and said that the radiator had a leak and had to be replaced before they could do anything else.
went to the shop and told her the radiator was not leaking when i left the truck that if they had damaged it then they should repair it. she showed me a photo of my truck with water under it.
i left and contacted bob swope about it.  he referred me to carl swope and i then left him a message. and played phone tag. finally i got him on phone and explained problems. after finally convincing him that i wasn't trying to get something for free. he finally agreed to personally look into my problems and take care of them.
needless to say, i was relieved to finally have found someone that cared.
so i waited a week or so and after not receiving a call that my truck was repaired, i stopped by to check on it.
Diane Gipson said that nothing had been done and that the radiator had a leak and had to be replaced before they could do anything else.
i asked her if carl swope had talked to her.
    she said no.
i left and called carl back and left a message for him to call.
after a few days i received a call from somebody on behalf of carl.
they said that the radiator had a leak and had to be replaced before they could do anything else.
i gave it up right there.
Swope was a good customer of mine, I am an electrician and they hired me on a regular basis.
I took my truck to them because i believed that they would do a good job in a fast turn around time.
I was assured that their mechanics were certified and did quality work.
I was under the impression that Jamie Hack was the best and highest certified mechanic around and that he was going to work on my truck. i'm pretty sure he didn't and that Tim Lewis is the guy that worked on my truck.
i sent a wrecker and brought my truck home. It had been approx 18mo since i first took it to them.
    i had the radiator tested.
the radiator was not and is still not leaking.
24 months passed and the 2yr unlimited mile warranty expired.
i got about 2 months and 10000 miles out of the truck.
it now sits in my garage, holding down the floor.
I inquire of my customers about Swope. I have found at least 18 who have had similar experiences.
    further notes:
    - Somewhere in all this mess Harry told me i should take my truck to the best mechanic in the area at Knox Ford.
     - I talked to Bill Swope(which, keep in mind is the best and nicest Swope i've found) and he tried to resolve the problem, but i'm convinced that nobody paid him any attention. I really like Bill and have tried to not bother him.
    - I also think that nobody paid attention to Bob Swope.
    - Carl disappointed me greatly. I was convinced that if I ever had to go to him that he would take care of any problem. I'm pretty sure that he trusts his underlings too much and that they have convinced him of things that are not right. However, Harry, Carven, Diane and Tim still work for him, Harry has even been promoted....
So he must approve of how they operate.....
    Make up your own mind.
i am now in the process of buying a new truck.
after doing some inquires on the internet, i get emails and phone calls from Bob Swope Ford.

    - Gregory R.
