    I called Robinwood based on Angie's list reviews and left a message. Joe promptly returned my call and put my mind at ease. He asked all the right questions about my kids and during our conversation, I felt comfortable that he understood and would be able to meet my geriatric dog's needs. The price he quoted was a good one. My travel plans changed and I ended up not having to leave town but am sure that Robinwood would have done a terrific job had I needed them.

    Since, I do pet therapy for free, I felt it was a bit much to charge. I'm not showing her for prize money or get any benefit. I am a professional and I'm asked to sign things for students. Should I start charging for my signature, too? I don't think so.

    I���m not a big ���review writer��� unless it���s a business or service that has exceeded all expectations. This is my third. It���s a long read but if you���re seriously curious about Dr. Heekin, it might be worth the read. I���d like this to sound professional for credibility but we���re talking about animals, which is emotional and from your heart.

     

    My Veterinarian passed away with cancer (God rest his soul) so when my cat was not acting right, I was at a loss. A girlfriend highly recommended Dr. Heekin due to her solving an ongoing skin issue with her dog, which is still going well for over a year now. With consideration my friend had seen two other Vets for this skin problem and it was still not under control until she went to Dr. Heekin, I decided to take my cat to her and made an appointment.   

     

    The exam:  Many Vets run a gazillion tests but Dr. Heekin, after palpating Marley���s stomach said, ���I���m moving right to x-rays���.  

     

    Fast Forward:  The x-ray results on my cat������  HORRIBLE blockage in his intestines. In the kindest manner, Dr. Heekin said, ���I know you don���t know me and we just met, but I���m going to have to operate on your kitty, or we are going to lose him���. I said, ���lets do it���! I fully expected her to find a rubber band or one of my hair ties to be the blockage but it was not.

     

    Dr. Heekin called me in the middle of surgery and through speaker phone, gave me an update. I could hear it in her voice -  this was going south.  There was a mass the size of a golf ball and was attached at the small and large intestine, not to mention, his pancreas and other vital organs were pulled into it. In a very professional and kindhearted manner, she let me know this was a very dicey situation, and she was not 100% she could remove it due to the size and it���s adherence to so many vital organs. The fact that it was at the junction of the small and large intestine added another huge issue. I could have pulled the plug, especially with not knowing what his quality of life would be but she impressed me so much, I said, ���lets move forward���.  I said, ���I have a lot of people praying for your skilled hand and for Marley���, and she said, ���Well tell them not to stop���.   

     

    Sitting on pins and needles for awhile, my phone rang - Dr. Heekin���s office. Did I want to answer it? My hand trembled as I accepted the call. She removed it! Her skilled hand, determination and experience came together, and she won!   Dr. Heekin ��� 1   Mass ��� 0!

     

    Two days later:  Marley was home with me! He���s eating, passing stool, stretching, scratching on his post and interacting wonderfully!

     

    Do stories always end like this when our pets are horribly inflicted with illnesses or even cancer? Not always. Sometimes a Veterinarian has their back against a wall because the situation is just too extreme, and they recommend not moving forward. We blame them but THIS is their profession, and they know more than us. Emotions are involved, and we lash out at them, when in actuality, they are doing the best for us and our loved animal.

     

    End Game:  If you want the best diagnosis, recommendations, knowledge and experience for your Family Member who is an animal, don���t shortchange yourself.  I just gave you two situations above involving Dr. Heekin ��� clearing up an annoying skin allergy/irritation for my friend���s dog for over a year now (who was consistently seen by two other Veterinarians) and the removal of a mass that I���m not sure many doctors could have done. I say this because Dr. Heekin showed me pictures of the surgery and the horrible, disgusting mass. I asked her if she had ever seen a mass like this before and she said ��� as a Veterinarian for 29 years, I have not!

     

    On a scale of 1 through 10, Dr. Heekin is an 11! Her number is:  859.581.8250, and she is located in Taylor Mill in the Remke Plaza.

    We dropped our dogs off on Thursday afternoon and picked them up by 10 on Saturday morning. We always schedule extra potty breaks and playtime for them. I always send their food in individual bags one for each meal, for each dog. When the staff was going over the bill, I noticed a remark about a health concern. They said since we weren't called, it wasn't serious but they would check their notes on their kennel. They came back with my boys travel bag and said the health issue was with the dog across the aisle. Inside the bag though, were two bags of food. I asked what time breakfast was, even though I had been told in the past that it was early. The staff member checked my contract to see how many food bags were brought in and compared to how many that were used. I had sent the correct number....they had not fed my dogs, they thought this morning. Just told me they were sorry. Both of my dogs came down with kennel cough after a previous stay, after not boarding with them for over two years, I went back. Unless the owner or manger personally gives me a call, I will probably not. The groomers did a nice job on their nails though.

    Have used the facility several times and have always found them attentive to our dog.  They stayed late on one trip so we could pick up our pet that day.  Our dog is always a little unsure of people but from the first time we went in he always goes right to Patty and the staff with his tail wagging.  I always leave feeling that he was in great hands!

    My dog is doing fine.  We got a new dog and his a year old now and I've had a dog for 15 yrs. so I've been going to him for quite a bit.  I like his personality.  You can always get in.  I can't remember ever call in and never get an appointment.  We had to have an older dog of mine put down and they handle it in a very caring and professional way.

    It was great.  Their place is fantastic.  It's clean and I was really happy with it.  There were a lot of people there whom you deal with and they're always very pleasant and professional.  They always act like they have plenty time for you.  The place is spotless.  They have different size of cages and suites and they take the dog out.  They give medication that the dog may have and it's just an excellent place.  Their price is reasonable.

    Dog was weighed and examined, blood work was done. Vet believed that some of the dogs symptoms maybe related to pain. Our dog is 12 years old and has arthritis. She was given a prescription for an nsaid. The vet called the next day with the results of the blood work. Most was with in normal limits, a little elevation in liver profile which we will follow up with on our next visit.

    Overall was a very good experience.

    I made the grooming appointment with Jennifer who was very professional on the phone.  Jennifer reminded me to bring in the medical records so they could insure that the pet was up to date on vaccines. 

    My maltipoo Lily had a cut on her nose area "before" going to the groomer and I was concerned about having her groomed.  I also provided my own ear cleaner because I wanted a certain brand used.

    Jennifer recommended a Maltese type cut but because of the cut on her face, we decided on a poodle type cut.  Lily loved the groomer!  Lily looked great when I picked her up....great bath, super cut, and one very happy, clean dog!  I will be going back!

    I recently put in a call to see what they have to say about Great Pyrenees.  I am researching the breed and checking on maintenance costs before making an adoption decision.

    It was pretty much all pros. We've been using them for 20 years. They are just really good. They are very personable. They actually make sure they know what's going on with each of the animals that you have and they actually care about what they're doing.
