Hospital Care reviews in Richmond

    Central Baptist Hospital
Overall my experience was good. I had awesome nurses in labor and delivery, they really helped me through every step of labor and the delivery. I went in on a Sunday night to be induced and the night nurse had already added a foam egg crate to the bed to make it more comfortable for the night. This typically isn't done because women don't generally spend a long time in the labor and delivery beds. The day nurses really helped me focus and work on my pushing which took over two hours. Once my baby was delivered she needed some extra care and the staff quickly got her taken care off.
The nurses let my husband go into the nursery and photograph our daughter's first bath while I was being transported to my room.
Whenever I pushed the call button someone responded in a very reasonable amount of time.
The temperpedic beds in Mother and Baby were awesome though we didn't get much sleep. I wish I had been warned about all of the hospital staff that would be in and out of the room. There was housekeeping, food service, the nurses, the nurse techs, the pediatrician, my OB. Everytime I tried to take a nap, a staff person would knock on the door.
The lactation consultants were very helpful in assisting me with breastfeeding. They get an A+.
The nurses on mother and baby were ok. My second night our baby was really fussy and a nurse suggested we put her down and let her self sooth. I wasn't very happy with that comment. The same nurse also forgot my pain meds during the night so my blood pressure spiked the next morning and I almost wasn't discharged.
The free massages on mother and baby were awesome.
The anesthesiologist who performed the epidural was excellent and I had no issues during the epidural or afterwards. The laborist who started the induction and the laborist who checked on me during the day when my OB couldn't were very nice and professional.
Food service was not what I was expecting. I had a call right after I delivered wanting to know if I wanted a tray for dinner as she was leaving for the night. I didn't have a choice and once the tray arrive it wasn't what I wanted. At least we had packed some granola bars and my husband eventually went and got me a hamburger from the cafeteria which tasted really good at that moment. I was expecting to have a menu in the room where I could order breakfast lunch and dinner when I wanted. Instead they called three times a day with limited choices. It was decent, the whole time I really wanted hamburgers not salads.
The only unusual aspect of my experience was the Lexington fire fighter who was training. He was observing a live birth in case he had to do one on a medical call.
