Home Remodeling reviews in Jeffersontown

Z Remodeling & Home Improvement of Louisville
I echo everything the other negative review says, and more! I was taken in by their positive ratings on BBB and houzz.com. These are a fraud. BBB and other review sites are easily manipulated. Please people, leave negative feedback where due to protect the public! I needed a General Contractor to complete a whole-house renovation that I had started but couldnt complete because of a job relocation. I wrote a Scope of Work and Terms for Bid (SOWTFB) outlining the scope and the bid requirements. I had two bids and several no-bids, and awarded a $72K contract to Jack S. of Z-Remodeling. Apparently, Jack had no intention of complying with the Terms for Bid. 1. His contract states per Scope of Work and Specifications, which can only refer to my document. Yet, he ignored the $27K of material allowances. At the 20 week mark, with the house at the drywall stage and ready to purchase materials that were governed by material allowances, I find out that he didnt figure in my allowances. Worse, he was apparently playing it by ear because he could not tell me what allowances he had planned. At this point, I had paid Jack nearly $60K, and, minus the material allowances, he owed ME money. Yet, he wanted another $4500 payment for the recent drywall. After a couple of weeks, he presented his material allowances which were $12K less than what I had stipulated and could not have given me what I asked for in the detailed Scope. He refused to negotiate a middle ground. 2. Jack then refused to pay the drywall sub, who threatened to put a lien on my house. (Yes, they can do that! Our laws are f####d up when it comes to consumer protection.) I had to pay the sub $4800 for an incomplete job and a big mess left behind. 3. The SOWTFB requested a binding completion schedule. Jacks contract specified about 12-14 weeks. As I stated above, we were only at the drywall stage (~50% complete) after 20 weeks! There was a 2-month period where only 1 day of work was done. Jack likes to take vacations with your money (4 times in 4 months), and then wait for another sucker to pay his ridiculously high up-front contract fee so he can do a little more on your project. 4. The SOWTFB specifies that, logically, all codes and regulations are to be followed. After I declared Breach of Contract in August, I learned that the rough-in plumbing was done without a permit! According to Z Remodelings plumber, Jack told him not to bother with a permit! The electrical rough-in had a permit, but many circuits did not work! These issues caused a lot of delay in getting other contractors to bid on finishing the work. It was December before I had three bids to finish, and the cheapest was more than the original $72K contract with Z Remodeling that I had already paid $62K towards! No contractors want to come in and clean up and take responsibility for someone elses mess. 5. My relationship with Jack started off well. But he quickly turned passive-aggressive. I can identify the turning point. Jack needs a lot of hand-holding, but gets nasty when you try to hold him accountable. 6. Jack has a fondness for saying that a proposed change is about the same money then sticking you with a change order fee after doing the work without anything in writing. This happened twice to the tune of about $3500. In retrospect, I should not have paid because this is an illegal practice. Even after I said no more changes without a written change order, he tried to pull this stunt one more time. 7. The Z Remodeling web site is even a fraud. It features family pictures of the son of the proprietor that are meant to manipulate your emotions. (Oh, what a nice young family. They must be good and honest.) In truth, that son only seems to be in charge of damage control and the propaganda machine. You will likely never see him. Also, be sure to ask if the pictures on their website are stock photos or their actual work. If the latter, ask Jack to prove it. Ha! I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Stay away from Z Remodeling.

    Boss Design Center
Boss Design did a total remodel of our Master bath. From the start, we felt confident and comfortable with their level of experience and expertise. They listened to our ideas and worked with us to accomplish a contemporary design which created a one-of-a-kind spa/shower that reminds us of an island resort each time we step in. The finish selections throughout are upscale, and the quality of workmanship is evident in every feature. We had fun working with Boss Design and are very happy with our new bath area!

    Designs In Stone
0 stars. Review the BBB complaint ID 12118307 for details and responses. Designs In Stone / Cardinal Kitchens (same company/owner) damaged my hardwood flooring, dented my new stainless refrigerator, and never finished caulking. They refused to pay for the full repair after they had me get a total of 6 contractors to look at it each with the same recommendation and all within the same ballpark total for repair. It took 6 months to finally get a (unsatisfactory) resolution. I ended up settling for half the repair costs just to be done with them and will just pay the remainder out of pocket.

    Bryan Turner Painting
I had an ongoing project since February, and I ended up calling somebody else. I would say do not choose that particular provider, because it is difficult to reach them, they do not respond to text messages or voice mails and when they are here, you get the service, but once they leave, you are off the radar, and they don't come back, and you basically come back. I finally sent them a text message that if they didn't respond by such and such date, I would go with someone else, and I got someone else, and they are working right now, and I really like what they are doing. Brian Turner was supposed to be working a contractor on a bathroom remodel, and they didn't do a good job with the tiling, and they didn't do a good job with painting. I just sent them a text saying that I have some of their tools still here and if they don't get back to me by the 1st of May, I will give it away. He had some personal problems but he didn't call me, I had to call his wife and find out that he had some problems but he wasn't professional enough to call me and tell me.

    Holdfast LLC
Brandon was very knowledgeable and a great communicator--has always been quick to respond. He was able to fit us in very quickly and came while we were both at work while sending us pictures and status updates throughout the whole process. We plan on using him to install a new backsplash, and hope to have him improve our master bath in the near future. We definitely recommend him and his work.

    Southern Kitchens Ltd Co
They were fine. We are just in the final stages of remodeling our kitchen and we got bids from 4 different cabinet companies, and they were one of those. We liked them quite well, but we chose another company we liked a little bit better. I have nothing negative at all to say about them. Their price was pretty comparable to everybody else's. They answered our calls and emails promptly. They were quite professional and they were right on time. I would have no reason not to at least give them a chance to bid on another job if I have some cabinetry to do.

    Nick's Remodeling Service
Everything went as planned. Nick is very knowledgeable about his craft. He completely demoed a bath, then he installed a tub/shower, vanity and toilet. He installed porcelain tiles around shower as well tiled the floor. He installed toilet and vanity in half bath. He painted bathroom along with hallway and living room. Hardwood flooring was laid throughout hallway and living room. Me and my wife are very satisfied with his work and prices. We will be using him in the future. I highly recommend  Nick, you want regret it. His quality of work and price cant be beat.

    Klempner Design and Construction LLC.
It was not done.  They didn't do the inspection or measurement and he has not gotten back to me at all.  He arrived without any paper and pencil and didn't bring his computer.  He was not very professional and not responsive.  a new review has been submitted 5/12/2014. see same for the total story

    M. Wade Tile

He talked about how busy they were and it would be after the Christmas holidays before he could get to it.  I got the feeling that he wasn't very interested in doing this small project.  Said he would call be after the holidays but he never called again.  I found someone else to do the work.
