Does a Painting Estimate Really Matter?

    Color Craft Painting LLC
Matt and his team are professional, courteous, and friendly. They arrived on time, finished on time, and cleaned everything up beautifully. Very efficient and the second time I have used him. There will be a third in the future when my next painting job is due!

    Five Star Painting of Louisville
I was very disappointed with the workmanship based on what I was told to expect. Debris was left in my yard, they borrowed my hose and didn't put it back, they moved my deck furniture and didn't put it back, let spilled paint in numerous places around my house, they didn't paint the front door and one on my windows at all and didn't do a good job on the gutters or garage trim. They also poured paint wash water in my back yard. Lastly, they broke one of my house flood light. Overall I was very disappointed in the workmanship but impressed with the proffessionalism in getting it corrected. I would think twice about using them again based on the workmanship.

    Nu Wood Works
Overall, they did a really good job of staining my deck. It had never been stained, so the owner insisted on 2 coats for good coverage. The only reason I could not give an "A" is because the contract stated they would tighten any loose screws and sand uneven surfaces- neither one which occurred. The price was good, so I would hire again and follow the work more closely.

    Louisville Handyman & Remodeling
Beautiful Work. The repairs looked better than the original. Louisville Handyman was great to work with. Professional, ontime, work was delivered as agreed and price was reasonable. Still hard to believe that they sent a crew on such short notice when the front door was smashed in and could not be locked.

    Nilest and Nilest
They had a total of three employees, it took two days to complete. They had to sand down a few areas that didn't pressure wash. They had to hand paint the spindles on the deck, and the deck themselves. The second coat was rolled on the first coat was hand painted. They did the work for what they quoted. They showed up at the right time with the right people. They cleaned up afterwards which was great. They offered to move the furniture back, however we didn't have them do that we still needed to paint it.

Hollowell Drywall Repair & Custom Painting

David was very professional and he and is crew did a good job. Work was started and completed timely.

Due to my good experience with David, I requested a quote for additional work I would like to get done.

Side note: This work was originally going to Tom Power Painting, but due to Tom Power's, attitude, lack of communication and lack of customer service on a previous job (see my review), I searched for a different painter and luckily found David Hollowell.

    Tom Power Painting

Overall very satisfied with Tim and his crew. There were some quality issues, but all of them were addressed as I pointed them out . The team was very professional always on time and followed up on everything. The pricing was very reasonable compared to the 2 other estimates I got from other Angieslist vendors (Fresh Colors and Painting the town), although Tom underestimated the time required to do an excellent job and I did pay for an additional 12 hours @ $40/hr for the extra drywall work necessary to get it looking right.

The reason for the F on responsiveness is because Tom Powers had problems with communication in the beginning causing a delay in the start. He also did not respond timely to phone calls, emails or text messages. When I communicated with Tim (team leader) we had no issues at all.

Last point. I had Tom Powers come out to give me some estimates on additional work (deck, more ceiling repair, painting kitchen and outside gutters). I told him I was going on vacation and that he can send me the estimates in two weeks (mid May). I never received the estimates. I have called him and left messages 3 times over the last 2 weeks and not one has been returned. I have called at least 5 other times with no message left, different times of the day and only get the voice mail. I have no other phone numbers. I don't know why he or anybody else has not called back. I am searching for someone else to do the other work and hope all is OK with him and his people.

This is an update on the last point. I emailed Tom one last time to try and get someone to come out and look at the drywall work in the living room, because there were cracks at the seams, where his team put in a number of screws, did the mudding and painting. He finally responded, which was the 1st communication I received in the 6 weeks after the job was completed. I have copied his words in reference to the lack of response:

    and quot;Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, I've taken two vacations in the past six weeks. They were a little untimely to say the least, and I've been completely swamped with calls and work. I've had to let many jobs go because there were more calls than I could return. I'm sorry I couldn't handle your request.and quot;

Obviously my additional work he was going to send me estimates on were one of the jobs he had to let go.

Also, Tom and/or his crew felt that I was and quot;particularand quot; and and quot;difficultand quot; to work for. I guess that doing the job right and to the customer specifications is considered and quot;particularand quot;.

I used the same painter, Wheatley Painting, over the last 30 years until he retired. Maybe he spoiled me by his perfection in his work and I have come to expect that from other contractors.

So based on Tom Power's attitude and his lack of communication alone, I will not use him again nor recommend him to anyone else.

    Briteway Painting
We used Briteway Painting in the past so we knew exactly who to call when it was time to update the painting in the interior of our home this month. This service always arrives on time, they are friendly, professional and are very competitive with costs. The detail of their painting is perfect and their clean up is immaculate. My spouse and I were undecided on paint color selections and Briteway Painting even assisted us with recommending which color paint would look best in our home and we're so glad we followed their advice! We are extremely pleased with Briteway Painting and would highly recommend them for any small, medium or large painting need!

    Nilest and Nilest
Our 1970s house is brick and cedar siding and was in need of restoration and repair. Mr. Nilest recommended a carpenter who does his repairs and we were very pleased. We had to get on their paint schedule which was not a problem for us. They were very professional; showed up when they said they would; brought all the man power and tools they needed. One thing I noted is they always brought their lunch. We live out in the country so travel time to eat out would have taken over an hour. They power washed, scraped and caulked. They seemed to have a system that worked well because at the end of the day they already knew what they were going to try to do the next day. It took a week to paint and part of that week it rained. On the rainy days they painted areas that were under roof, ie. under the porch roof and under the deck ceiling and the siding under the raised deck. Not only did they paint the siding, window and door frames, but also the trim around the skylights and all the vents on the roof. They also did extra things like door handles, light fixtures and the railing down the hill to the driveway. We plan on having them refurbish all our decks and railings next spring.
