Countertop Installation reviews in Hebron

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • Sent 3 emails to Stone Design via angie's list detailing what needed to be done and attached a diagram with the dimensions of the island. Received no response. Contacted them on their website via email with all the details and again, no response. Finally called them. They said their email address wasn't working and they were in the process of changing their website and gave me another email address to use. Sent them the same info again and they responded this time. They asked me to take pics of the current countertop so they could see the color. I have a 5s phone that doesn't take great pics so I asked them to check the internet which shows numerous pictures of the quartz color (it used be a very popular color 8 yrs ago). Waited, and again, no response. Sent them a follow-up email, reminding them that I would like to have this job completed asap. Again, no response. Sent them another email asking them if they were at all interested in the job, Again, no response. I have given up.

  • Our experience with owner Charles Schneider and his company Arco-Iris Granite, LLC has absolutely been the WORST experience of our lives. We have hired many companies to do various jobs around our home from roofing and siding, to plumbing, and even an electrician - and never had any problems. In 2012 we hired Arco Iris to install granite in our kitchen. When Mr. Schneider was seeking to earn our business, he was polite, answered all of our questions and said "yes" to all of our requests, so we hired him. It was only after the installation began that we realized his politeness was really just the carefully practiced disguise of a snake oil salesman - and that him saying "yes" to our requests did not actually mean he intended to meet our requests. For example, he promised to properly support our under-mounted sink with brackets, sand smooth the underside of the granite on our kitchen bar and that the seams in our granite would be "invisible" - none of this turned out to be true. What was worse, there were glaring defects in workmanship such as the countertops not fully covering our cabinets and the granite backsplashes not fully covering the new countertops. During the installation, we immediately called Mr. Schneider as we saw these problems arising - but he refused to return our calls. Then, when his workers reported they were "finished" and we said we were not happy with the work, they told us there was nothing they could do - that we would have to "talk to Charles". At that point, we informed them we would not be paying them the other half of the contract amount until the work was completed as promised and to our satisfaction - so they left. This prompted a surprise visit to our home by Mr. Schneider at 9pm that same night. He stormed into our house, agitated from the moment we opened the door to him, took one look at the work his men had done in our kitchen, and then proceed to yell and scream at us and demand we pay him for his "perfect job" or else he would file a lien against our home. It was completely appalling how unprofessional this Jekyll and Hyde became when there was a problem with his company's work. To make a long story short, he did file a lien against our home, we filed a lawsuit against him (learned then that he has been involved in MANY lawsuits against him and his company) and after three years this past July, 2015 we finally got all of his crappy work replaced in our kitchen at the expense of Arco-Iris Granite. Take our advice, save yourself the years of frustration and attorney's fees - do not hire Arco-Iris to install granite for you, and do not hire its owner, Mr. Charles Schneider, for ANY reason!

  • I REALLY like the granite they installed (they call it Splendor though I haven't found it anywhere else, at least not named that). It has a lot of movement in its grain, and several specks of shine which give it a natural brilliance. Stone Statements has a great selection of granite slabs, a lot of which you won't find anywhere else. They also carry their own granite which makes it convenient because you don't have to go somewhere else to make your selection. They are also the only fabricator that I found who was willing to do the plumbing work themselves (other fabricators refuse to do the work since they don't have plumbing expertise).

Unfortunately, their measurement, fabrication and installation services leave a LOT to be desired. In my case, the edges of the countertop overhang don't line up properly with the cabinets underneath, installation of the new sink introduced a drip in the plumbing, and in a couple of places they had to shim between the countertops and cabinets underneath but left it looking very unprofessional. Their defense (and my rebuttal) is:

    1. edges of countertop overhang issue: no defense (they came back out to try to remedy the situation, but weren't able to make any difference. A badly cut granite is a badly cut granite, and no amount of finagling is going to change that unless they redo it.

    2. plumbing issue: they claim that what they do with the plumbing is a non-intrusive procedure and therefore cannot have been responsible for the leak. Besides the fact that this logic is lopsided, I also had a home inspection and full plumbing inspection done on the house when I moved in recently which turned up nothing so there is no evidence that this was a preexisting condition. Their technician hadn't observed any leak either. (another note, their technician had left without opening the faucet that controls the dishwasher - after a week of tinkering and back and forth communication with Stone, I discovered the issue, but this shouldn't have occurred in the first place).

    3. shim under countertops issue: they are claiming that this is not their responsibility and that I need to separately contract with a carpenter to get this covered with trim. I will post some pictures of this problem when I get my digital camera working, anyone can reasonably see that no reputable contractor would leave with an end product that looks so shabby.

To date, I haven't had luck getting them to own up to and fix these issues. The owners don't even have the courtesy to discuss my concerns with a phone call. Bottom line, they have refused to do anything about these issues. In paying a higher price for the work (compared with other fabricators/installers) I expected superior service, but didn't get it. My advice to would-be buyers from Stone Statements - DON'T.

  • Picking out the granite and kitchen sink were relatively painless but things took a turn for the worse when the granite was installed and we noticed a 1/4 inch gap between the wall and the countertop where it was pieced together. I was told the wall wasn't straight but the two installed slabs sit side by side and one piece is directly up against the wall while the other piece is 1/4 inch away from the wall and let me say again, they sit side by side! It looks terrible. The plumber also broke the garbage disposal when he was removing it to install the sink, so we had to pay to have another one installed. This was reported right away but I didn't hear from the company. I called again about a couple weeks later only to have the salesperson tell me he didn't know why the manager didn't get back to me but that he'd find out what happened and get back to me the following week. Another two weeks went by so I called again and was told that salesperson was no longer with the company so I recited the problems to another person all over again. Another few days went by and this time someone did return my call. However she was very rude, insisted our original disposal was installed incorrectly which is why it broke when it was being removed, and was adamant the wall was crooked (without ever seeing it). I have never been spoken to so rudely by someone in customer service. It was obvious she didn't care if I was satisfied and she didn't care to be helpful. Now I'm left with countertops people comment on, only not for their beauty but for the gap. And I had to buy a garbage disposal I never wanted or needed because my original one was fine. This has been a terrible experience and I will never recommend this company to anyone, ever.
