Decks reviews in Crestwood

    K & L Home Improvements LLC
To start out, I should point out that I have built a number of decks in my life; and have lived in California, Colorado, Florida, and here in Kentucky. I currently work in commercial construction, but know both residential and commercial building codes. I typically do all the work around my house; everything from fixing plumbing issues to rewiring electrical, and everything in between. I dont like to hire contractors because they dont call you back, disappear after payment, and generally dont do the work to my standards. I will not, however, get up on the backside of our deck and move 6x6x20 beams to support a roof 35' in the air. So I went through the process of hiring someone I felt was qualified. Since I have the experience, I know how much a project of this magnitude should cost, and how long it should take. I called about 20 contractors around Louisville to get quotes for the work, and besides not getting calls back from a lot of contractors, or bids obviously too low or way too high, I lucked out and got a referral to K&L Home Improvement to build the deck. I found pictures of their work on Facebook, and looked at their current and previous projects to see what they can do, and the quality of their finished product. I then called Keevin Thomas, and had him come to the house and explained what I wanted him to do. I should point out I didnt tell him my background, and didnt tell him how to do the job. I only told him what I wanted it to look like. The same thing I told 20 other estimators/contractors before him. He definitely knew all the code requirements, and pointed out code compliance issues he would correct when he rebuilt the existing deck (my deck lacked joist hangers, stringers were undersized in one area) and issues he would solve when expanding the roof. He also came back for a second visit with his roofer/framer because he wanted to make sure he captured everything in his estimate before giving me a final quote. Trust me, this is a BIG plus, because I dont want to find out half way through the work that you forgot to include gutters, or vinyl siding, or didnt realize the roof trusses would have to be replaced and now my cost is going up to cover your mistake. He knew exactly what had to be done, and exactly how to do it. I received his quote, and while it wasnt the cheapest, it was one of the more comprehensive and detailed estimates, explaining exactly what they would do, and how it would be accomplished. I accepted his quote, and he was able to get his guys to my house the following week to start the work, well exceeding my expectations in a busy construction market. What can I say about the workers; its COLD outside, but they still pulled off the existing deck and roof, efficiently built the new structure, sealed it up, and completed the work in about two weeks, just like I expected. The other thing I expected, and got, was a call or visit from Keevin each day to make sure everything was proceeding as expected. He walked me through the process of what his guys were going to be focusing on that day, asked if there was anything I needed/if I had any concerns, and brought any issues to my attention (like the shingles were a difficult match because of previous work on the roof in that area) I expect a good contractor to talk to and explain his plan before proceeding, even though they are the experts. At one point, we were having the roof torn off to replace, and I saw there was a major storm coming in a few days on the news. He had a plan in place to cover the house with a tarp days before, just in case, and promised the work would be completed before the rainstorm. He did, in fact, meet every promise he made on the project, including this one, and the roof was ready for a heavy downpour. The work went off without a hitch, and I couldnt be happier with the result. Im glad I met Keevin, and would call him again if we needed more work done on the house now or in the future. Its nice to know there is a reputable, honorable contractor doing work in Louisville. I cant say enough good things about the overall experience and the results. If youve hired contractors before, you know the stress involved with having someone tear up part of your existing home. Everything is finished and exceeds even MY expectations.

Chad and his team were great to work with. Chad met with us and listened to our design ideas and provided feedback on our thoughts. When his team arrived to do the job they were on time and very courteous. The crews worked hard to make sure the project was done as planned and discussed the steps each way to ensure it was done just as I had hoped it would. Jessie and Evan stood out and were very professional and treated the job as if they were building a patio at their own home. I have already referred Paradigm Concrete Design to several friends and family.

The provider didn't do anything because the provider never showed up to an appointment he scheduled. After asking why nobody ever showed up, he never replied either by email or by phone, both of which were provided to him. How can I trust a company to do hundreds if not thousands of dollars of work if I can't trust them to show up to appointments they scheduled? Can't trust with a little, certainly not going to trust with a lot.

Dave arrived on time and began working on the deck.  Not only did he tear down the deck but also took all the debris with him.  Job took about 4.5 hours.  He did discover that additional wood would be needed for the job due to more extensive wood rot.  He secured the additional supplies and still finished the job on time as promised.  The quoted price did go up however even with the increase, the price was within our range and the finished product was well constructed.

Gil did an outstanding job. He is creative, has life long experience and knowledge. He made suggestions to improve our initial ideas, listened to our vision and made it a reality. He gives great attention to detail, and takes pride in the project being compliant, durable, and aesthetically pleasing. He and his crew were friendly, and kept the worksite clean and neat. He used cedar due to the stability and durability which raised the cost, but we felt it was worth it. We are very pleased with the results.

    Nu Wood Works
Mark and his crew, including Tony, are true professionals.  Mark seems to approach decks like an artist might approach a canvas.  He was patient with me, waiting until September to start the job, according to my schedule.  He talked in detail about the different stain options.  We initially went with a translucent stain hoping to keep the natural wood grains visible, but it was clear that no translucent stain would work with old and new boards while achieving a uniform look.  Mark provided samples, both pictures and stain on wood, of different colors.  He explained about his past experiences with the product.  His crew did not rush.  Due to rain, it took Mark's crew a couple days longer than originally anticipated, but they showed no grief about it, though I knew it was costing him money for them not to work.  In the end, the deck looks better than I had imagined it could.  It's really stunning.  There was less than $100 in expenses beyond the original quote, purely for the materials of replacement boards and screws.  I felt the price was very fair, not the most inexpensive quote I received, but one reflective of the labor and materials involved.  I could not be more pleased with my experience.  It's clear Mark wants his customers to be happy.

    FITZSIMMONS AWNINGS
This was the second awning that Fitzsimmons has made for us. We did not hesitate to call them for this most recent awning. The two awnings are very close together and no one would know which awning was installed first. The fabric durability is exceptional. John is very professional. He remembered our first install and how long it had been. Call them...you will not be disappointed!

    Diegos Landscaping and Masonry
Christino and his crew were very hard working, efficient, and courteous. They worked long days to get the job job as promised.. Christino made suggestions about other ways to do the brick outline after my husband voiced concerns about the brick overpowering the flagstone look. Christino offered to cut each brick on a diagonal twice so that the outline was 1/3 the size of the brick. Even though it meant a lot more time and labor-he did not add to the quote. The river rock they placed around the walkways looks great as well. The project turned out beautiful. The crew did an awesome job cleaning up after they were done-they power washed the entire driveway.

    Doiron Professional Remodeling
Received estimates for a deck remodel and to finish an unfinished storage room upstairs in the house. We decided we really liked the company, but we were not ready to invest the money in either project at this time. We took quotes from two other vendors, and Doiron was the most expensive, but they were also the most professional and had the best record. When we decide to invest in either project, we will be calling them back.
