    Swank, Dr. Michael L.
After dealing with back issues for several months, I was finally diagnosed with needing a total hip replacement. I started searching for a surgeon. I went to the local orthopedic practice...too busy, too long of a wait and way to anxious to do my surgery! I asked friends for recommendations and several people suggested a surgeon that works out of Good Samaritan. I made an appointment and there was no connection with the surgeon. His assistant went through everything with me, but the surgeon was in the room for all of 5 minutes. He made eye contact for about 20 seconds and out the room he went, I told the assistant that I was disappointed with his behavior. I went ahead and made a surgery date(since he was so highy recommended) but knew I had to continue to search. The internet brought me to Dr. Michael Swank. He and those that he works closely with were awesome. Gave me lots of time, answered all of my questions and seemed totally interested in helping me. He only wanted me to stay in the hospital for one night if there were no complications. He also did not want me to do physical therapy. His method is to walk for 5 minutes every hour that you are awake as soon as surgery is over, It worked! I am doing great without any physical therapy. I would recommend anyone needinga hip replacement to check him out. He works out of Christ Hospital. I received a get well card from my nurses. Dr. Swank also signed the card with a and quot;Hip hip Hoorayand quot;. Great sense of humor also!!

Cincinnati Sports Medicine & Ortho Ctr
We are really impressed with them. They are just very thorough; I have always been pleased with them. I am sort of new at the therapy part, but I am still impressed. They give me a printout every time of all the exercises that we went through without me asking for it. So that I know exactly what I am supposed to be doing in between the visits, and I like that; they think of that for me. Dr. Siegel is just fantastic. I don't know how many things that I can talk about that he is good at. With my daughter's surgeries; it was just beautiful, and everything worked just fine. But still I haven't seen my new orthopedic guy over there enough to really tell a whole lot; it was pleasant. But Dr. Siegel is head and shoulders above anybody else that I have ever dealt with. I don't know so much about the effectiveness of treatment; it worked for my daughter, there were no complications, and everything was fantastic. It is working so far for me, but I am in the middle of the therapy, so I don't know. This is the thing that could be fixed more definitively and faster with surgery. The thing that I do like is that in this environment of trying to take care of our own healthcare and manage it and the expense and all of the other stuff; they are treating it conservatively first knowing the complications and the costs involved. The first thing a lot of surgeons think of doing is cutting. Cincinnati Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center is making an effort not to go that route, because they know that overall that's going to be more expensive and more debilitating for me in the short term. So we can fix it without surgery. I like a surgeon who doesn't want to necessarily see everything as a cutting opportunity. At the moment, my insurance does not cover the physical therapy part. I have been to a lot of places where if my insurance doesn't cover what they charge, it is just tough luck. But here if my insurance doesn't cover the physical therapy; they modify the expense so it is fair for everybody.

The front sraff (at desk) are not very friendly, get the impression that they don't like their jobs. We only had a short wait before going to the back, back staff was friendlier, mor informative and helpful. Nurse Practicioner for MD was very nice. compassionate and professional.

    John J Larkin MD
Although this report is about Dr. John J. Larkin, he has a right hand man named Avery Kondik. I believe Avery is a PA. I understand he teaches at one of the hospitals or universities. Avery, like Dr. Larkin, is also very knowledgeable and personable. You cant miss him - he is the tall guy and allows Dr. Larkin to be in two places at once. I dont know the future date, but I will probably have to have my left knee replaced some time in the future. Dr. Larkin is the Dr. I will select. Additionally, Dr. Larkin has always been very good to answer questions, no matter how simple or involved.

    Holladay, Dr. Bruce R.
I trusted Dr. Holladay, as he had done the knee replacement surgery on one knee about 2 years ago. So, I went back to him to get a surgery done on the other knee. He is a good doctor and it's hard to pin down on him. He is on the run all the time and is a busy man. His orthopedic surgeries are very popular and he specializes in sports medicine too. However, I had a good experience. It took me 3 months to get an appointment to get a surgery scheduled. I went on the 18th of September and had a surgery on the 28th of December. He is a young guy and if you don't grab him to talk about what you want to ask, then he gets in and out quickly. That's the way he is and if need be, then I would go to him in the future too.

    Busam, Dr. Matthew
My teenage son injured his knee while running in phys-ed class. He was experiencing pain, and his mobility was drastically reduced. We called the office, and an appointment was scheduled the very same day (just happened to be my son's birthday). The knee was examined and x-rays were taken. My son was advised on how to treat the knee until the inflamation went down. He was given a referral to have an MRI to look closer at the injury. He was given a plan of treatment which included anti-imflamatoy medications, ice/heat for the pain, and allowing the knee to rest during the several days following the injury. After the MRI results came back, Dr. Busam followed up with a treatment plan which included orthotics for his shoes, and physical therapy.

He is very professional and his staff is excellent. I am very happy. His bedside manner is really good. He is like any doctor, I pin him down when I have him in the corner. He is hyper and always moving around. He answers my questions and he is a good doctor. It is a little difficult to get an appointment.
