    In April of 2011, I was researching broadband services and was particularly interested in MIFI services. I had documented that costs for several companies and had narrowed the list to 3 carriers, Verizon being one of the carriers. I decided to go the store to view the broadband harware. After visiting the other 2 stores, I visited Verizon last. I explained what I was doing and what I wanted. I even had the comparison paperwork with me.

    Also, I had questions to the Verizon staff as to why the cost in the store was greater than the cost on the Verizon internet site. I was told that the lower cost was an internet special. I explained that I was debating on the 3 carriers but if I chose Verizon, I would not purchase in the store because I was not going to pay a higher price in the store than what was offered online. After a few minutes, 2 of the sales people told me that they could probably give me a discount depending my employer. After reviewing the computer data, I was told that I was eligible for the discount. After consideration of the positive equipment product reviews and the discounted cost, I decided to sign the contract.

    On June 22, 2011, I received a letter from Verizon dated June 20, 2011, stating that I was not eligible for the discount and the discount was being revoked. I called the customer service number on the letter and was on hold 22 minutes before someone answered the phone. I inquired about the letter. I was told that Verizon only has a contract with my employer for voice services not broadband services. I was told that the discount would not be extended to me. I explained to them that I didn't ask for a discount but was offered a discount & that I am fulfilling my part of the contract for the services I agreed & that Verizon should uphold their end of the contract. After almost an hour of being on hold again and again, I was told that I had to stay with the service or be charged an early termination fee.

    I decided to terminate the service. By my calculations, I could sell the MIFI equipment for an amount to cover the cost of the contract fee. However, it is also important to note that I requested that the manager of the person with whom I was speaking on phone have their manager contact me which the manager returned from vacation. I was told that no one in the call centers have voicemail. I found that odd for a telecommunications company. So far it's been 10 days and I have not received a call from that customer service manager. Also, I called the Florence, KY, store and spoke with manager telling him that I'd like to discuss a matter regarding service that I received at the store. He told me that he was really busy with some customers in the store & asked if he could return my call. Again, that was 10 days ago and I still have not received a call from the local store either. At least the company seems to be consistent accross the board.

    So in essence. I was offered a contract at a discount price, then that price was recinded 2 months later. Verizon changed the monthly cost of the broadband services billed to me, however, Verizon refused to cancel my contract at 0 charge & refused to continue the discount that offered to me to get me to buy the equipment and sign a contract in the store. This looks a lot like fraud, and at the very least unfair business practices.

    I am filing a complaint with Attorney General of KY, the FCC, and the BBB.

    Initially, I was satisfied with the service when they were Cingular. Since then, I have found ATand T to be less reliable and have several drop calls.
