  • I have been to a handful of psychiatrists in my adult life and, sadly, most of them had an intimidating God-like mentality. Many of them diagnosed me in minutes, handed me a script  and showed me the door. If I questioned them or their diagnosis I was reprimanded. After these experiences I concluded that psychiatrists were the real ones in need of treatment. Then, along came Dr.Gale. It was so refreshing to be treated by him. He takes all the time needed to diagnosis, talk to me, listen to me and empower to me to make the decisions that I feel are right for me. He welcomes questions and concerns. VERY empowering! I feel that when I am not doing well he is frustrated and upset for me and I feel that when I am doing well he is genuinely happy for me. I truly feel like he is on MY team. He's not in this profession for the money, he is in it first to help people. Dr. Gale always has a gentle nature about him and at the same time a true confidence in his diagnosis and treatment plan.  I have gone to him for years and am living a very happy life. When I met him, this was not the case at all. I am living a truly healthy life thanks to him. My only wish? My only wish is that ALL other psychiatrists acted like he does.

  • I will never use that hospital again. The care there was extremely scary. I think that the care that I received there was poor. Not a place to go if you need psychiatric care. The doctor there is just a horrible doctor. You have to pretend that everything that he said was right or you are never getting on the day unless you went to court. You have to treat him like he was the God of psychiatrist.

  • My son used Aring Neurology for 17 years and worked closely with their physicians. He is an epileptic and has now become disabled due to his epilepsy. In July, 2011, he was hospitalized at University Hospital due to uncontrolled seizures. Our experience at the hospital was very pleasant. Every department of the hospital we worked with did an outstanding job-from the nursing staff, physicians, and administration. Because his situation was complicated, they did all they could to help since he was unable to cognitively make decisions that were in his best interest. They kept the family informed on every level. They were professional yet warm and friendly.
Since he had been unemployed due to his epilepsy for 2.5 years at that point, he did not have good health coverage. We knew the bill would be high and found out in February 2012 that he did not qualify for Medicaid. During this process, I kept UC Physicians billing department updated on the Medicaid process and called them as soon as I found out he would not be covered with the hope that we could work out a deeply discounted bill for self-pay purposes. Since that time, I have made over 6 calls to settle his account and have not spoken to the same person twice. They told me that he did qualify for a discount but required specific documentation.
I sent them all the documentation and called back several times only to be told that it was not in his file. Each call, I asked if my documentation could be sent to the representative's attention and was told that I could not. They said that documentation was sent to a different department and it took 4 weeks or more for the information to get scanned and filed in his account once they received it. The representatives said they did not have the authority to take responsibility for individual accounts and that I had to talk to whoever answered the call each time I phoned. After five months, they sent a letter saying that he was denied a discount due to having too much income during the time of his hospitalization-the income was his exwife's and not his. I called back and explained the circumstances and was told to send in a and quot;letter of circumstancesand quot; - which I had already sent in twice over the past seven months. Once again, for the third time, I emailed it.
in early October, I made another call and asked to speak to a supervisior. I expressed my frustration that no one from UC had contacted me. She confirmed my record of multiple phone calls, apologized and at my request agreed to have a supervisor contact me. To date, I have not been contacted.
The setup for their billing department is the worst I have ever experienced. My son is disabled and I am the one trying to settle his accounts. The truth is, he could refuse to pay this bill and their is nothing they can do since he is legally disabled. However, that is not who we are and are trying to do the right thing, but they have yet to contact me. Their customer service representatives are very nice and helpful within the scope of their ability, but beyond that there hands are tied. From my perspective, the University of Cincinnati billing department does not have the structure, leadership or management expertise to follow through with their own accounts.
If you know ahead of time, that you will use University Hospital, set up your payment plan ahead of time so you will not have to deal with their billing department. If you must contact their billing department, document all your conversations.

  • I got to the doctor's office about 9:20am for my 9:45 appointment for the 2nd opinion review.  I was in the exam room at 9:330 and Dr Skidmore came in to see me about 9:40 - 5 minutes BEFORE my appointment! Dr Skedmore advised against surgery at this point as I have been making improvements andmy pain was going down.

I am pleased for this 2nd opinion from a neuro surgeon as the ortho surgeon wanted to perform the surgery as soon as possible.  I have another appointment with Dr Skidmore in 4 weeks. If in pain or if pain gets worse - he said he will do the surgery, but once again, he did not want to "jump" into the surgery at this point.

Very good discussion with the doctor.  I felt he would answer all my questions and I did not feel rushed to be able to talk to him as I had many questions.   I highly recommend Dr Skidmore.

  • The office waiting room was a nightmare. On my last visit, I finally got up and left without seeing the doctor. The waiting room was very small and crowded. There were lots of ill-behaved children with parents doing nothing to control them. There were people loudly talking on cell phones. Lots of people were ill-mannered and dirty, often bringing in their whole family. The TV was blaring Judge Judy. There was more stress in the waiting room than I could bear. Dr. B was often running late. She would pull in patients for meds consultation before people who had been waiting. On one visit, she spent the entire time with me talking about how bad healthcare insurance was and her problems. I felt like she should be paying me instead of her charging me. Overall, she mostly doled out drugs. The only reason I continued with her for so long was that I was seeing a counselor at her office that I really liked. Once this person retired and with the condition of the waiting room, I decided to look for treatment elsewhere. Waiting in her office actually made my condition worse.

  • He is really, really intelligent with what he does. He is not going to load you up with a lot of medication. He prefers to try as many other things first before he has to give medication. Sometimes you may have to wait a while before getting in. However he always listens to me and is very compassionate. I've had nothing but good experiences with him.

  • Excellent! I went to Dr Skidmore because I had several very high recommendations for him, all of which proved to be accurate. I got an initial appointment with Dr. Skidmore in less than 2 weeks time, and the surgery was scheduled less than a month out. I had all the Time I needed to discuss every concern and question I had about my situation and the surgery. The followup while I was in the hospital and after discharge was excellent. I don't want to need back surgery again, but if I do I'll go back to Dr Skidmore. Price quoted reflects costs not covered by insurance.
