Because we have large dogs we chose a natural water based finish and we are very pleased with how it looks.  Vince even came out to add the base moulding to the center island for us.  He is very knowledgeable and very prompt.  I highly recommend Vince and will use him again. He has given us a quote to add hardwood to the family room and we will definitely have him do the job if we decide to go with hardwood there. The boards he replaced in the bathroom are a perfect match by the way.

The job could not have gone better.  My expectations were exceeded every step of the way. I have been an Angie's list member for a couple of years and have used the service to do a couple of large projects on the exterior and interior of my home.  I had looked at doing these two bathrooms a couple of years ago with a Super Service Award Winner who provided me an estimate.  I was pleased with the providers estimate and consulting skills but had sticker shock and decided to do my exterior projects first that year.  I spent a lot more money on the exterior projects but felt I was getting more done for the dollars spent at that time.  That provider was Sawdust Therapy.  I was so pleased with Sawdust Therapy I wanted them to do the bathrooms.  I contacted them and they were booked solid for months in advance.  I was willing to wait and did so for a number of months but I had a personal health issue come up that required me to move up my time line to get the job done.  Sawdust Therapy's owner consulted with me and I had to look at different vendors.
I contacted again the original Plumbing/Remodel contractor from a couple years ago and paid $90.00 for an estimate. They sent a great employee out to do all the preliminary measurement and consulting of both baths. I  was sure that they would most likely get the business and I did feel very confident with them from my original contact.
Due diligence, thank goodness, made me want to get another estimate.  I found Jim Carver and Sons on Angie's List and read all the reviews.  I thought frankly that they could do a great job but would be way out of my price range.  I spoke with Dave Carver by phone about the project and the first meeting was at his office.  Dave asked me to bring some basic measurements and a couple pictures of the spaces.  At the appointment I got a good overview of the company and their showroom.  Frankly my heart sank a little as I looked around the showroom and potential products.  I just knew that I probably would not be able to afford what I was seeing.  Dave asked a lot of questions and then asked if he could make a visit to my home.  I set that appointment up but told my wife we were probably going to love the ideas but they were probably out of our league.  Dave spent about an hour in our home taking measurements, more pictures and more questions. We set another appointment at his office about one week later to review the estimate and suggested materials that might be used.  During this time I heard back from the first vendor and they had a phone conversation with me going over their estimate and some solutions.  I requested that the information we had talked about be sent to me in writing and I did get an email a couple of days later.  No problems at this point with this vendor although I did expect a bit more detailed written document in light of a quote that was in the $30,000.00 range and I had paid up front $90.00 for the estimate. At my appointment with Carver I received a very detailed line item quote for both bathrooms including time line for both jobs, labor, fixture pricing etc.  Dave was also very upfront about fixture costs for plumbing and lighting.  One of his vendors was Grohe, a German Company, that he liked to use for plumbing fixtures due to quality and reliability.  He indicated on the fixtures I could select another vendor from Home Depot as well as the lighting fixtures.  He indicated I might save a fair amount of money.  After reviewing the quote for a couple days I went back and made some selections for tile, doors etc.  I did my own research on plumbing and light fixture vendors outside of what Dave suggested and found that yes I could save a fair amount of money I was not really comparing apples to apples  I moved forward with all the selections and frankly left thinking his quote would be on the low end $4,000 more than the other vendor.  I was wrong.  The quote came back about $1,5000-1,800.00 higher.  At this point I knew just from the follow up, detail of the quote, the contract itself and the drawings/pictures of what the finished product might looked like that I needed to go with Carver and Son's.  There was no comparison and although I was confident with the other vendor of doing a good job I was more than positive I would get more for the extra money I would spend with Carver. We started the project on 9 June with his employees Shawn Blank and Tony Griffith.  These young men were outstanding.  Communication skill on a daily basis, work ethic and an overview of what was going to happen each day was provided without us ever having to ask.  The second day in they ran into a drain problem downstairs that would have easily warranted them calling in a plumber but they offered to try some solutions on their own.  They spent about 3 hours that morning resolving the issue and twice I offered them a willingness to just call a plumber.  They kept at it and probably saved me at a minimum $500.00.  My wife and I were so grateful and hooked them up the next day with a great lunch in our home.
Remodeling baths is a messy and  noisy job.  These guys cleaned up the work areas daily way beyond our expectations and never took any shortcuts in protecting carpet and other surfaces in our home.  The drywall work they had to do was excellent and they were on time every day.  I did not ever think I would find a better group of workmen than Sawdust Therapy's crew but I was wrong.  Tony and Shawn really represented their company well and the skill level they had was awesome.
The job went well and was actually done prior to the estimated time.  We ended up being charged less than the estimate due to the time saved.  I had one follow up call two days after the job was completed and the next day Tony was out to resolve the issue.
Bottom line I almost short changed myself by assuming Carver and Sons was out of my price range.  I am glad I just hung in with their process and let Dave Carver lead the discovery process in assessing our needs and helping me build a budget.  Dave gave me a clear vision of what to expect and the end result.  The other vendor, although very reliable and would have done a good job, did not come close to the detail that built confidence and the vision we needed to make a commitment.
I would urge anyone to give this company a look.  Everyone has a budget and you might be surprised at the flexibility and out of the box thinking someone like Carver and Son's can provide.

I purchased wide plank T&G flooring from Cali Bamboo, underlayment and glue through Amazon. I removed the carpet and prepped the floor before Finishing Touches arrived. I opted to reinstall the old baseboard, which resulted in significant savings

    Positives:
Getting the bid was quick, painless and fairly priced compared with other bids for the same job. - I ended up choosing Finishing Touches based on a friends' recommendation. The bid included varying options, such as owner removal of carpet and owner installing baseboard instead of just adding shoe molding for an additional cost.

    Negatives:
They showed up both days about 30 minutes later than expected. The installation overall, looks very good. Maybe 4 or 5 very minor chips over 800 sq ft of flooring. There is one spot on the floor that has a very small air gap under a plank. You can hear air being pushed out when you step on it. One corner in the den doesn't quite come close enough to the wall so you can see a sliver of a gap between the baseboard and flooring. There were a couple pieces that were pulled while being installed plus a couple flawed pieces from Cali Bamboo. The bottom line: we ran out of flooring and I had to order another box. This delayed the final installation a few weeks. I ordered the number of square feet in the bid rounded up to the next box. But we still came up short. Stuff happens, but I thought I should add it to the report. I should qualify these negatives. You really have to be looking hard to see them.

Summary: The workers went above and beyond on a lot of little things. They created a very nice threshold to the sliding glass door. The advice to keep the flooring running in the same direction between two rooms that form an L shape was spot on. They also helped with a few baseboard cuts that would have taken me a couple hours but they did in about 15 minutes. The workers were surprised that I purchased the flooring - unpacked and stacked it to acclimate, per Cali Bamboo instructions even though that was the plan from the beginning. The workers also were inclined to nail the flooring down instead of a floating floor install. Floating floor install was the original plan and how it was done (top floor condo unit), but I'm glad I was there to make sure that the flooring wasn't nailed down as I'm not sure this was communicated to the crew.

My experience with Mullikin Floors and More was a very
positive one.  I started the process of
my home remodel in late September. I got quotes from several different places.  I started out by visiting Home Depot where
they convinced me to receive an estimate in my home.  That estimate cost me $35 to have them come
out.  I had them give me an estimate on
just the cabinets and a laminate countertop.
The estimate was for about $10,000, and that wasn?t even installing the
cabinets or countertops!  I received a
few other estimates for some Hardwood flooring in my living room and dining
room, as well as estimates for the tile in the Kitchen.  We also decided to re-carpet rooms in our
home.  This was becoming a hassle working
    with several different companies.  I
    decided to stop by Mullikin Floors and More across from Wal-Mart in Alexandria;
there big SHOP US LAST truck is hard to miss! I have to say I was shocked at
how many different selections they offered, from flooring to cabinets and
granite.  There showroom was very nice
and laid out so that their selections were very easy to see.  After talking with the very friendly and
informative staff I decided to have an estimate, where the owner (James) came
to my home free of charge.  James was
very helpful and had many great ideas in making my home even more beautiful
than I had ever thought possible.  My
whole project was quoted by James! Everything could be done with ONE
company!  As an example on how good their
pricing was, I compared theirs to Home Depot.
Home Depot was at about 10,000 for just material of cabinets and
    laminate countertops.  Whereas, Mullikin
quoted me for material and installation of Cabinets and Granite counter tops
and was a thousand dollars cheaper!  I
believe my cabinets were even better quality than the ones quoted by Home
Depot!  From start to finish Mullikin
impressed me with their excellent customer service and very professional
    install crews.  The Installation went
like a breeze and we had our home remodeled in less than 2 weeks.  In the beginning of this project I dreaded
the effort and work I would have to put into having it done, Mullikin proved me
wrong by making it very very easy on me and my family.  I can?t wait to recommend all of my family
and friends to this wonderful business.
    They truly are professionals!

Did an excellent job installing the flooring.  Made good suggestions on proper flooring to use in this 3 season room where temp can get quite low during winter, although not freezing, and where pets spend some time.  Rod was very timely and dependable - and quite friendly.  I would certainly use him again for any improvement project.

They are professional and they are quick and responsive. They do a good job.  They do quality work and they don’t sub-contract out stuff out to the point where they don’t know what is going on.

We were pleased with how the owners of the company assisted us with our choices and plans for these projects. The flooring looks great and we have noticed less dust in the areas with the hardwood flooring. We did have some concerns about the last portion of the flooring installation in one room. We felt the installer was a little irritated with us -- especially when we questioned how he was completing the job -- it was not as we had discussed/planned. The owners of Patrick's Hardwood Flooring made a personal trip out to see what our concerns were and is aware of other issues we had. They answered our questions and we are happy with how this was handled. We are looking forward to finishing our project sometime soon, hopefully.
