These guys were great and highly professional. They were highly punctual and did the work they said they would do. I would not hesitate to contact them again for repair needs.

Terrific!  I was told that they would come and do repairs on July 15th but came and finished up today ahead of schedule.  Very pleasant to work with.  I definitely will use them again.  Very pleased with the work, cleanup and were very easy to work with.  Came, gave me an estimate, told me when they would be back, brought all of his supplies that he needed and just did it.  Very easy

The fence and deck were stained.  They look great.  The job was neat, no mess up at all.  He removed all the furniture from the deck and replaced it.  I loved the way he was able to work around our flower beds.  The  only hassle we had at all was that he did not estimate the correct amount of stain to be used so we had to order and buy more which put us over budget for the project but the looks and appearance of the deck and fence is fantastic and worth the expense.

Empire Fence & Buildings of Kentucky
Jeremy of Empire fence made an appointment with me for an estimate. He was punctual and offered a price competitive with others I had received. I watched the progress of Empire Fence next to another company in two adjacent yards in my neighborhood. The Empire fence was installed far more efficiently. So, I went with them. Empire installed the fence efficiently and I am very pleased with the results. As a matter-of-fact, they worked during the Memorial Day weekend to complete my project. Further, I found Jeremy very easy to contact when necessary. If I could not reach Jeremy by phone immediately, he always called me back within a reasonable period of time. The final price of the fence was actually LESS than the estimate. But the quality of the work is the best part of the experience.

They were very professional. My husband is German and he watched everything that was done. He makes sure that it is done right or not done at all. They did a beautiful job. They have a year warranty for the installation. We were very happy with the way they did it and the looks of it It is 100 degrees out there and I can't believe how great they worked and didn't stop. Their price was very competitive with everywhere else we looked. We had a pool put in and had to wait until it was installed before we could put the fence up. They called us every Monday to ask us if we were ready for them to come out and put up the fence. They were great about that.

I have called this company twice and made 2 appointments. The first appointment was a no call no show, so I called again. Set a second appointment for the following day and got the same results. Spoke to Landon both times. Not a contractor I would recommend as they can't even keep an appointment.

Mr Fix It Handyman Services, LLC
The guy said he was booked up through the end of August and was going on vacation for a week. All of that was fine, but he said he would be in touch by email and give us an itemized estimate. The gentleman never even bothered to do that or call. My family would not recommend him to anyone.

    Newcastle Fence Co Inc
The "landscaping overhaul" was completed around January 6, 2011.  At that time it looked very nice. I had some "issues" that I discussed with Mr. Carroll at that time… Those issues were:  6 Leland Cypress trees were planted in a very narrow area (about 2 ft wide) to enhance privacy and add visual impact to the newly constructed stonewall (different contractor). Although the dark green color and type of tree looked very beautiful, I expressed concern that these trees might grow too big for the area and later have to be removed. Jeremy assured me that these trees could be “trained” to have slower growth by diligent pruning by his crew. However, if going to be a problem, he would replace them with something else that would offer less privacy but perhaps fit the space better. I agreed to “wait and see”.I had very specifically asked for “dark green” to be the dominant plant color of the evergreen species. The crew had planted numerous evergreen shrubs that were a yellow-green hue. This distressed me, but Mr. Carroll assured me this would look better overall and if I continued to be unhappy with this choice of plant material, it could easily be swapped out at any time. I had very specifically asked for the dominant trees in my landscape to be “Birch” and “Japanese Maples”. The crew did plant 4 Birch & 2 Japanese Maples in the front/side yard. In addition, a number of other trees (non-evergreen) were planted, I do not know what they are, Jeremy told me to trust him, when the trees displayed their leaves in spring and changed to fall color, I would be “thrilled”. I agreed to “wait and see”. There are a total of 5 other trees that were planted in my yard at Jeremy’s recommendation. Again, I was skeptical (I really wanted Birch trees all over my property) but Mr. Carroll assured me it would look great and later if I didn’t like them, he would replace them with the Birch trees I originally wanted. I do not know exactly what they are, but I am not happy with these trees, as they do not accurately convey the look I wanted.  I had asked for 5-6 evergreen trees be planted along the side yard of my home (Left side) to provide privacy for that side of the house where there are 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. On January 6, 2011…Mr. Carroll texted me that they were planning to lay sod and add decorative gravel to the parking area, so “everything will be complete except for the trees on the side of the house today”. At some point, a load of extra gravel was dumped on that side of the house and trees were never planted. · By February of 2011, it was becoming clear that the 6 Leland Cypress trees planted by the pool were not going to thrive in that area (size, no room to grow, drainage). I addressed this issue with Mr. Carroll and we decided that those trees could be placed on the side of the house and something smaller and slower growing should be placed in the narrow plot by the pool. At this time, I entered into a discussion with Jeremy about redoing the backyard to accommodate a fire pit and adding a screened in area for teenagers and a new puppy we were planning to purchase soon. This would include some minor extension of the back deck and adding a set of stairs, but Mr. Carroll was enthusiastic and eager to do this addition to the project. Jeremy explained that his dad was a contractor and could easily do this sort of project. At this time, I told him of my daughter’s plan to host a Prom “before and after party” at our home on May 14, 2011. We talked at great length; I said I needed to have all this work completed by that date…NO EXCEPTIONS. He said “no problem”; there was plenty of time. He expected work on the new project would take 7-10 days once plans were finalized and we could agree on cost. I also expressed my displeasure for lack of dark green foliage in my new landscaping and my dismay that when sod was laid, they did not continue it further to accommodate the natural lay of the land and slope of the hill the new grass was not blending with the old and it looked very odd. On March 9, 2011 I sent him a text message referring to the new sod and my displeasure. He replied, “U know if ur grass doesn’t perk up and blend well this yr we can always sod more. We would have to staple it but that’s no problem” ·      When the new decorative gravel was added to the parking area, it was not enough volume and the old gravel was getting mixed in, therefore negating the whole look of the new gravel, which was added to compliment the stonewall. I pointed this out to Mr. Carroll and he was quick to say “no problem” it will be simple enough to fix this with another load of gravel. ·      By this time I had paid Grade A Landscaping $8500. I believed at this time that Mr. Carroll was sincere in his desire to get this job completed and that he would honor his many promises to make things right. My trust in his ability and was evident as I was about to enter into another phase of work with his company. At this time in our relationship, I completely trusted that he would do everything he had promised and that my job would be completed to my satisfaction in the end. I also understood that Mr. Carroll's wife was expecting a new baby in May and I felt it was vital to get all my projects wrapped up before that time as I imagined his family responsibilities would divert his attention. On April 12, I was beginning to panic as progress had all but stopped on my project. We were planning to have a Prom party and pictures at our home on May 14, 2011. The 6 Leyland Cypress trees had died and were unsightly. All the other issues with the original landscape plan had not been resolved and I had not seen or heard from Mr. Carroll since about March 16. I initiated contact with him regarding my project(s). He seemed "surprised" at my anxiety and offered to come by and discuss the issues. He advised me to "take a deep breath" and "calm down" "all issues will be addressed, it's still very early in the season". On April 14, 2011 he texted me saying he would have my cost and specs on the new plan by next Tuesday (April 19) and that one of his other guys (Alex) would be addressing ALL my other issues in the yard & landscaping ASAP. On Tuesday evening, I texted him, asking if he was coming by with the promised specs & price. He texted me at 8pm saying it was his wife’s birthday, etc…and he would call me in the morning. By April 21, we were still playing phone tag so I texted him and asked him to drop by. At that time, I also asked him about the earlier conversation where he said “issues would be addressed ASAP”. I ask when that would start. He told me Alex had sprayed for weeds (?) and he would “have ur scope” and he would give me a timeframe. He said he was “booked this afternoon” but available to come by the next day. I said ok. By this time I was panicked and furious as my yard was a mess and I was clearly being put on the back burner in spite of the fact I was planning to entertain at my home in about 3 weeks. In addition, I was scheduled (May 2-6) for a final follow-up week of radiation therapy at Vanderbilt for treatment of Cancer. I was beginning to feel very foolish that I had paid this company $8500 and it was becoming clear that I was going to have to hire someone else to fix the mess and make it right. On April 22, I called Mr. Carroll and unleashed my anger. At that point he “assigned” me to Alex, who was going to be in charge of fixing my “issues”. It was clear at this point that there would be no new project involving this company. Alex came sometime during the week of May 2 and dug up the 6 dead Leyland Cypress trees. As I was leaving for Vanderbilt, he was at my home with a crew. When I returned 3-4 hours later, they were gone and they had planted very unsightly Pine trees in place of the Leyland Cypress. I called him and told him I very specifically did not want additional Pine trees in my yard and that these trees were also too large for this spot. He replied that he didn’t think they looked “that bad” and did not understand my anger. He had also taken a Mugho pine shrub out of my yard and when I asked he said he took it because he wasn’t sure where it belonged. I told him that I was having a party for my daughter on May 14, and I was panicked at the condition my yard was now in. He said “no problem”; everything would be fixed in time. On Monday, May 9 I called Alex to see what was the plan since we were now down to the wire. I asked when he was coming by, he said he was on his way to Lexington to do a job and would be back on Friday, May 13.He said he just “ran out of time last week”. I inquired about why he didn’t come with a crew on Saturday or Sunday? He replied he had spent Saturday at the Kentucky Derby in Louisville and Sunday was Mother’s Day. I was furious. I unleashed a verbal tirade, not very lady-like then I asked him what I was supposed to do now that I had run out of time and my yard was a mess. He responded by telling me to I should probably “hire another landscaper” and hung up.

I called him and told him that I didn't need his services because it took him about three months to give an estimate. He just kept with me off making an appointment, he wouldn't show up, I even called up and it was just an unwilling situation. Finally I just said forget it because he was recommended to me by a friend. I wouldn't recommend him or use his services. He never would show up for estimate, footage or pictures of what is available or nothing and this went on and off for atleast two and half months. He gave one estimate and when he did the survey the property was more than what we had thought. So he was supposed to come out and give another estimate. Then I added a footage to another area but he never came back to give me an estimate whatsoever. He told me that he would be here to re-measure but he never even called.

It was a really bad experience.  They take your money in the beginning, and it took all summer to put in the pool.  The fence had damage in the last storm, and now I have to wait for them to come out and put it back up.
