Oral Surgery reviews in Shawnee

I saw Dr. Gaus for two tooth extractions. At that time I did not want to proceed with implants because I have difficulty getting numb and wanted to see how he did. He explained to me that I would need bone grafts and if I did not do them at this time I could not get them which means less success of implants. I told him I understood the risk and was willing to except that. He did not like me questioning him. After the nitrous started he proceed to numb me. I asked him to take a break because my heart was racing. He was not happy about that. I informed him that I did not think he was respecting me or my anxiety. At that point he asked me to leave. I was partially numb and on nitrous. This was completely unprofessional. I left partially numb, with two teeth needing to be pulled and developed a headache because they did not stop the nitrous properly.

It was fast and easy to get an appointment with Dr. Gaus.  We went for a pre-surgery visit where they took x-rays.  Dr. Gaus sat down with us and showed us the x-rays and explained that Kelly's teeth were in good position to be removed fairly easily, but that they did need to be removed.  We had the surgery a couple weeks later.  There was a small glitch in the scheduling - they had us down for one time and the info they gave me was an hour later.  When we got there the office staff said we were late, but they quickly regrouped and the surgery went on as scheduled.  Kelly had a very quick recovery with no problems.  I would recommend this provider.

Dr. Bridenstine is very professional and patient. He's good about answering questions and is good with handing patients who are apprehensive about dental work. He performed extensive work last Fall. The staff is very kind and patient and they are willing to work with my schedule. Shortly after having work done on one tooth, I was having sensitivity issues with the tooth and they stayed late one day to accommodate seeing me.

He is pricey but very good. He does extractions and stuff like that which is very unusual. He takes care of everything including extraction which is very unusual for a general dentist anymore. He is very confident and so is his staff. He was very punctual and got me in when I was supposed to get in. He did a very nice job of reminding me over the internet, telephone calls and when my appointments were; I was working at that time and it was nice to be reminded. He showed up and the people in his office were very professional in dealing with my insurance. His lab assistants and bill assistants were very good. He was very tuned to pain threshold and all that kind of stuff. I had a couple of bridges done there and he measured and sized them; they came out impeccably. I know the lab does their work but the doctor has to do the sizing. I have some friends that went to him hence I went to him too. He is competent. I would probably use him for an oral extraction too because he dealt with some other issues with my mouth that were pretty complicated but he dealt with it very easily and quickly. He is a general dentist including extraction. He didn't do an extraction on me but I know he does because I spoke to him. I was really surprised to know that he did but some of the other work that he did on me was just short of that to know that he is confident enough to do it which is good because oral surgeons are very expensive. I paid for it right up front. He is on the expensive side so I have to pay by the credit card or whatever and then they bill the insurance.

A couple weeks after my appointment, I woke up with pain and a swollen face (cause was sinus infection and wisdom teeth.) It was a Friday. I called and left a message not knowing they were closed on Fridays. I even stopped by to pop in and talk to them about my mouth. The office was dark and doors were locked. To my surprise, I still received a phone call from them to make sure everything had been taken care of; (to make sure my doctor prescribed antibiotics and I was able to schedule a consultation for my wisdom teeth.) They told me to please call if I needed anything at all. For them to call to make sure I recieved what I needed even when they were not in office definitely prompted me to write this review. Not too many places care like that...

Dawn and her staff are excellent, personable, communicative, fast workers, flexible, comfortable, and reasonable. Besides cleanings, fillings, crowns, and root canals, she will also extract teeth. The office itself is clean and modern with up-to-date equipment, including gas if you want. It took 6 weeks to get the initial appointment, but subsequent appointments were about every 2 weeks. Since I work downtown, I also offered to take cancellations, and they were happy to comply. I was able to fit in as many as 3 appts in one week. Dawn also works out of a Lenexa office once each week and sometimes has another dentist working out of that office as well. Waiting times for appts there can be longer. My son and wife go there and like it.

I had no problems with any of her work. Dawn thought one crown that came from the lab was a bit off color, although I couldn't tell. So she arranged for me to go back to the lab for a personal color matching with the techs there. I then took it back to Dawn for her final fitting.

Over the last 15 years I have been through a number of dental plans, and a couple of the dentists were good and a number of others had problems. I recognize that the quality of dentists available on discount dental plans is not top-tier, but Dawn is a gem I would recommend to anyone. Unfortunately, she is dropping my plan the end of 2013, so I will have to find another plan that include her on their provider listing. Many of my colleagues have enrolled in comprehensive plans offered by individual dentists, and I have not inquired yet if she might consider that option.

He is very attentive and not pushy. He doesn't try to make you think you need more work done on your mouth than what you need. Overall, they are great from the staff up front to him in the back. They are very laid back and good at what they do. Everyone is friendly and I have only good things to say about the office.

We are new to the area and DR. James and his staff were amazing.  I tried another office in town and things did not go well.  Dr. Jim set the false diagnosis straight.

We continue to use his practice and recommend him.  Wonderful, thorough, can't say enough good things about him and his staff. They are understanding, patient and helpful
