Office staff are very caring. One of the most pleasant experiences I've had at a dr office! He and his staff make every attempt to schedule testing needed and next appt for results on the same day. Dr Thornton has a great bedside manner. And he is a Jayhawker!

The office visit went fine. I did not have to wait very long to get in to see the doctor as I called in the morning and they were able to see me that afternoon. After the exam the doctor took plenty of time explaining what he found and answered all of my questions. He had me call his office back the following week to let them know how my treatment was going.

It's been a few years. He's the chairman of the department, so he's extremely knowledgeable and up-to-date. I thought he's great. He did follow-ups one a month and every couple of months for about half a dozen visits. He's terrific.

Surgery was a success and I continue to be monitored on a quarterly basis. Since I had done a lot of research prior to my appointment with Dr.Tsue, I knew what to expect. What I did not expect was the fact that if my biopsy wound healed completely it would have been more difficult to locate the tumor and thus would have had to have more of my tongue removed. I therefore had a few days to decide upon having surgery versus waiting weeks or longer. It was a good decision to act quickly. By the time I had the surgery the biopsy wound had already healed over 50 percent. Surgery went well and recovery was rather pain free. The worst part was a mouth full of stitches that were scratchy. Eating was a challenge. You do not realize how much you use your tongue to eat. Therefore for the first month after surgery all my food was pureed. For me that was not a problem since I cook extensively and made normal meals for my husband and then would take my portion and put it in a food processor and pureed it. You do use a lot of little bowls since I kept my meat/fowl, veggies, and starches in separate bowls. I just called it and quot;gourmet pureedand quot;. The other challenge was brushing my teeth and getting the toothpaste out of your mouth. Its like explaining to a small child how to rinse their mouth for the first time.

Since the surgery there has been constant appointments with Dr. Tsue as well as on going CT scans at various intervals. As with any cancer, early detection and constant monitoring keep it at bay. I was extremely fortunate that my cancer was caught at an early stage and did not require chemo.
