    Paul Shoopman Home Building Group
My husband and I LOVE our new Shoopman Home! We were new to Indy and wanted to live in a community that was close to family and good schools and Paul delivered! From the very beginning, we knew we picked the right builder! Shoopman Homes worked with us to find a great lot, on a quiet cul-de-sac, that would accommodate the sweet one-story home we needed. This was our first home, and we didnt really know what to expect, but Paul made the process simple and enjoyable. We visited several model homes before being invited to the showroom where we were able to pick out the colors and other finishing touches that made our home unique. The construction process started on time and was finished ahead of schedule. On move-in day we were warmly welcomed into the home by a Shoopman Homes representative who was very kind and able to answer all of our questions. He walked us through the proper use of the major appliances like the furnace and water heater, and provided guidance regarding the fuse panel, gas and water shut-offs, etc., and made sure we were aware of the manufacturer warranties and extended support provided by Shoopman Homes to help ensure our total home satisfaction. We are happily settled now, and completely satisfied with our new home. I whole-heartedly recommend building with Paul Shoopman! Thank you, Paul!

    Robin Campbell Builders
Now Mr Robin Campbell will not be described as a very emotional person but he and his staff can build you a very fine home. We interviewed 3 builders in total and Robin was by far the most affordable for the size of home we were looking to build. The overall experience of build a custom home can be overwhelming be for two working parents but Robin and his staff did an excellent job of communicating with us every step of the way. All of his contractors were professional and they did an excellent job overall all. Although we knew going in that Robin did not have a design team to offer suggestions during the selection process we do wish we had a bit more direction at times to help guide us through some of the selection process. In the end our overall experience was great and if we had to choose again I would certainly chose Robin again.

    Precision Interiors
It went great. They were installed into concrete/brick and other difficult materials on the outside of the home. The cameras are in a great spot and not in view which is how we wanted them! He hooked them up to the DVR as well and hid all the wiring cleanly so they were not in view. The work was done efficiently and smoothly. My husband & I will definitely hire Michael again in the near future for some additional work! He was on time, polite and professional!

    John Eaton Homes Inc
My experience with John and his group was very positive overall. From the first meeting on my lot, John listened to my vision and offered valuable insight into my plans for my custom home. I provided him and his team with the plans and a long list of specifications to help the bid. After about 2 months (which I thought was reasonable given the scope of the project and on par with other builders), I sat down with John and two others to go over the bid in detail. They were patient with and responsive to all my questions and offered some suggestions for changes that could cut cost if needed.
While I felt confident in their ability to handle this large and unique home, and felt comfortable with them through the proces, I ultimately didn't choose them . This had much more to do with a general comfort level and personality fit I had with another builder than anything against John Eaton Homes. Their bid for this was a bit more than the other two I received, but not so much that it was a major factor in the decision.
I would not hesitate to recommend considering John Eaton Homes if you're planning to build or buy a home.

    Kent Shaffer Builders Inc
Overall, my experience with Kent was very positive. From our initial meeting on my lot, he listened to my ideas and requests and offered insight into issues that I hadn't considered. We toured a near complete spec home of his, which was very nice.
I provided him the plans and a long list of specifications, and after 2 months (which I felt was appropriate for the scope of the project and on par with other bids), we sat down to meet and go over everything. His bid was competitive and fairly detailed, though slightly less than others (though he offered to share as much additional information as I needed).
In general, I felt very comfortable working with him and felt he could have done a fine job with this home. My choice of another builder was more a reflection of a very positive feeling and personality fit with another builder than anything negative toward Kent.
I would not hesitate to recommend Kent Shaffer Builders for consideration for someone looking to build or buy a custom home.

    Robin Campbell Builders

    Builder selection:

We were looking to build our dream home, but didn't really know where to start.  Before we decided to sell our previous home, we read Angie's lists reviews of the top custom home builders in our area.  After reading the reviews, we sent out requests for information to 7-10 builders.  Of those, only a portion responded to our request, and of those respondents, we decided on 4 builders that we would meet face to face with.  For us, responsiveness was paramount in the meetings with perspective home builders.  We always have the opinion that if someone isn't responsive before they have your money, they'll most definitely not be responsive once they do.  At the time, we took meetings with 4 different builders.  During the meetings, we received various levels of detail from each of the respective companies, and by far, Robin was the most prepared, provided clear options, and seemed to have the best approach to dealing with ambiguity.  Robin offered to show us a house that he had recently completed, which furthered our understanding of his quality and process.  At the conclusion of all the meetings with the 4 potential builders, we decided that Robin would be best suited for our needs.

    Home design:

After we agreed to work with Robin to build our home, it was time to identify a suitable building lot and come up with a design for our property.  There were many lots that we considered when weighing all of our options, and Robin helped us hone in on the lot that would work best for our needs.  He met us at the lot many times, even before we decided to buy the lot, to discuss options, what we could do, etc.  After we selected the lot, it was time to come up with the design.  We had a general idea of what we wanted the outside of the property to look like, but were uncertain how to make the interior fit our desires.  After many hours of meetings, phone calls, emails, etc., thanks to Robin, we were able to hone in on a design.  Throughout this design process, there were several iterations back and forth, and Robin never made us feel rushed, always answered calls, responded to our emails, and was a constant voice of reason.  He helped guide us to cost effective solutions, which was very much appreciated.

    Home construction

Once construction began Robin was always on top of it.  He utilizes a website which provides timelines, key dates, estimated completions, inspections, etc., which is very helpful.  This website was able to answer many of the questions that we had throughout the process.  While the house was under construction Robin closely monitored the progress and made sure that any of the subcontractors were delivering exactly what we wanted.  Any time we had a question, requested a modification, or anything like that whatsoever, he always ensured that it was addressed promptly.  Ultimately, once the house was completed it was so much better than anything that we could have imagined!

Many times throughout the construction process we were blown away by the level of quality of building materials and workmanship.  Things such as: quality mechanicals, efficient insulation, wiring to handle larger loads, brick finishing, concrete finishing, solid core doors, argon gas filled windows, cedar & composite decking, etc. were done without us even having to inquire about them.  Robin did not cut corners anywhere throughout the entire duration.

To anyone who is looking to build a custom house:  You have to keep in mind that you must have complete trust in your builder to do the right thing and to be financially responsible.  The builder holds the money and disperses it to the subcontractors.  If you don't have confidence in your builder, this can be a very stressful situation.  From our experience, Robin spent this money as if it were his own.  Never did he agree to any budget overrides without carefully considering alternative options which were more cost effective and he always kept us in the loop on our options.   Robin provided monthly budget reports so that we knew exactly where we stood throughout the entire construction process.

    Value for your money

As previously mentioned, Robin took the utmost responsibility when handling our finances.  This approach ultimately saved us thousands of dollars.  Robin has a knack for understanding your tastes and makes sure that what he's quoting matches those, but he weighs in his opinion when there is a better way to get something done.  We are confident that other builders would have built us the same house and it would have cost $100,000 more than it did with Robin.  He kept us in line with respect to sticking to the budget.  He was also very flexible and let us complete some work ourselves (flooring, tiling, etc.).

Given the chance to build another house, we would, without question, use Robin Campbell Builders again.  We can't speak highly enough of his character, honesty, responsiveness, voice of reason, and years of experience.  Throughout the entire process he always took time to answer any question that we had and never made us feel rushed even if he was meeting with us late into the evening or over the weekend.  His even keeled approach was always reassuring when having to make difficult choices.  Robin did an exemplary job completing our dream home.  You won't be disappointed if you choose Robin Campbell Builders to build your dream home!

They did an excellent job.  We saw some of there other work and were very impressed.  We have now been in our home for about a year and could not be more pleased with it.  I would highly recommend them.

    Heartwood Custom Homes Inc
We had great references on them. They have done absolutely beautiful work near our home and for our friends. However, we could not get timely responses. Then they just stopped returning phone calls and emails. We had wanted to complete a screen porch, but couldn't get it done between first contact in April and last contact in October. I was very disappointed because I think they are fabulous. I guess our project was just too small for them, or maybe they were too busy with their project in Carmel.

    Fischer Homes Inc
The home is 3 years old and yes out of waranty, however the roof vent blew off the house and I could see the sky from the attic. This would have been a 15 min repair but they refused to even talk about it. This happened because of poor construction techniques. Not properly fastened. Every neighbor on my street has had a problem with Fischer Homes. The roof construction is composed of 2/4's. I'm surprised this even passed inspection. I have never seen a roof without being built from 2/6s.Many of the wall studs are on 20 or 24 inch centers instead of 16. It's all of the little things you can't see behind the walls where they get you. This is also probably the reason they only offer a 1 year warranty. If the house were of sturdy construction they would have offered a better warranty. Someone suggested that I should have had an independent inspector look over the home prior to purchase. Never again.
