RIP OFF ALERT" I brought my 2012 Chevy Equinox to Midas for brake and muffler inspection. I was given a quote for 4 new pads, a muffler and to have the rotors turned for over $900. I was shocked to say the least. That seemed quite high. When i questioned the mechanic about it he told me that that was the going rate. I still didnt feel comfortable with that amount of money so I called around and got another quote for the same work for $550. I then called midas and told them the quote i got from a mechanic less than a hundred yards down the street for that amount. He then told me they would match the deal as long as i brought a copy of the quote. So I did just that. The next day i picked up my vehicle and immediately drove it to the other mechanic down the street for additional work on the engine and a sway bar control arm. I then recieved a call from the honest mechanic down the strret to come to their shop. I was dismayed at what they were showing me. The new muffler was put on with JB WELD and was already leaking. Then they took off the pads that they had out on and they appeared to be used pads. There were deep groves with uneven wear on the pads. I literally drove the vehicle)ess that a 1/4 mile. 2 stop lights. I then called the owner Jeff Wishek and explained to him the situation. His response was im not refunding you nothing. So i went to the business and showed him the pictures that the other mechanic showed me of the shotty work and he still refused any refund. So i left and went straight to the court house and filed a case with small claims court. So, BEWARE and stay away from this dishonest auto shop!!! Oh and the hispanic mechanic there got in my face and yelled at me "White Privledge". Unbelievable!!!! I said see you in court.

I wish I needed more of what Heinold + Feller sells. This is a quality operation. They helped me select appropriate snow tires, and then worked with me to determine if dedicated wheels were the right solution for me. I would use them every chance I get. Might even just stop by for coffee with Joe Feller and Matt Braham, that's what good folks they are.

    Sandberg Service Center, Inc
Sandberg's service is criminal. They took my car from a Valparaiso parking lot marked as "fifth third banking only". Being a 53rd member I thought it was OK if I parked, used the 53rd ATM on the parking lot and then paid for a septic permit in the county building located across the street. After taking only 20 minutes to get my septic permit, I came out to see my car just loaded and ready to leave. I tried to explain to the driver my interpretation of the signage and that I hadn't been there before and therefore was not familiar with an actual permit being required. He refused to unload my car so I called the authorities and asked that he get his manager so we could sort things out legally. Unfortunately for me, his manager arrived before the police and physically assaulted me (shoving violently and rearing back to punch me). Since I had the police/911 on the phone I asked what I should do as he hit me over and over again. They said go ahead and let him/the truck go, so I did. When the police asked if I wanted to press charges, I said "yes". But then they said they may press charges against me too, and I quickly got the message, the police were in with the towing company... the towing company probably helps them with impounds. So not only was I assaulted by someone who evidentally thought they were on one of those horrible reality impound shows, but then intimidated not to press charges. Since I am a member of 53rd, I took my complaint to them... so we'll see how that goes. Hopefully I can get some level of justice. Too bad there are such evil people as this out there. The police were ok, but one of them was laughing with Sandberg's when I arrived for the car.

    Valparaiso Transmission
I'm very happy with my decision to go with Valparaiso Transmission. The uniformed tech showed up within 25 minutes of my call and had my car hooked up in no time. Once back at the shop, I was informed I had a pretty simple issue: my starter went out. Hour and a half later and I was on my way, good as new. Included was a 24 mo/24,000 mile warranty. Car care is never fun, but they made this pretty easy.

What was outstanding about their service (and now sets them apart from the other auto service places in Valparaiso - namely Brown's Tire and Heinold & Feller) is that the folks at Levin didn't try to upsell my wife on anything else (such as trying to sell her two more tires, transmission fluid change, etc.). The people at Brown's Tire had told her that she need to replace the timing belt asap and that her car needed about $1,500 worth of other work done.  When she asked the mechanics at Levin, they could have easily played on her concerns by reiterating the apparent nonsense Brown's Tire told her.  Instead, the assured her that, while she should have the timing belt changed in the future, it didn't need to be as an emergency.  They also encouraged her to wait on the other items Brown's had told her needed to be done.
On our second vehicle, we had purchased the fuel tank strap with the intent of putting it on ourselves.  We weren't able to do that and I called Brown's Tire to see if they would put it on for me.  Brown's told me that they would not put these straps on for me, that I would have to purchase the parts from them (they quoted me $150 for them; I paid $40 for them online) and then they quoted me another $150 for labor, for a total of $300.  After my wife's great experience with Levin's, I thought I'd ask them.  Not only were they willing to use the parts I had purchased, but they charged on $73 for the labor to do the work!

Perhaps the biggest factor is finding an auto repair shop you want to stay with is trusting them.  After working with Levin Tire's, we trust them and will be using them going forward.

12/15/14     Had a 2000 Chevy Blazer that would not pass emissions. Went to Main Street Motors in Valparaiso for a reliable vehicle that would pass emissions.
12/16/14     MSM sold me a 2004 Dodge Durango with a trade in on my 2000 Blazer. We were guaranteed that before plating of the Durango it had to pass emissions.
12/17/14     After filling the tank the Durango would not start. Had to get a jump start & drive directly to Auto Zone for a new battery. We were told upon purchase that the battery was new, and it would make it thru the wintertime. At that time we explained that we just purchased a new battery for the Blazer in October and did not want to have to buy another battery. Upon testing the battery it was in fact unusable. Cost to us for a new battery was $123.04
12/18/14     A CD we put in the radio on 12/16 was stuck & the radio would not work. We had to purchase a new radio at the cost of $64.20
12/22/14     The tailgate & drivers side seat had to be fixed & Main Street Motors agreed to make the repairs upon sale of the vehicle. We were told to be at the dealership at 8 a.m. After renting a car at the cost of $52.81 we had to wait until almost 9:30 before someone finally helped us. The person who told us to meet them at 8 o?clock did not show & we were told he would not be in until after 11 a.m.
12/30/14     Durango completely broke down.  The engine sounded like throwing bolts in a blender and there was white smoke everywhere. Complete power loss: could not steer, no power brakes, no door locks, no windows, and no hazard lights. I was locked in a smoking vehicle. We called MSM and the salesman told us to have it towed to their garage. Towing expense of $75.00.
12/31/15     Told by Main Street Motors that the entire engine had to be replaced & due to the holiday we would not hear from anyone until 1/2/15.1/1/15     Made first payment of $116.27
1/3/15     After being left without a vehicle for 5 days I got a ride to MSM to resolve the issue. Nothing had been resolved & we were stranded. I was given our Blazer back to drive while we waited for a solution to be given in regards to the broken down Durango. The owner John told us it would be best for both parties to have the engine replaced and that they would fix it.
1/14/15     Main Street Motors called us to tell us that it would cost us $2500.00 to get the Durango fixed & asked if we had the money to do so. When we told the salesman that we did not have the money he told us that he would speak to the owner John to see what they could do and he would call us back.
1/15/15     Made second payment of $116.27. (Totaling $353.34 for the month) went through for the Durango, which I have not had since December 30 2014. The temporary tag on the Blazer expired on this date once again leaving us without a vehicle.
1/21/15     Main Street Motors salesman finally calls us back after a week of waiting to tell us that he spoke with the owner John, and it would now cost us $1700.00 to get the Durango fixed but still could not give us any clear answers on an exact price.
1/22/15     Although Main Street Motors had my Durango for 23 days they had not made any attempt in finding an engine nor did they have a game plan to take care of the issue. I personally took the initiative to call around for a replacement engine & repair service costs to compare prices. I then spoke to MSM salesman over 3 times giving him information about an engine & reliable mechanics who did engine work. I asked to speak with the owner, but I was not given the option to speak with nor leave a message for him. The salesman told me during the last conversation of the day that he would call me the following day with a schedule of events in relation to repairing the vehicle. When I asked ?Since the temporary tag on the Blazer expired on 1/15/15 what should I do about transportation?? he replied ?Go to BMV, pick up the plates for the Durango, and then put the Durango plate on the Blazer. If you get pulled over just tell the officer the situation & they will understand. This has happened before and we have had other people do that and it has never been a problem.?
1/23/15     Called the business that had the engine we needed to see if Main Street Motors had in fact set things up to have it delivered to their mechanic. They had not. I was told that anyone could buy the engine out from under us if action was not taken soon on setting up the delivery of the engine. Called MSM at 4:54 p.m. because I still had not heard back from the salesman in regards to my repair schedule. Was told by receptionist that she could put a message on his desk for him. Once again we are being disregarded. Finally heard back from salesman at 6:17 p.m. He refused to speak to the primary buyer of the Durango about anything regarding the progress he made that was promised the previous day. He insisted on speaking with the co-signer of the vehicle to state that ?I saw that post on Facebook and I didn?t appreciate it. We felt like you were going to be trouble so we are not going to help you. You need to pick up the Durango tomorrow and drop off the Blazer.?
1/24/15     Had the Durango towed from Main Street Motors to our house. Tow cost $75.00. When tow truck driver opened the hood to look at the engine there were loose parts sitting under the hood.We have since had to rent a car while trying to get the funds to have the Durango repaired which will cost up to $4,000.00 to get fixed. We have a vehicle that is completely broke down, and will not run let alone pass emissions. Main Street Motors Valparaiso will not communicate or provide Customer Service of any kind. We have spent a total of $858.85 to date
(1/27/15) on a vehicle that we have only been able to drive for 15 days.
It is not Feb 13 and the state of Indiana is involved now. We still have to make payments on this vehicle that does not run. I sent a letter to the dealership certified mail to try and communicate and they refused it. The owner called the police on ME and tried to press charges for harassment. So, I have a consumer warning site at main street motors valpo . com Please go there if you need to know what to do if you have been scammed or ripped by this dealership.

I asked if he was sure of the cost and he said, "absolutely!" The heat worked for maybe 10 minutes. After I paid and left, only to have the same end result as when I came in. I was told, no refunds because their services had been done no matter what my reason was. A new water pump & $250 later, I realized Jiffy Lubes "Guarantees" are worthless. I do not recommend!

We've used Ken's several times. We've always has excellent results. When a competitor said we needed a new windshield for our car we went to Ken's for a second opinion. He filled the crack in the windshield that was 5 years ago and the windshield is still fine. We have since used him for other car windshield chips and home window repair. I was also completely impressed with the job he did on our 2013 Avalanche. We had a trucker throw a rock. A new windshield had to be ordered ( ours has the defroster built into the glass) , but it came in quickly, and was repaired quickly.

Mike and his crew did a good job. I've taken my car to Clements for oil changes too. I'm confident in the work they do. They are always pleasant and professional. I also like that they don't try to upsell you on a bunch of off the wall repairs like car dealerships do.

    Green's Towing and Auto Repair
I explained that I was disabled and my only vehicle stopped running while I was driving it. 1st they took over a week to look at it, then charged for a full hour of labor when by their own admission spent ten minutes figuring out what was wrong(they already had an idea)then charged me double the price for the part and then charged me fifty dollars to install it. My insurance company had the truck towed to them. I also told them I had a fixed income.
    Never will trust them again.
