    FOCAL POINT CABINETRY
Got our last corian countertop at Loews, which was fine but we were referred by our realtor and decided to go with the recommendation. We measured all counters and brought drawings with us to get an estimate. Our realtor offered to let the company in any time to do measurements, since we were still in the process of the purchase. After looking at our drawing, Brian (son of the owner, as we later found out) told us that the main counter is too complicated and that instead of coming in to measure, they'd rather just come and take it as a template, leaving us with the island to use in the meantime which had a small 15x15 bar sink. They gave us an estimate of $6,300 based on our measurements (done by an engineer). We agreed, picked a color, scheduled the two appointments (monday to tear out, friday to install). They ran a special for a "free" sink included with the corian counter purchase. they showed us poor copies of hard to define shapes to pick from, and we later followed up via email to choose a sink type for the main counter. Brian told us that they don't have any choices for the bar sink, and that it might be a little bigger. We paid half as the deposit. After we walked out, I realized he never asked us what edge details we wanted, so I went back in to ask. He showed me two types, a sharp corner and a very rounded one. My husband said he wanted to rounded edge and we left. The install crew was very nice, they removed our main counter as scheduled. however when I came home on the install day, I was shocked. the bar sink was the size of a janitor closet utility sink, wouldn't even fit in the cabinet and looked like it belonged in the basement laundry room. The dimension (18x18!) was actually bigger than the main counter sink! Brian was convincing me we need to redo all the plumbing, etc. I was in tears of how hideous it looked after spending so much money. At that point I realized that unlike Loews, which measured every detail, and put it ALL in writing, every edge style, cut, and measurement. We didn't have any details written on our contract. Just the price. Then after the initial shock, we noticed the the main sink was also different than what we picked, as well as the counter edge... Yes, $6,300... They refused to acknowledge their mistakes. They did replace the bar sink for a more suitable 15 inch. but would not give us any credit for the wrong main sink or edge finish. They claimed that we picked the other edge and as far as the sink, which we clearly had images of in the email exchange, we were told to not complain since it was free as the special!!! I was absolutely stunned, wanted to at least get some discount and they threatened to put a lien on the house. Our realtor called them to get them to make it right and they simply refused. What a horrible way to run a business. I will never deal with someone who is so incompetent that they can't even write down the basic measurements!!!

I am extremely pleased with the door installation. My home is almost 100 years old, so getting the correct fit was not an easy task. Mr. Konkey arrrived at the appointed time and worked diligently to ensure the door was correctly fitted. I couldnt be more pleased with his price, professionalism, and attention to detail. Thanks to Scott I have a new door that I love! Would I hire him again? Its an emphatic, Yes, from this pleased customer!

    JS SPECIALTY PAINTING INC
This painter was recommended as the best. Do not hire this painter! When I told the worker there was white paint on my new black cabinets, he told the boss. The boss came to me and said it is dust! It was paint. The boss argued with me! After painting molding in the bathroom they got paint all over the vanity. The boss argued with me and told me that I said the paint was the same color. The boss said you can't tell it is different color when it is wet. The boss also said he wasn't supposed to paint that area anyways, this was extra! The boss painted 6 interior doors that smelled like an old ash tray. When I said the paint smelled. He yelled at me saying he had never had anyone say he used old paint. He said he bought new paint for this job. Looking at the rust on the can, would make you question how new the paint was?? This painter does not care about your home. We have paint on our new floor that cannot be removed. Paint my new cabinets that cannot be removed. I have ordered a new door and new drawer. Paint on my new deck. Paint on the bathroom vanity, paint on my new counter tops. White paint drops on new gray paint. When we asked to finish the trim the painter yelled at me. When we asked the painter to put the thremastat back on the wall he yelled at me! What ever happen to customer service with this painter? I would not hire this painter.

    HomeWorks Construction Inc
I have nothing but good things to say about this company. I am the parent of a Notre Dame student who, along with roommates, was involved in a lawsuit over alleged damages to a large off-campus house NOT affiliated with the school. There were some holes in walls, a few broken door locks, a damaged fence and windows, and a few other very fixable issues. Students were planning to clean, fix what they could and pay for the rest, but thought they had until the end of the school year to do it. Without warning, one month before graduation they were threatened with eviction and sued for tens of thousands of dollars in damages, which, in addition to the actual damages, included two new refrigerators, replacing old ceramic tile floors, new carpeting, light fixtures, wood floor refinishing, cleaning charges, and painting of "entire house." It was clearly a shakedown. Nathan at HomeWorks responded to the students' call within hours and gave them a quick but thorough estimate to repair the damages they were actually responsible for. The estimate from HomeWorks was about one tenth of what the landlord was demanding. The students also asked HomeWorks to do a separate estimate for everything the landlord wanted done, in case it came to that. This number was about one fourth of the landlord's number. Thanks to these more realistic numbers, the judge allowed them to stay in the house but, due to timing issues, permitted the landlord to hire his own contractor. Unfortunately, this meant HomeWorks did not get awarded the job. It was an expensive lesson, with students on the hook for the landlord's legal fees on top of their own. HomeWorks' quick response and reasonable estimates, however, were a huge help in preventing eviction, exposing the landlord's deceptive tactics and forcing a settlement. I am confident HomeWorks would have done a great job at a fair price, had the students been able to hire them. I only wish they had called them sooner.

    Reliable Roofing & Construction
This was their first project using a totally new material and they made sure they had the support they needed to insure the project went well and the installation was done correctly. It was not without a few hiccups along the way, as can be expected, but the way they handled any issues that came up was exemplary! I would have no hesitation calling them in the future for other remodelling needs as well and I highly recommend them. The owner is very honest and hardworking and he has some really great people on his crew who work hard, know what they are doing and are very easy to get along with. Here's a video of our property; [*** Link removed ***]

    Mr. and Mrs. Handyman
Mr. and Mrs. Handyman are hard-working, friendly and no-nonsense. Their rates are fair, and probably the lowest around. It is a great value because they take pride in their work and if any issue comes up, they are right back to make sure the job is done right. They get a lot of business, so they stay busy, but if you have an urgent issue, they are good about coming right away to help. They are a great team.

Mr. Handyman of Northern St Joseph & Elkhart Co
From start to finish I was given Class A service. David Sipp provided ideas and design that I'm thrilled with. The construction team were professional, prompt daily, efficient, and extremely considerate while working in my home. They kept me informed of their progress and solicited my input on many issues to ensure my satisfaction. Once completed they provided follow up visits to tweak minor issues until I was 100% satisfied. I have a beautiful bathroom I'm proud of.

    Quality Home Improvement
Quality Home Improvement is a very small company, literally a two person operation. Don't, however underestimate them. They do first class work and their fee was very competitive with the other contractors we had provide estimates. . The project they did for us was a total re-do of our small bathroom that included an alcove stall shower, toilet, alcove vanity with top, flooring and lighting. The project took much longer to complete than expected, mostly due to some snags that were not anticipated and not the fault of them. Some of the measurements made by the materials supplier were not precise which is critical for the tight alcoves involved. Pieces of the shower stall, for example had defects and had to be returned. It took at least 5 sets to allow the installation. In spite of the snags, they used their experience and expertise to use creative and effective solutions to complete the project. Their attention to detail was outstanding. We highly recommend Quality Home Improvement and will hire them again for some additional projects around our house.
