Home Security System reviews in Plainfield

When we first had our system installed it was a local (Indianapolis) company called Myers Security on 3/6/2012. Everything went great with them and they sold out/merged to Illinois based FE Moran. Everything seemed fine until 2016 rolled around. They started calling us and telling us that 2G service by ATT was being phased out and we could lose service "at any time". We said okay, what needs to be done. They wanted around $200 from us for a new chip and we would have to sign a new 3 year contract in order to be able to secure our connection to their service. We found this unacceptable and ignored several more calls. The last call we got we told the not to call back unless they will replace the chip for free and agree to keep us as customers without the condition of a new contract. The phone went silent and we ended up having to hang up without a response. I called the customer service number on one of the many mailings I received from them and got a message that no representatives were available and to leave a message. IF you cannot hire enough people to watch your customer lines then that is a bad sign. Then I called a major competitor who gave an offer with a slightly higher rate (few dollars a month), $1600 worth of equipment, re certifying my current equipment where possible, Installation $99, but will receive a $100 visa gift card, two remotes, oh and most importantly a free cell chip to be placed in a nice new control module. So, then I attempted to call the Moran customer service number again (2PM) and once again got "please leave a message". The way they have handled this entire issue has lead me to find a different provider with a good deal that will give me new equipment with a 3 year contract rather than expect me to give them money and sign a new contract just to get a chip. Their poor skills at customer retention and customer service have caused us to go elsewhere. If this is how they treat customers of 4 years, then I want nothing to do with them. I want nothing out of FE Moran other than a prorated refund of monitoring fees once I cancel.

We're very happy with the security system. They were very professional. They answered all my questions well. I think they did a good job installing the system and explaining how it works. They did not fall short at all, in fact the came out twice.  The first time, they're going to have it installed and when they explained how they were going to do it, my wife said I just don't know if we need this, lets not do this. I told them to hang on to what information we had given them. I called them back and they were very gracious about that.

It works just fine! The company did an excellent job for us and we were very happy. It works just as advertised. We know from a few accidental trippings through the door that it works and they are very quick to call and see if there are any problems.

I've had problems with the system for several months, primarily false alarms.  It took several calls and several days to remedy.  They promised to waive the "trip charge" for service tech call, but I received a bill and it took multiple calls to get that resolved.  Customer service is terrible.  Very long wait times, multiple transfers and I started over with every person I was transferred to.  I've attempted recently to manage my account online, but that portion of their website has frequent problems and after multiple attempts to pay bills online, I gave up.  When I called to cancel, the agent hassled me quite a bit on the phone - to the point of arguing with me about canceling, calling into question my reasons for canceling and failing to simply process my request.  I can't get away from ADT fast enough.  Don't be fooled the by the big brand name.

We are extremely pleased with all aspects of the installation. Prior to installation, Theo and Kenny went above and beyond the call of duty in explaining the operation of the system and advising us of the best array of sensor types, etc., for our home. They were prompt, courteous, well-informed, skilled at answering our questions, and thoroughly professional in every way. We are happy to recommend them without hesitation.

We met the owner at one of the Indianapolis home shows and talked with him about our security needs, costs, and equipment. He mentioned it was a locally owned company and monitored locally as well. We scheduled a time for a sales person to come out and analyze our account and give us an estimate. The sales guy was very professional and on time. I walked through the house and we changed the plan (equipment) around a little from what was offered to maximize our protection without adding alot of cost (example we took off a CO monitor and added an upstairs smoke detector.) After looking at pricing with national companies everything was very comparable, so we went with the local company (Myers). I called to set up appointment to get installation. The installation guy was running early and called ahead to make sure this would be okay. We went through house together and identified where different monitors were going to be placed and where the main unit would be.  Upon finishing setup on the unit the tech and I tested the glass breaks to make sure the windows we wanted monitored would be covered appropriately. Installation was finished and the Tech had mentioned that while installing the main unit the only light in the room had gone out and that he didnt think he did anything to it, but if we cant get it to work to let the company know and they would take care of it. Luckily just flipping the switch a few times got the old fluorescent tubes to light up, so no problems --- but I am impressed that the installer stepped up like that and admitted something happened even though he didn't feel like he did anything wrong. The tech was nice to my children and didn't mind the two toddlers checking out what he was doing to their house from time to time. I have had the system about a month now and only had one possible alarm which was easily dismissed once the call center called me.

My contract ended in 2009, but was autorenewed without my consent or knowledge. They said that the autorenewal was listed in the original contract, but they provided absolutely no warning of its occurence. I canceled my landline, which means that I cannot keep the alarm at the same price, so I am at a loss of what to do. They said I either have to upgrade to the cellular system at a higher price, or buy out the contract for $643.72. I spoke with the owner, and even he said that there was nothing he could do, and that a contract is a contract, and he was not particularly pleasant about it. update: They are going to be sending me a letter as confirmation that they are going to be cancelling my contract after we negotiated everything out.
