Hardwood Flooring reviews in Plainfield

Scott and his crew provided the lowest cost estimate for this job.  Scott showed up quickly and provided an estimate for the job.  We originally were going to have him lay tile in the bathrooms, kitchen, and foyer, but with the cost being so reasonable, we added hardwood floor to the rest of the first floor.  They started on the selected day, after contract and 50% down payment.  Scott added on the hardwood estimate, when asked, and was able to immediately start on the hardwood when he finished the tile.  They did take a while longer than expected on the tile floors, due to the amount of tile that needed to be laid.  The hardwood floors went in quickly, and look great. They were at my house almost daily for 3-4 weeks to complete the job.  I was very happy with the completed work.
We ran into a problem about 30 days later.  The grout in all of the tile floors started cracking.  I notified Scott of the problems, and he had one of his crew members show up to look at the floors.  His crew member looked at the floor and noted that it was probably due to the grout not being pushed into the cracks hard enough.  Scott then came by and looked at the floor.  He felt as though the problem was due to house settling.  We did have some floor sag as the joists took on the weight of the newly added tile flooring, but these cracks were extensive.  Scott agreed to fix the grout, and would fix it as soon as his crew was available.  I had a contractor associate come by and look at the floors, and he felt the problem was not pushing the grout into the cracks hard enough, leaving gaps between the grout and the subfloor.  Either way, the flooring was going to be fixed so I was happy.
Scott planned on coming by in 2 weeks to start fixing the grout.  2 weeks came by and he did not show.  I called, and he informed me that he would get started two days later.  2 days later, he did not show.  I called and he stated he would get to it the next week.  The next week came, and I did not hear from him.  I was able to finally reach him, and told him I expect him to show up to fix the flooring problem.  He had his crew show up the following Monday.  After talking with the crew, I found out that Scott was not trying to ignore me, but had forgotten about the repair job as he had been busy recently.  The crew got to work grinding the old grout out and pushing new grout in.  This time they had their more experienced member applying the grout.  One problem I ran into, was the lack of preparation to keeping the other rooms of the house clean.  The crew spent 45 minutes cleaning dust out of the other rooms, due to not hanging plastic properly when grinding out the grout.  Despite the work by the crew, we had to put in a few hours to get most of the dust up, and we are still seeing grout dust in places to this day.  I think this is a little bit of lack of experience, and no doubt a problem they will avoid in the future.
Scott did arrive later in the day and asked me to sign a contract stating that the problem was due to house settling, and that he would repair the flooring one time, and would not repair it again without charge.  I refused to sign the agreement, telling him that if it cracked again in 30 days, due to poor installation, then he would have to come out and fix it again.  I never saw a contract again.  Luckily this time the installation was completed well, and it has been over 1 year since he fixed the grout.  The grout has not cracked, and the floors look just as good as when they were installed.
Scott and his crew are a group of young men who are establishing themselves in the contractor profession.  They did complete the job as requested, and fixed it to my specifications after the flooring failed after installation.  Scott does need some better organization when it comes to keeping track of pending jobs, so that customers to not get lost.  I expected a good flooring job, and received a product I am very happy with.  Overall, I received exactly what I expected for the price I paid.  I wish Scott and his crew luck in the future, as he will no doubt get better with his organization, timing, and finishing skills as he and his crew gain experience. I would not hesitate to use Pro-con again in the future.

While fixing up my dad's house for sale, we happened on really nice but old HW floors while removing carpeting. Lee, the GM was able to come over and provide an estimate to restore the floors within a day of the discovery. He was quite frank, telling us some areas were better than others, but overall for the age of the floors, they were in pretty good shape. He detailed what would happen, how long it would take, even the smells, after care, and how they would clean up afterwards. His quote was fair - with no and quot;add on later costs.and quot; Work started the same week. The entire process took only the better part of 3 days and the results were amazing. Jason did most of the actual work. He claims 20 years of experience in refinishing floors and I have no doubt! He was quite the stickler for detail and perfection. He arrived early each morning - on time! - and worked continuously until he was satisfied with the daily result. I couldn't be more pleased with not only the floors, but the professionalism and great workmanship afforded by Lee, Jason and company, Floor Craft Sanding. Thanks guys!

Reese came and made the estimate, he came at the agreed on time and did a thorough job. We did not make the decision to do the work immediately, so it was approximately 8 months later when we contacted Wayne at the office to see if the bid was still valid.  They were able to do it for the original bid price.  They requested half down and as soon as it was paid, the product was ordered.  A day was set for installation, but flooring has to adjust for house environment, so it was brought by a few days before the work was to be done.  When Wayne delivered it he discovered that the molding did not match correctly, so he took it back to get the right match.  The day of the install, Rob and Chaz came right on time.  They are both very knowledgeable and work quickly.  They were very careful to get a good match and have the lines look good.  I appreciated that.  They got the job done in just a few hours and it looks great.  They totally cleaned up any debris and there was little dust in the house, since they did the cutting outside.  I would not hesitate to use them again and highly recommend them.

They did an outstanding job. The guy was so outstanding. He took a couple of hours just to get my little closet perfect. We had one piece come up and they came back out automatically with no charge and fixed it. On the price, I don’t know if the price was high or low or what but we like what we got. He says we can get cheaper but the workers were outstanding and fabulous. These guys came out and measured everything and we were able to bring samples home. When we went in there, we have a very open concept in this house. I didn’t want to have laminate floor wood color all the way up to the kitchen cabinets but I couldn’t find flooring that really looked good in the kitchen area that was more fancy. I am traditional. They were very up on the latest things that we haven’t seen anywhere else. We were able to bring different things home and they did say that the way it looks in the store is not the way it looks at home and I’ll be darn to say that they were absolutely right. We went darker than what we would have picked and I absolutely love it. The crew that they sent was a fabulous crew. They are just amazing.

We stopped by the show room to look at flooring samples to replace our kitchen flooring.  The sales man who greeted us was new and when he discovered we wanted a product he was not yet familiar with, he brought over a more experiences person.  We did appreciate that.  We choose a few samples that we liked and were encouraged to take them home to see how they looked.  I was satisfied with the product and the price.
The installation team showed up when they were scheduled (within the period agreed on at the sale).  They looked at the damaged part of the floor and told us it was beyond their ability to repair.  He did suggest a contractor who came over with in a couple of hours.  The contactor repaired the beam and floor and then the installer put in the flooring.
All in all I was pleased.  I was glad the installer recognized the damaged floor was beyond his ability to repair and that he could reccommend a contractor who would actually come over on the same day and make the repair.
I love the wood floor, it looks great and is easy to care for.

The process started with the purchase of a Groupon for hard wood floor refinishing. As the Groupon did not cover the total square footage, a quote was drawn up for the entire job. The majority of the work was to take place while I was out of town for two weeks. The day it was to start the project manager called and said his staff was sick and he would not be able to start. This was fine since I was to be out of town for two weeks and just wanted the majority of the work done by the time I got back. The work was completed in the rooms available but the results were very disappointing. I came home to big splotchy areas of different shades and trash and dust left in the HVAC vents (why weren't they covered?).
Despite speaking with the Project Manager a few days before work was to start and clearly stating the floors were to be stained a shade no lighter then they were currently, the foors were lighter and had been only sanded and sealed. This resulted in different shades in different areas and a completely uneven appearance. I immediately contacted the Project Manager to ask about the different shades and was basically told and quot;yeah we noticed thatand quot; and and quot;we don't know why it's like thatand quot;. I guess they just thought I wouldn't notice? Why didn't they try to fix them while I was out of town? I expected more corrective solutions from a company who performs this service professionally. To their credit they offered to refinish a test area and see if they could fix it after I had returned home. This was of course much more inconvenient now that I was back home in the house. Again they did not use a stain (only sealer), the results were slightly better so all of the floors were refinished again. They were again not stained which led to unevenness, although they were a little better. At this point it was obvious I was going to have to have the floors refinished by a different company sometime in the future, so they finished the job and left.
I found it interesting that in the other review from May 7, 2012, they did not remove quarter round at the other reviewers home based on their review. The Groupon I purchased specifically included removal and resetting of quarter round trim as necessary during the process. I asked about it when a full quote was provided and specifically noted it on the quote before signing. However, it also was not done in my home which also has stained quarter round trim. I can see where the sander hit the trim and where sealer was slopped up on it. So the company's and quot;surprisedand quot; response to the previous review seems questionable considering the exact same thing was allowed to happen in my home. A service was paid for and not provided. Some other minor quality issues include: leaving bags of replaced boards with nails sticking out of them (only supposed to leave bags of dust) and slopping a big puddle of sealer in one my HVAC vents. Overall I did not see attention to detail shown by this company. Options (stain, matching the quarter sawn grain for replacement boards, which boards to replace, etc) would be discussed with the Project Manager and I guess not communicated to the workers. It was always a surprise to see the results were different then what was discussed. While my floors are 90 years old and had some bad staining issues in select areas, the majority of the floors where in serviceable shape and the results should have been better overall. I'm now hesitant to admit to guests in my home that the floors were even refinished.

The wood was stained at CMH, and the measuring, cutting and install was done at my home.  The 1st day consisted of painting the basement, removing the carpet on the stairs, removing the trim along the stairs and removing the boards underneath the carpet.  The 2nd and 3rd day consisted of finishing up painting of the basement, and the installation of the stained wood stairs and trim.  The polyurethane coat was applied at the end, allowed to dry for 24 hours, and then applied again.  Everything looks gorgeous!

When my house caught on fire, Fentress builders was the preferred company to use by my homeowners insurance to repair my house. They came in and made it clear that I no longer needed to worry about anything and promised to not only make our house as good as new but suggested it would probably look better than ever... and they were right. We are now back in our house and are absolutely in love with our new old house. The level of quality and professionalism far exceeded my expectations. All of the contractors that worked in and on our home were all very friendly and were excellent at what they do. We couldnt be happier with the end result. Thank you to all who helped get us back into our home.

Mr. Inglis demonstrated his professionalism at every step of the process. He arrived when he promised he would, gave me lots of great advice, made suggestions for improving the project, and really listened to what we wanted for our home. The project required some unexpected work (that was not Mr. Inglis's fault and that no one could have known about in advance), but Mr. Inglis was incredibly flexible about resolving the problems. This required a fair amount of extra work on his part, but he was more than fair in resolving this. He did not take obvious opportunities to gouge me as some people would. The floor is beautiful. Mr. Inglis did something that none of the other bidders offered: he laced the new floor in with the existing kitchen floor so that they make a seamless transition throughout the house. Mr. Inglis suggested we replace our register grates with hardwood ones that are sanded and finished to match the floor. It adds an extra level of class that makes the installation look fantastic. The area around our fireplace is terrific. Mr. Inglis took great care to make the frame fit well with the slightly irregular bricks so there are no gaps.
