Pet Specialist reviews in Michigan City

Awful. Just awful. This place is the worst. Take your pets somewhere less expensive, where they act more professionally and treat their clients--animals and animal owners alike--with the utmost dignity and respect.

On Monday 7/25/16 our cat, Fred, had an appointment with Dr. Kathryn Hill at Michigan City Animal Hospital for blood work and an ultrasound, which required that he be sedated. When Dr. Hill called to let us know the procedures had been completed and we could pick up Fred, I asked her if he came out of the anesthesia ok and was told that he did. We spent approximately 15-20 minutes with Dr. Hill reviewing his test results with no mention by her of anything amiss. During this ...time, Fred remained in his carrier. When we returned home, Fred tore out of his carrier and hid under the bed. When he came out, we noticed immediately that he was limping. We called the office and were then told by Dr. Hill that an injury had occurred there as he was coming out of the sedation, but that she had determined that he was ok. She still provided no real details of what had occurred. We asked her what she thought we were possibly dealing with; a broken leg, a dislocation? She said no, it was likely only a strain. The next morning, since Fred was still limping and hiding, we made an appointment with another vet for late that day, assuming still that we were dealing with a pulled or strained muscle. We then spoke to Dr. Bailey at M.C. Animal Hospital and were told for the first time what had actually occurred. Dr. Hill had dropped Fred while he was still partially sedated. She then sent him home with us without as much as a mention that anything had occurred. At his Tuesday afternoon appointment with his new vet, the X-rays revealed that Fred had a broken pelvis. For more than 24 hours, he suffered with no treatment or pain medication whatsoever. Dr. Hill directly caused his injury, neglected to treat it, and chose not to inform us about it. I know this is a lengthy post, but we feel that the astounding lack of professionalism demonstrated by Dr. Kathryn Hill warrants it, and anyone in our area who has an animal who they love deserves to be aware of it. We do want to add that as soon as Dr. Bailey became aware of what occurred, he has been as always, wonderful and helpful. He has been consulting with us and Fred's new vet regarding his care. We have had and continue to have the utmost respect for and confidence in him personally. Our understanding, however is that Dr. Hill will continue to be employed at M.C. Animal Hospital, so, after almost 20 years, we unfortunately can no longer entrust our animals to their care.

Within a 24 hour period my cat was in there twice...each time I felt great care was taken. However, I knew I was going to have to put him to sleep...and I feel I paid for rounds of tests that my kitty simply didn't need. Dr. Bailey is very smart and I'm sure he is doing this to help the pets out. But sometimes a "mom" just knows...and this was one of those times.
The work was performed at Michigan City Animal Hospital. Dates are approximate.

They are very friendly, professional and reasonably priced. They have a broad range of services. My dog has had surgery and they have always been very good. They are very good about following up after you’ve been there.

Michigan City Animal Hospital is a wonderful place, much better than Pet Pals of Michigan. In fact, there is no comparison. MCAH is truly professional and our baby loves it.
The groomer Stacey works wonders with our long haired Polish Lowland Sheepdog. The doctors are knowledgeable, personable and effective. The front desk staff are genuinely friendly, efficient and true animal lovers. The kennel service is quite good. Baby seemed content after her 12 day stay. It seems that the staff did pay attention to their canine guests since our dog. Our dog returned home healthy and happy.
Michigan City Animal Hospital provides something particularly important: peace of mind. You can leave your beloved hairy family member with them with complete confidence.
    Simply wonderful!   A+

The job was disasterous. Our dog went in as a pedigreed sheep dog and left as a freakish caricature of a poodle! Pet Pals either had no familiarilty with the breed or simply did not care. Czarka's beautiful broad feet were tapered to a point making her look as if she were on high heels. Her face was shaven, none of the disinctive bangs of a sheep dog were left. Her massive, fluffy ears were thinned out to pitiful looking stringy remnants. Her coat was uneven and had a choppy appearance. Even after 7 months her ears have not grown back and her fur is too short and uneven. The goormer admitted that the look was not what she had intended. When I complained the owner admitted the grooming was ptachwork and they tried to blend it in to the rest of the dog. Apparently, it was not enough to make our beloved dog a partial freak. Pet Pals had to complete the job of making it difficuilt for her to regain her normal appearance.

We love our Polish Lowland Sheepdog, Czarka. Yet, it pained us to have to look at this freak created by Pet Pals' incompetence. We are still waiting for our beloved baby to come home.

Dr. Reed and his staff are wonderful. I have taken my dog to him for many years and have never had a bad experience. His heart is in taking care of the animals and not trying to rip you off on unnecessary tests. I have recommended him to many people and all have had the same experience as I have.

My dog hates to be groomed. Laurie and her staff are amazing - very patient, thorough and professional. I had been through five or more groomers until I found Laurie over a year ago. My dog goes about once every six weeks. He used to come home a basket case - but since the first time he's gone to Laurie's Precious Paws - he's come home happy and looking great! The work with all special requests and I think they even pick-up/drop-off. WONDERFUL PLACE!

I can really recommend this animal hospital because of the excellent care my animal receives from these vets. All of them are very professional and always kind to her. They have a good facility that is clean and well kept and the prices are reasonable.

A bump under my cat's tail developed and enlarged. Eventually, it became bothersome to her and worrisome to me. Dr. Sue Ferraro reassured me that it needed to be removed, and we decided to clean the cat's teeth as well during the operation. The cat is much better, and she is moving her tail just as expressively as she did prior to the operation.
