Tire Buying And Repair reviews in Evansville

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • These are are absolutely amazing. The place is clean and put together. Every-time I go into this location they help educate me on my tire needs and they do not try to over sell me. I know nothing about cars but always leave feeling safe and confident in my decision. Very happy and will always be a customer.

  • We cannot say enough good things about Menke's Auto Repair.
Several months ago, while still living in Colorado, my wife and I purchased a used 2007 Suburban.  Soon thereafter, we started having difficulties. I would love to provide a review of THAT car dealer, but Angie's List says we can't because we're in a different location, now.  Suffice it to say, they knew of the existing problem, misled us and even covered up a much larger issue.
However, after multiple attempts to solve the problem, we had to move back to Evansville.  Within a month of arriving, the Check Engine light came on and the truck went into low-power mode. After contacting Angie's List to check on area mechanics, we found that Menke's came as both the highest rated and with the best recommendations.
We limped in to Menke's the next Monday morning.  If you've never been to their shop, be ready for a very pleasant surprise.  First, the work area is SPOTLESS.  I've been to some very high-end garages.  I've even been to some of the top personalities in NASCAR and never have I seen an auto repair shop as clean as Menke's.  This is not only true for the reception area, but for the shop floor, itself.  I felt like I was in the shop of a true automotive enthusiast who was just as proud of his garage as he was of his show cars.
We had called ahead to schedule an appointment, so the initial interview was short and professional and was performed by Joe Wiedrich, the Service Manager, himself.  We were told to expect an  hour's wait.  With another shop, this means you'd have to sit in one of those plastic and metal chairs reminiscent of high-school functions and about as comfortable as sitting on a metal bench.
Not so for Menke's.   We were invited into the back room which has to be the most comfortable waiting room I have ever seen, in any industry.  We sat on reclining couches and were invited to use their free WiFi.
Then came the dreaded wait.  If you've ever had a major problem with an expensive vehicle, you understand what I mean.  We'd had diagnostics done a week earlier, but honestly seldom trust a dealer after having been taken in twice before on other vehicles.
About an  hour later, Joe came in with the verdict.  We had a choice: Either perform exploratory "surgery" or just commit to buying a new engine.  He ran several options by us and was EXTREMELY patient with our incessant questions.  The problem was that there was no compression in two of the cylinders and frozen intake valves.  It was possible that the damage stopped there, but the suspicion was that it ran deeper.   My choice was to have them spend more shop hours digging down into the engine in the hopes that the damage didn't go deeper, or just have an engine replaced.
After awhile, it became obvious that it would just be the most beneficial route to get a new engine.  The vehicle already had over 130,000 miles on it and my wife and I made the decision to just get a new Jasper engine and not have to worry about other parts going in the near future.
But, therein lay the problem. . .we had just moved from Colorado to Indiana.  Funds were extremely tight and the $7500 quoted was not something we would be able to lay our hands on by the end of the week.   We explained our situation to Joe who simply told us to wait a minute and he walked out of the room.
A few moments later, he walked back in  and handed us a set of keys.
Not to our own vehicle, but to a loaner vehicle.  I had explained that it may take a bit longer than a week to get the money.  Menke's offered us the use of one of their vehicles until we could get everything squared away.
Soon thereafter, because of the use of their loaner car, we were able to get the money and notified Menke's that we were ready.  Once again, Joe took charge and got the work started.   Our mechanic was Brad MeNeely a technician with over 35 years of experience.  Once started, our engine was swapped out within a week.
Once the work was performed, both Joe and Brad reviewed the work with us and what would be necessary for maintenance and to stay within the warranty agreement given by Jasper.
Now, that's not the end of it.  In the beginning of the review, I mentioned an Electronic Gremlin.  Certain years of Chevy trucks are reknowned for a continuing problem concerning the Stabilitrak  Traction Control System.  This system is so intricate and involved that practically anything would cause the equivalent of an electronic seizure to the vehicle.  Out of the blue, while you're driving, the door locks would lock and unlock several times, the dials would power on and off giving all sorts of readings, the check engine light would go on and the vehicle would start running rough and shifting very hard.
There was no rhyme or reason to what would cause this.  Researching the issue on the internet only resulted in a long list of possible problems from tire speed sensors to throttle body positioning sensors to a loose connection somewhere in the wiring harness.  We had tried several times to have it fixed running up bills ranging from $200 to $600 only to have hit happen again and again.  One of the biggest problems was that it wouldn't happen with any warning or regularity.  Usually, when it happened, it would fix itself within 20 minutes and we couldn't get to a mechanic in time for them to see what happened.
Luckily, we went back to Menke's for the initial 500 mile oil change on the new engine and, just as we arrived, the truck had another episode.   Joe went right outside and, grabbing a mechanic (I think it was Brad Meneely, again) was able to fix it within fifteen minutes.  This after having half a dozen mechanics looking at it and giving us a similar number of explanations and fixes.
Menke's has proven to us that they are an honest and reliable mechanic, something that's as hard to find as hen's teeth.  Though your drive may be a bit longer to get to them in Newburgh, the professionalism, honesty and efficiency are more than worth the drive.
Not only will I be taking all of my vehicles to them for repair, but I'll go the extra mile to have them do the service such as oil and filter changes, as well.  I trust very few people under the hood of my second biggest investments and I know I can trust Menke's to do the job right!
Many thanks to Joe Wiedrich and Brad MeNeely as well as to the Shop Owners, Mr. & Mrs. Menke's for raising and maintaining a standard for all other Auto Shops.
I recommend Menke's to all my friends!

  • I dropped off my Tire and they said they would call me when they Figured out what was wrong... they never did. But I Called them myself a few days later and they hadn't even looked at the tire. I had to wait another day for them to figure out what was wrong. They told me that I would need to replace the tire. they did that pretty quickly and the tire has worked great for me since.

  • Though sometimes you can have to wait for a while to have your tires replaced, on this visit the service was very prompt. The service technician was very courteous and professional. I shopped in the Sam's club for about 35 minutes before hearing my name called to pickup my car. I have been back once to have the tires balanced and rotated. After showing my original receipt for the tires, the technician pulled in my car, balanced the tires and rotated them in about 20 minutes as I watched from the waiting area.
Note: I had done research online for the brand and model tires I wanted. I had also checked online at to see if they carried the tires I wanted and if they were in stock at my local club before purchasing the tires.

  • It went great. I talked with Steve (the owner) he gave me his recommendations and he had new tires and brakes on by the end of the day. They did a full inspection and changed the tires and breaks in less than a day. I don't know how good the price was but the promptness, honesty, and quality made it worth every penny.

  • I was having problems with my car vibrating and pulling to the right so I took it to Kenny Kent Toyota and when I got it back it was worse then when I went in and I took it back and came out with same result.  I stopped in at Rise and they looked at it right away tolk me what the problem was and fixed what they could and in no time I was on my way.  Without the pull and shimming.

    I will be back.

  • I recently joined Angie's List...
I needed an alignment on my '98 minivan and the brakes were making lots of noise. I also recently bought and mounted 2 new Yokohama tires and knew I would need the other two done very soon. After reading the Angie's list feedback, I was impressed by Menke's and Thrifty's, so I called both for estimates. (To be fair, I knew Menke's had been nationally recognized for their service and facility, but I also knew they tend to be a bit higher in price. When I came across the review for Thrifty, I read that Jeff used to work for Menke's, which gave me immediate peace. Normally, I would have been skeptical based on the name and quot;Thriftyand quot;, but how else can you convey to your customer that you provide great service at a low-reasonable price? ).
Jeff provided quotes for alignment, brakes and tires, but made sure to let me know that it is usually preferred to have the same tire all around for treadwear and rotation and that he could not provide the same brand. His quote on brakes was much lower and his location is much more convenient for me, so I chose to bring it to him.
About 2 hrs after leaving the van, he called me back to let me know the alignment (and tire rotation) was done. Brakes had plenty of wear left, but there was a lot of dust in the rear drums that was probably causing the noise, so they blew it out. One of the mechanics informed Jeff that my door handle was loose (...My model Toyota has been notorious for the plastic handles breaking), so Jeff mentioned to me that another customer of his had bought metal handles on-line for less than 1/2 the price Toyota charges, and, if I wanted, he could install them for me.
I have several other cars and issues to resolve... I will be going back to Thrifty's. Thanks everyone for your feedback that led me to choose Thrifty's.

  • I usually like to deal with local companies instead of national chains but I needed tires for a trip the next day and it was late in the day. I came in real close to their closing time but they had no problem with that at all. And I was in and out quick. The manager was very accommodating and cordial. I could tell he was doing a bit of a sales job for a little higher priced tires than I was looking for and especially for the road hazard warranty( really guys, think about it...not worth it. By the time you would pay it for 4 tires you've already almost paid them for another tire just on the chance you might need one. Just save your money and buy another if you need it. Or pocket it if you don't), but he was not at all pushy...just asked me if I was sure about what I wanted a couple of times. I just wanted some relatively cheap tires for this older car and that's what I got.

  • I'm happy with the service.  Parts were comparable to other tire locations and the tires were only slightly more expensive, but since they had the part and could fix it the same day, the extra cost was worth it.

  • They are really good and have built a new facility also.  They have an automatic car wash facility, do small repairs and do detailing as well.  They run your car to the place and perform the services.  They are very nice and have actual camera monitors, with which you can watch the guy who does the work under your car.  In the waiting area they have a refreshment bar, television screens and a café.  It’s a nice pleasant place and I wait there usually while my car is being serviced.  I will continue to use them in future.
