  • It was a significant time before I received a call back after requesting a quote. He apologized and explained that he was very busy. I had already obtained my other quotes and made a decision at the time he called.

  • This was our first experience with this type and size of project and after consulting with several references on his list we decided to move forward with a contract.  We should have had an inclination from the beginning when his contract left out several specific details regarding the project.  In fact we submitted and requested an acknowledgement of amendments to the original contract which was never signed but verbally acknowledged.  The project began in late Fall/Early winter and continued through the Spring with several delays on the contractors part "due to incliminate weather" although his snow plowing business was in full swing. We had justifiable concernes with a subcontractor he had hired and when brought to the contractors attention he defended the sub rather than attempting to come to resolution with us.  Ultimately we fired his sub and had to hire our own subcontractor for HVAC work.  Unfortunately much of the errors in the original HVAC sub could not be corrected without substantial cost because the work had already been closed up with drywall.  Several other incidents of poor craftmanship arose that had we not been on site daily would have gone unnoticed for example insulation.  The sub contractor for insulation arrived and the lead foreman on our porject didnt bother to verify what they were installing in the walls was the incorrect R factor.  It was noted and brought to their attention by us and confirmed the wrong material was being installed which was later removed and correct insulation installed.  In addition the finish work both exterior and interior was horrible.  Supposedly the contractor had a family member who was excellent at trim work. the work was shoddy and often times the corners did not meet and the wood filler placed in the gaps was raised wiped off on other walls and woodwork requiring extensive sanding and reapplication.  the exterior trim leaves much to be desired along with vinyl siding starter strips and j channel which are coming loose and uneveen.  Overall we should have went with a contractor who specializes in remodels and cared about craftmanship. This was too large of a project for this contractor.

  • When I called this company to arrange for an estimate, the lady who answered was pleasent and said her husband would be the one doing the quotes but it would be 3 weeks before that could happen which would be at noon on June 28th.  When the 28th arrived, I received a call at 10:45 am from the person stating he could not make the appointment due to a flat tire on some of his equipment.  He suggested a weeknight evening the following week so i choose Wednesday at 5 pm. since he could not make Monday due to his daughter returning from a camp.  So at 5:45 pm Wednesday when he still hadn't shown up or called, I called him to find out the status of our appointment.  He explained he was very busy on a job and hadn't gotten my number from his wife to call. He then stated that they were running 4- to 6 weeks out on jobs.  So I asked if his company was interested in our business to which he replied, " Well we are very busy right now and are about 4-6 weeks out on jobs,so I guess we'll just need to leave it right there" and hung up which I interpreted  to mean the obvious.  I was and am puzzled as to what really happened with this whole sequence of events since I chose the company over several others based on other reviews

  • One of the springs/coils on our garage door broke and we could not raise our garage door. We called Overhead Door and an appointment was scheduled for a reasonable time. Two workers came to replace one visibly broken spring/coil on our garage door. As per recommendations, both sides were replaced. One of the men was training the other, which may have added a little extra time on the job, but the repair/replacement was completed. I was in the garage at the completion of the job when we tested the function of the garage door a few times. As Murphy's Law dictates, several hours after the workers left, the garage door began to malfunction. It would not open all the way and would stop about 6 inches short of the ground. I checked the sensors and they were functioning fine. I called Overhead Door and they immediately sent another worker to evaluate the problem. Acknowledging that our opener is old and may need replaced sometime in the near future, the professional made a few adjustments (no charge) to the motor/door and we have not had any problems with the door. Overhead Door installed this original door/opener many years ago. We could not have asked for better service.

  • All areas that were not to be painted were masked off. I noticed very little dust due to their careful control of vacuuming while grinding.
The workers very professional, polite & did a few things for us that wasn't in the contract, i.e. taking softener tank up steps(with hand truck)for us.
As a older woman, I felt completely at ease with these employees. Also, I am happy that they took a few extra minutes to explain processes when I questioned them about why or what they were doing.
The clean up was very good.  While work was in process, I heard very little noise.
I would be very happy to recommend this company or to have them back to do further work for us if need.

  • It was awful, this guy lied from the time we signed the contract to the last we met with him. He did not ever finish the job. However, he did keep our money. Our front porch sat on stilts for 6 months.... He didnt know what he was doing, however, told us he had 30
years experience. After the fact, unfortunately we found he was only in business 9 months according to the records of our state.
He does not have any type of contractors license. he lied about this to us. And of course we didnt check unitil there was a crooked cracked mess in the front & back of our house.
This guy is bad news, several people in our community have had the same issues. Please feel free to call me 260-248-8608 if you are considering using this joker. I will talk to you about our experiences.
We have consulted a engineer concerning this job, as well as bids of repair. Its not good.

  • overall i am very pleased with the experience and end result. Shortly after my initial call, Levy and Sons stopped by my house to measure and evaluate to be able to give a quote. they were great to work with. the only less-than-ideal part of the process was that they weren't able to install the door until 2-2.5 weeks after we selected the door we wanted because our door was delayed in arriving from warehouse. other than that, it was excellent - very pleased with the quality of the result. they replaced the framework for the garage door at my request for no additional cost. I purchased the garage door opener separately and they installed it. He was very supportive in answering my questions about openers prior to my purchase.

  • Carl Wells Construction is a reputable company owned and operated by Carl Wells.  Carl and his crew are very knowledgeable about the issues associated with remodeling older homes such as ours.  Carl Wells Construction has been working on various projects for us for the last three years, and we are very pleased with the work that's been done. We have not had a single problem occur with anything they've done for us.

Carl takes the time to really educate us about the many options we have in terms of repair/replacement, is happy to give us the time we need to make decisions, and is more than willing to answer questions about costs and give advice based on what's best for your project rather than what's easier for his crew or more profitable for him.  In fact, in our experience, he is more likely to suggest options for keeping costs down without sacrificing quality than he is to try to "sell" a more expensive option.  He and his crew are very easy to work with, and keep us informed of the progress of each project we undertake with his company.

We originally discovered Carl's company by word of mouth/recommendation from a mutual friend, and after working with his crew over the last three years, we trust Carl and his crew implicitly because of their honesty, reliability, excellent craftsmanship, attention to safety, and courteousness and concern for their customers.  They are a real pleasure to work with in just about every way.

The only negative comment I can think of is also a positive in some ways.  We joke that our projects will begin on "Carl Time" - what we mean by this is that Carl's crew is not a large one, and if another project runs over or the client changes their mind about something, Carl doesn't have another crew to send on to the next project - so there have been one or two instances in which the start of our project has been delayed by the fact that someone else's project is taking longer than expected.  But this is not a major issue in our eyes - we're happy to know that Carl cares enough about his work to do it right, even if changes to a project end up delaying the completion date.  What we have noticed is that once Carl's crew starts your project, you have their  complete attention until it's finished - this company doesn't try to juggle too many projects at once.  In short, we're reminded of the old saying, "Do you want it done cheaply, quickly, and well?  Please pick two."  We choose cheaply and well, and we're happy to wait for it a little while if we must.
