  • Contractor took old garage down in June ,busted out old driveway in Sept. Finally got appoval from town to start to build garage in Sept.23. Don't know how or why this took so long but it did,So finally he said he was going to dig footers for foundation . Normally in this town requirement is to go down 18 inches that's it, but he went down 4 to 5 feet when I asked him why he started yelling at me telling me he knew what he was doing and for me not to worry about it. I checkednhad other concrete cont. Come by they told me he didn't know what he was doing. This is all he got acomplished from Sept.23 to Nov.13. I got into heated screaming match the last day he was on job , his helper was sitting inl lawn chair & Rex was cleaning his trailer while nothing was being done to my garage. So we signed contract with him in June where he asked for 10,000. Dollars and really did not acomplish anything. He took 10 ,000 dollars from me and then in Nov. he wanted another 4,000. dollars still only thing he did was dig a trench around foundation witch was not done right . He kept trying to get money from me he said he bought garage kit for 5,500. from Menards and I checked and Menards said no order had been placed. He never produced any receipts showing me how he spent 10,000. dollars now he wanted 4 thousand more plus he wanted cash , he said if I gave him cash then he wouldn't charge me threw his normal company billing process. He told me if I didn't give him cash then he was going to charge me about 1500. dollars more. As time went by with him being here he he would tell me how he liked the bushes on the side of my house because him and his workers could hide in them and smoke pot. I thought to my wife no wonder nothings done he gets HIGH whenever he decided to work. That was another problem with him he wouldn't show up or answer his phone for weeks at a time. My feelings on this is I hope you folks dont continue to keep him on your web page, he lies, never does what he says, smokes drugs and what little work he did do was very slow.He tells you all kinds of good things he's going to do but never does them. He's a thief ,I gave him $10,000.dollars up frontbecause he said he needed the money to start job but could never show me receipts to see where money went then he would just make up B.S. and then go on defense and act mad so I wouldn't continue to ask about money. I'm saying this guy is no good he has my $10,000. , I hired a new contractor and he had to fix all of Rex's mistakes before he could build garage. Any help by you would be greatly appreciated. Thank You John O'Brien

  • We were looking forward to our new garage to be built. Unfortunately the local city fathers would not grant a work permit because of our lots dimensions. I chose not to fight for a zoning variance and cancelled the agreement with Danleys. I was prepared to fight for my down payment to be returned. Made one phone call and was told my deposit would be sent to me. As they promised in a short time received a check for the exact amount of deposit. I was impressed with their professionalism and would not hesitate using them again.

  • This whole process was a nightmare for me and my family. While I admit to being ignorant about dealing with the building process and certainly made my own mistakes in the process (having never done this before), I do not believe that STA did an adequate job, either with communication, timeliness nor the actual build. So many things went wrong at so many levels, it's difficult to know where to start.
First off, I did not get a time on the contract when the project would be completed by. I take blame in my ignorance, but also put blame on them for allowing that to slide.
When demo finally happened they left the materials sitting in my yard for weeks. We had talked about having my brother-in-law haul it to the recycler, but they said they would do it, so I agreed. Again, a miscommunication, where when I pressed them, they came back and said that I told them I would take care of it. But they didn't come out and remove it until I threatened to drop them and get someone else. (This seemed to be their modus operandi.) Finally they came out and removed the debris. They did subtract the recycling from the price, like they said they would.
Timeliness was the biggest factor. When they wouldn't come out often for weeks, I talked to Matt and told him specifically what I expected from him, which was simply a heads-up as to when they would be out there to do the work at least a day or two before they came. He agreed, but then never followed up with this. Also, there was one time when they weren't out for several weeks and I called up Matt and asked why they weren't out and when they were coming out. He said it was because I had unhooked the electrical extension cord running from the inside of my house (since I don't have an outside socket). Now, after talking to some other friends in the contracting industry, I even wonder what they are doing using my electricity to begin with, instead of them supplying their own generator.
They never showed me plans of what they were going to build.  Though I walked them through what I initially had, as the main structure was still standing after the burn, they did state that I'd get what I had before. I never did. Again, in hindsight, I realize I should have demanded this, and I take some blame in not doing so. When they were building the garage and had the main structure up I realized they had one door at 8' wide and one at 9' wide. When I looked at the contract, it said 9 ft doors. When I called to ask what was up, he said they were nine feet high. I said I had two 9 foot doors. Matt said they were spec'ed as 9 foot doors and there was nothing he could do about it.
They were also disrepectful of my neighbors, driving their truck through my neighbors yard to get to my garage. Which clearly did not please my neighbor. Good thing My neighbor and I have a good relationship or it would have been one more strain I didn't need.
Believe me when I say these were not by any means all of the problems we have had with them. The structure build itself is okay. Average work, nothing more. Though, now I'm noticing that the trim work wasn't nailed evenly so some gaps are starting to form, and there is black foam that is hanging down in a couple places where the roof meets the side, that I will have to get on a ladder and shove back up. Only a few months after the build.
They never finished clean up, nor put a handle on the side door and told me they were done with the job and were not coming back out. So I knocked a few hundred off the bill for me to buy and install a door handle and personally clean up around the area. I thought I was being kind with that. I guess they felt a little guilty as Matt came back and told me he was willing to knock off even more.
I definitely would not hire these guys again.
