Radon Testing reviews in Bloomington

  • This was my first every home inspection, and I would use Mark again in a heartbeat! (In fact, the house I was purchasing fell through, so I will be using Mark again soon, I'd imagine!) Mark was the consummate professional and extremely thorough - I felt like I knew the house inside and out by the time he was done! In addition, as a first-time homebuyer, Mark gave me advice for home upkeep as the inspection progressed, was great at answering questions, and has been extremely helpful since the inspection, answering follow up questions and offering suggestions for various appraisals I needed post-inspection.

  • The inspection went very well. Mark reviewed the house and explained to me all the potential issues. He ranked issues from slight concern to more critical. He provided recommendations for problems. He also recommended other professionals (electricians, plumbers, contractors, etc.) to help remedy problem areas.

  • It went really well. They were very understanding of the way I wanted to piping routed to minimize the noise that we'd hear from the radon fan inside the house. They were very professional and took care to make the visible parts of installation neat and clean. I enjoyed working with them and would hire them again.

  • Mr. Bishton was able to schedule the inspection within a couple of days of contact. He was much more thorough than any other inspection service I have used. His report is thorough, easy to understand, and provides suggestions for improving the property in question. This is the second time I have used Benchmark. The cost of service also included radon testing.

  • Went well - radon level mitigated with the first attempt.  We were warned that since it was an old house (built 1937), they did not know of the structure of the foundation under the concrete slab so that a single suction point may not have been adequate.  However, the single point worked fine.

  • Mark is that rare service provider who does exactly what he said he would do - something we always expect, but rarely get.  He was responsive to email inquiries, was specific and clear about his time and commitment, provided explicit description of the work he would do and was early for the appointment to do the work. He was also very generous with his time in explaining not only the what, but why it was important, how it got that way, what we could do to keep it from going bad and what we ought to do to maintain it in future. In short, we got an inspection and also an education in keeping a house in good order. If you know anything, you will appreciate his attention to detail. If you don't know anything about houses or systems in houses, you need Mark even more.

  • Damon, the installation technician, called before his scheduled arrival time to report that due to weather he would be about an hour late. This was not any problem. He showed up as scheduled. He did an excellent job with the installation. Answered all my questions completely. He was very professional. He did an excellent job cleaning up after the installation. I am very pleased with the entire installation and process.

  • When it comes to home inspections, Mark's is more like an interrogation. He put the house on the witness stand and ruthlessly cross-examined it until it gave up every secret and broke down sobbing. Inside and out, top to bottom, on the roof and in the crawl space - he didn't miss anything. Mark explains and teaches, suggests and advises, and thoroughly answers any questions. He provides a detailed and very thorough report that clearly separates the major issues from the minor annoyances. We bought the house, made several major repairs he suggested, and found even the hidden problems exactly as he predicted. Since then we've contacted him several times for advice and questions, and he has always been extremely helpful. We couldn't have been more satisfied. He is well worth every penny.

  • The service we got was great and I would recommend the company. The contractor who did the work was very professional, experienced, and informative. I had been considering an additional collection point because of our complex foundation configuration; however, the contractor advised us to try just the two points (one in the laundry room and one in the crawl)  to see how it went -- with no extra service charge if they needed to return to add another in the rec room. I am so glad we heeded his advice.  The third collection point would have been more expensive for us, and it would have been an eyesore in our rec room.  After the work, the radon level went down from an average of 7.0 -7.5 to an average of 0.5 in the rec room, and the space still looks great. We are quite satisfied.
I will add a small caution about the company's' processes,  though. When we initially called to inquire about the service, we found that the company doesn't come to homes to give estimates. In the initial call, a prospective customer talks to a central sales person who estimates the cost based on the customer's description of the house and the situation. Then, they email an appointment confirmation and proposal describing the work. On the appointed day, the contractor arrives to do the work.  This way of doing business does reduce the overall cost to the customer, I am sure. However, in our case part of the total work we had done was to encapsulate the crawl space -- and the information that I got from the sales rep about what that service would entail was inaccurate. Thus, I contracted with another company to do the encapsulation. When the SWAT service person came and found the crawl space already encapsulated, he said that SWAT would have done the same job. It all turned out well, and we were happy with both companies, but the early communication with SWAT was awkward.

  • We are very happy with his work.  First, we really appreciated him for inspecting only a few days after we contacted him by altering his original schedule to meet a deadline we had.  He spent almost 4 hr for his inspection.  His report not only described details but also was easy to understand why and when we need to take care of things he found, using color marks.  This is our third time to purchase a house, so we knew that inspector?s report can be either hard to follow with many special terms or less detailed (or both) and found that his report was very impressive in comparison to others we saw in past.  Moreover, he repeatedly suggested us contact him if we have a question anytime in future, which we also appreciate since we would like to fix things over years.  We highly recommend him.  Thank you, Mark!
