I told the groomers that my dog has become sometimes difficult to groom in his old age -- he's 15. They said that they could have a second person assist with the grooming. They did not tell me there would be a charge, but I can understand why there would be one -- they just should have told me in advance. When my husband took our dog in, he gave some specific instructions since this is the first time we've used Canine Companions. He asked that our dog's anal sacs be expressed. That is free with grooming at PetSmart, but we learned when we got the bill that it costs $24.00 at Canine Companions. That is very expensive. If they had told my husband this when he took our dog in, we wouldn't have had that done. When my husband went to pick up our dog, they said they were not able to finish his grooming, but we were still charged the full price. We were paying extra for the "deluxe" package, but he didn't even receive a full basic grooming. I called the next day to express my displeasure, but I was not given a refund for the services that were NOT provided.

    The Continental
I cannot recommend this dog groomer too highly. I had a badly matted poodle mix, whom I had taken to another groomer about two months previously. That groomer had returned my dog to me with many of the mats around her face and ears still intact, claiming that my dog was too difficult to handle and showing me scratches on her arms to prove it. In contrast, the groomer at the Continental, who was named Rebecca, had no trouble grooming my dog, although I had warned her to be careful. She said that all it took was someone who was slow and gentle. My dog came back to me calm, clean, happy and impeccably well groomed. Rebecca was even able to get inside my dog's ears to clip the hair there, which was badly needed but had been hard for even a vet to do because my dog is sensitive around her ears because of previous ear infections. Rebecca gave me a time estimate of three hours, but called two hours later to say the dog was ready. The grooming salon was even able to work us in right away when I called. Really, this is a top-notch place with a very kind, sensitive, responsive and gentle staff.

This was the second time Bethany English groomed our wire hair fox terrier, Jilly Bean. I used to groom my former dogs myself (very unprofessionally), but not this dog. Although Jilly is well behaved, playful, affectionate, and cuddly, she is also extremely nervous about life in general (car rides, thunder, rain on skylights, being touched unexpectedly, and being brushed) and she nips when you least expect it.
Jilly nipped at Bethany the first time she was groomed, so before this second visit, I discussed the above with Bethany, and also that our dog likes other dogs, but is afraid of large or aggressive dogs. This info was important because dogs are allowed to play with each other at the salon when they are between grooming activities. Bethany loves dogs and wants them to have a lovely time at Doggie Styles, so she recommended that I bring Jilly in on a day when other dogs are not present. I also sedated Jilly Bean before taking her in. Afterwards Bethany laughingly told me about how things had gone, including a story of how Jilly kept grabbing up little doggie toys as they walked from one grooming area to the next, with one toy falling out of Jilly's mouth as she grabbed the next. (Yes, that's my dog!).
When I picked the dog up, Bethany spent 10 or 15 minutes chatting with me about Jilly's experience at the spa and her nervousness/nippiness, which Bethany attributes to a generalized fearfulness and not to pain at being touched or groomed. Bethany gave me some information to pass along to Jilly's vet for consideration, and she told me about a humane "basket muzzle," available at Petco, which would allow us to bathe and brush our dog safely. (Brushing is necessary, not just cosmetic.)

We have lived in Bloomington for less than one year and do not have friends or family in this area.  So when we went on vacation last week we had no choice but to kennel our dogs.  My golden retriever and BMD had received grooming services previously, which were very expensive and not to breed standards, especially compared to my previous grooming experiences.  Our 3 dogs were dropped of on 4-18-13 to be boarded for 8 days while we went on vacation to Jamaica.  I had to pay extra for the kennel with the patio, since they told me they don't take the dogs outside unless the go to the daycare, which was also extra $6/day/dog.  I opted for both extras.  When we were on vacation they called my husband's phone to inform us that our BMD had a cut on her toe and was treated by the vet with antibiotics.  When he went to pick up the dogs on Sat. our bulldog was lathargic and very sick but the staff told him that it was just a cold.  Upon further examination I could tell he had severe weight loss, coughing, green mucus discharging from his nose and eyes and continued to be lathargic.  I immediately returned him to the kennel and demanded to see the vet.  They staff informed me the vet would not be in today but they will call her.  I returned home and they called me back to and said the vet would come in at 1pm to see Leo.  The vet weighed him upon arrival to discover he had lost 9 lbs.  She was concerned with his laboured breathing and lethargy.  Dr. Victor immediately gave him an antibiotic injection and antibiotics to go home with.  I will say I was impressed with Dr.Victor's care and concern but she was the only one at that place that actually did anything for my dog.  This was serious neglect #1) the owner was not informed of weight loss and illness of pet #2) staff improperly diagnosed my dog with a "cold" and failed to seek veterinary care for an illness that seriously endangers the heath of the dog.  I had to demand he be seen and if I hadn't and just taken him home the vet confirmed that it may have lead to pneumonia!  Please do not trust your pets to these people!  Awful, awful care!

    DOGGIE STYLES
Bethany at Doggie Styles is very nice and sweet and overall does a very nice job, but she cut one of their ears wrong. It is no big deal because their hair grows. I have been looking for a new groomer, but I would go back to her because she is nice and kind to my pets which is more important to me than the haircut. She was very easy to make an appointment with, but I did think the price was a little high considering the look. I do think the price is comparable to other places. I think she doesn't have as much experience as some other groomers, but she does seem professional. I think her prices are a little steep.

    Whitehall Animal Country Club, LLC
I looked around for kennels and was impressed with Whitehall Country Club.  The owner was very nice, he showed me around and I thought it was clean and well kept.  I felt confident our dog would be fine for a week with them.  When we picked up our dog a week later, she was obviously distraught and whined and was out of sorts.  I figured it was due to her being away from us for the first time.I immediately had her groomed and discovered she had bruises around her neck.  I don't know what could of made those bruises.  But, I was so disappointed that our dog was treated so rough.  I will never use Whitehall Country Club again.

    HOWL 'N DOG INN
I had to leave my dogs for the longest time ever and it went fine. As a nervous dog-mom, Karen and Tony were nice enough to answer my emails and let me know that the pups were fine when I was worried.

    GROOMING BY LORI
SCHNAUZER GROOMING CAN BE TRICKY AND AFTER A RATHER BAD EXPERIENCE WITH A GROOMER WORKING OUT OF MY VET'S OFFICE, I TURNED TO ANGIE'S LIST TO FIND SOMEONE ELSE. I CALLED LORI AND SHE RETURNED MY CALL PROMPTLY. JAKE HAS HAD 2 GROOMINGS WITH LORI. SHE IS PROFESSIONAL, ON-TIME, KIND AND DOES A FABULOUS JOB. THE FACT SHE TAKES ONLY A FEW CLIENTS A DAY IS A REAL PLUS IN THE QUALITY OF HER GROOMING AND THE TIME SHE TAKES WITH JAKE. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER. SHE DOES AN EXCELLENT JOB.
