  • First they bargained with me, I had no trim or any doors up, so the price went from 3400., to 3000. I realize the floors are very old and can't be perfect, but I feel they could have got a few dark stains out, all the tiny holes were not patched. They also left a powdery saw dust mess on the porch. All in all I feel they did a good job, they came fast and did the job in 3 days. You can see the before and after in my pictures.

  • Flooring really well done. Carpet worn out within 2 years. Carpet then ripped. Contractor sent out a carpet representative to look at the tear. He told me it was indeed ripped in a 11 inch straight line. Sent a repairman out to fix. Repairman could not fix, stating the carpet was installed improperly and glued to the pad. Owner then contacted me stating that my dog caused the tear and texted me saying "You will get nothing from me...how about that?". This was a blatant lie, as the first two gentleman (carpet dealer and repairman) stated it was the quality and poor installation. Besides that, my dog can not rip the carpet in an 11 inch straight line (without a knife)(he has no thumbs and weighs 11 pounds). Saddest part is owner is abusive....and I tipped her $250 for this job. Now when you see the price you will realize that the adage "you get what you pay for" is true, and that there are some contractors who will not stand by their work. Be careful! As I said, I like the flooring, so no complaints there. I just should have hired a carpet company (contractor did not replace pads, telling me I didn't need them)(like a total idiot, I believed her), paid a little more, and would be set for 10 years. Now the carpet will be replaced again within one year. But this time I at least know to buy padding...

  • Awful!!!  We had a 5 page letter of all the things that went wrong.  They had to tear up the new bamboo floors THEY just installed because the installer did not lay them correctly.  Apex denied they were installed incorrectly until WE called Cali Bamboo and Cali Bamboo told them how to install the floors correctly.  The dishwasher was installed incorrectly.  Apex contractor screwed the dishwasher into the cabinets which caused damage to the door of the dishwasher and also my cabinets.  A new dishwasher had to be ordered and a new one installed by someone else.  We had wrought iron balusters installed.  And had to call Apex back out 5 times before they were completed correctly.  They installed a new toilet in our half bath and now come to find out, it was installed incorrectly and we now have water damage in our basement and mold.  Apex's insurance has called our homeowners insurance to file a claim.  We were told they do not cover mold damage.  This was and still continues to be the remodel from h*** and we, the homeowners, can't get anything done to fix this problem.  Apex won't return our phone calls.

  • Kirt and his team did a great job installing our hardwood floor.  Kirt was flexible and worked with our renovation schedule.  Kirt and his team answered all our questions, and helped us in picking a stain color.  Kirt kept us well informed every step of the
    way, and he was always on time and finished when he said he would.  When we moved the refrigerator too soon and
    damaged the finish, Kirt and Rob came and repaired it for us.  Everyone who has been to our house has loved
    the new hardwood floors.  We feel confident in recommending Osborne flooring.

  • Everything went wonderfully well.  It was a large job that took 51/2 months. The end result was truly our dream house.  Jon and his staff were very professional, courteous, and any calls were returned the same day or the next day.  Melissa helped me make selections when it was too overwhelming and gave me good decorating advice.  She also went with me on appointments to select marble, hardware, lighting and all the bathroom fixtures.  The work was done well and to my liking which is hard, because I am a perfectionist.  Here is a great example of how much Guyco wants to please their customers.  Jon and I were discussing the bathtub in my master bath.  I thought it should be moved over 3/8" to be centered under the tub deck.  I will admit, an ordinary person would never look at it and say 'It's not centered'.  I was going back and forth about whether he should do it, because it would mean undoing the work that was already done.  He said to me 'If you want it moved, we'll move it'.  I finally decided to move it and he did it happily.  We would definitely hire GuyCo again.

  • They first called to set up an consultation to measure the house and make sure we we're purchasing the correct amount of carpet and laminate to meet the job requirements. They scheduled out about a week and a half out. They came out yesterday to install the laminate throughout the living room and the hall way. They we're fast, efficent and professional the entire time.
    Two guys came out. They also pointed out some areas that the previous ceramic tile installer had not installed straightly, which in turn, was going to make the laminate install a bit more tricky, with the borders.
    Overall, I went over every inch of laminate and couldn't find a single spacing. Which tells me two things. Not only does Armstrong make a great laminate flooring, but Ultimate Home Services did a great job as well.
    I would highly recommend Ultimate Home Services to anybody looking to have some floors installed, whether it be carpet or laminate/hardwood! They let my wife work from home as she is an event planner.They also have good taste in music for what it is worth and kept their music low while they worked!
    I will update this post with photos when I get the chance with Before and after photos!

    Update - The carpet install went flawless as well. Both men we're friendly, courteous and even helped me move a heavy fish tank outside. They helped me rip up the final bedroom because the fishtank was in there and I couldn't get it moved without major help. Thje carpet is snug against the borders and meets my laminate perfectly! I decided to go with a stainmaster pet carpet and pet friendly pad since we have a puggle and shih tzu.

    They even offered to haul away the old carpet and padding for free! We bought lunch for the laminate installers and bought lunch for the carpet installers as well.  Overall fantastic experience!!!! 11/10!!!

  • McCool's installed a new hardwood floor in our home in 2012. The quality of the installation seemed to be good initially. However, we started seeing a couple of spots where the boards were lifting on the corners and separating. We inquired about the repair and warranty, and the installer was not as responsive as we had hoped. We also had an upcoming open house for our son's graduation and were concerned about the appearance of the floor. That's when utilized Angie's List to express our concerns.

    As it turned out, the owner, Doug McCool was not aware of our issue. However, when he learned of it, both he and his store manager in Avon got involved to ensure that the repair was done before the open house and that it was covered under warranty. I truly appreciated Doug McCool's follow up call and encourage anyone who has concerns with their products or services to contact him directly as he is interested in making sure that all of his customers are happy.

  • Our fridge quit working and defrosted on laminate flooring which resulted in water damage.  We decided that we would not only replace the kitchen area laminate but also remove the carpeting in the living room and replace it with the same hardwood.  Because the entry had the same laminate as the kitchen, it also then had to be replaced.  We received estimates from several different places, and we decided to go with Big Dog because they had the flooring we liked the best (a type of wood called sapele).  We spoke with Suzan and Chip to determine prices and install dates.  Installation was set for September because we were also coordinating a new patio door install. 

    The installation was set for two days.  We called the day before to see what time the crew would arrive.  We were told around 8 am.  They didn't show up until after 8:30 with no phone call explaining why they were late.  The crew consisted of Mike, Jesse, John, and another guy.  Mike appeared to be the leader.  They immediately came in and started moving furniture and setting up their equipment.  After they had installed a section, we checked on the progress and discovered that they were going around our kitchen island instead of removing the island and installed underneath.  When questioned, Mike got very nasty and said that our cabinet would be destroyed if he tried to take it up.  I explained that Chip had said installing underneath was not a problem.  Jesse offered to call Chip, and when he returned, he indicated that Chip agreed with Mike's assessment.  Later that day, they had to move the fridge onto the new flooring and when returning it to its original location, put huge gouges across the floor.  They tried to fix the damage by sawing the already installed boards down the middle and shoving newly cut boards into the spots.  After they left, we discovered that there were multiple ends that had buckled up and the whole area was not nailed down.  We also marked several spots that needed to be filled in and one board that was only a couple in from the current edge that had a huge chip in it that needed to be replaced. 

    They show up on the second day to finish (late again).  Before allowing they to start working, we discussed the issues with them.  Mike was beyond rude and unprofessional, so much so that we were ready tell him to get out of our house and find someone else to finish the job.  Once again, they indicated they had discussed these issues with Chip and that Chip had given the ok to proceed as they saw fit.  They ended up tearing up a large section of the kitchen floor to replace the damage they did when moving the fridge.  They grumbled the entire time and made us empty out the fridge.  This wouldn't have been an issue, but we were never told that it would be required and had no ice and not enough coolers.  Considering that we had just restocked from the defrosted fridge, we were not pleased. 

    At the end of the second day, the entire floor was installed.  They said we could not put anything on the floor without having felt on the bottom.  Again, this is the first time we had heard anything to that effect, and they made it sound like we had picked an inferior product.  They put our furniture back, picked up their stuff, and left.  We started looking around at the details after they left.  The following are just a few of the things we discovered:  did not caulk around quarter-round and baseboards, did not replace some of the damaged/chipped boards in the living room, did not clean up all their trash and/or vacuum the floors, damaged our entertainment center beyond repair with multiple scratches across the top, scratched other furniture pieces, failed to put the pins back in the doors, and melted the centerpieces that had candles when they placed them outside in the sun on our deck.  Also, no one mentioned all the indoor sawing that was involved, so we had covered nothing. Everything was covered with sawdust.  We were even shaking sawdust out of our toaster.  We brought these issues to Suzan's attention on Friday.  She sounded shocked and indicated we should have called while the install was going on.  Frankly, the crew said they were talking to Chip, so we didn't feel like we needed to call too.  We discussed the issues with Chip on Monday.  Chip was truly appalled and gave us a partial refund ($700) plus a gift certificate to a restaurant.  We were happy with his response, but the fact is, we never should have had these problems.  He also had another crew return to our house at a time convenient to us to fix the dents and caulk.  Over the holidays (when decorating), we have discovered that they actually busted the entire hinge on our entertainment center. 

    We did find out from the guys who finished the caulk that Chip fired the other crew.  The second team was the team originally scheduled to do our install, but one of them had a death in the family, so Chip hired the others.  I wish that he would have called and rescheduled.  We would absolutely give them an "F" for the entire installation experience, but Chip gets an "A" for his response.  They were the highest price estimate that we received, but picked them based on the previous Angie's List reviews.  Despite loving our floors, we would not use them again.
