At the start it went well. His team framed quickly. All of his workers were polite and trustworthy. The project started in August and we were able to move back in (albeit with covered floors, no granite or plumbing yet in kitchen and painting unfinished.) As soon as we moved in things slow down quickly. We were told it was because of the holiday and that made sense. By December 1 We had the kitchen in working order and while they were still things to be finished including painting and final details we were happy with the work. The problems really started after the holiday when we couldnt get them back to finish the projects that remained. While punctuality had been a problem in the past, it didnt bother us too badly as eventually they showed up and got the work done. However after the holiday we could not get them back. By this time the epoxy they had put in the garage had completely peeled and they had never finished putting the flooring on top of this tiered system we Had created in the garage. To date the top tier isnt still plywood versus the flooring it was supposed to be and the garage floor has never been fixed. These items seemed small along with a few other things that we had wanted to get finished on the inside so we were patient for a long time. Every few months I would call or email Martin and he would promise that he would get out here asking me to understand how busy he was on some other job but he would never come. Once or twice he came by himself to see what needed to happen but never brought anybody to fix anything. To date all of these items remain undone. Things got more serious however when the tile they had laid in the new master bath started getting really loose. This tile was difficult for them from the gate and they had had to redo it once before we moved in the prior Thanksgiving. They of course blame the type of tile and never took ownership for the fact that they could never get it to line up properly. Martin Came once To fix one of the loose or tiles promising to return for the others but we have not seen him since. I have contacted him several times not so much for the work in the garage that was never finished or the trouble with the tiles in the master bath but rather for the front walkway and the stone patio in the back as the mortar they placed cracks all the time loosening the slates. At this moment in time I have pots on my front step so that people will not step where the slate has no mortar at all . I have had one stone guy out here before to fix it and another one coming this summer. Both have said the best they can do is patch it but what really needs to happen according to both of them is to rip it up and do it again as it was done so poorly. Despite all these issues eventually we just gave up trying to get Martin to stand behind his work and we chalked it up to lesson learned and resolved to be smarter in any future remodel. That all changed this summer. Starting tomorrow I need to replace the frames of every single new window and transom Martin and his team put in because they used interior wood and all of them have rotted. I will also have to do this on the three sliding glass doors as those frames as well have rotted. In addition the soffits were not vented properly and there is much rotting and a hole of about a foot on one side. In addition to fixing the frames around the windows we will also have to fix the vents in the soffits as well as the hole and tonight we will find out how much damage it would have caused to the new roof. Based on the lifting of some of the shingles there is at least some damage. Im sure hoping I dont need to replace the roof. What has me so upset is not just the fact that the work was not done properly but rather but he refuses to communicate and fix what shouldve been properly been done originally. This was an extensive remodel. It was not cheap. We were never late with payments. And even at the end when things were slowing down when asked for final payment because he needed the money to pay his guys we gave it to him. In hindsight this was absolutely a foolish decision on our part but we really liked Martin as a person and we trusted him as a contractor. Its a unfortunate that the latter also turned out to be a mistake. I would not recommend using Martin for his team for any project. While I think they are capable of good work if any mistakes are made they will never stand behind it and you will be responsible financially for fixing any errors they may have made.

    Hilton Contractors Co
We hired Kevin Hilton, aka Hilton Designs, aka Hilton Contractors, to perform work in our home: replace interior doors, replace trim and door casings, install exterior doors, rebuild bookcases, buff and coat wood floors, and paint doors/trim/a couple of rooms. Kevin and Destinee Hilton are a pair of grifters who oversell and under-deliver on everything they touch. We paid a total of almost $30,000 for this work. What we were left with was this: most of the work unfinished, finished work of mostly very poor quality, and $6,000 of damage to our home. The exterior doors that he installed had to be completely removed and reinstalled - he had not braced them correctly, and there wasn't even any flashing under them! Our wood floors were damaged to the point they will have to be refinished. Our bookcases that he "updated" had to be completely torn out and redone. New cabinet doors that he put on the family room cabinets literally fell off the hinges! He painted some of the woodwork the cream color we had selected, and painted other woodwork white. He completely ruined our utility sink, destroyed our interior French doors, smudged wood filler all over the aluminum on the exterior doors, used interior-grade wood to case the outside of the exterior doors and then used interior paint to paint it. They painted the windows and every piece of hardware on every window is covered with paint. I could go on and on, but here is the bottom line: this young man and his "designer" wife do not have the skills or the temperament to be running ANY kind of business. When they first started to work, they showed up in the morning and worked 5-6 days a week. As the project went on, their work days started about noon or 1:00 p.m., they left after working 3-4 hours, and only worked maybe 3 days a week. Kevin's behavior became increasingly erratic - nervous, jumpy, constantly demanding advances on final payment, and frequently berating us for not showing enough "gratitude" for all the work he was doing. When the project started to fall apart, he didn't show up for work for a couple of days, then came to our home and said he was "quitting this contract" because we had "abused" him, "stolen his passion," and not showed "enough gratitude" for his work. He had cashed all of the checks we had issued, and refused to refund anything for the unfinished work or the damages. He has ignored emails from us and letters from our attorney. Do not go anywhere near Kevin and Destinee Hilton! If you mention poor online reviews to him, he will have lots of ways to explain them away, but dig deeper. Go online and pay the $30 to get a background check on him. I wish I had.

Everything went extremely smoothly. Mark was very responsive with the estimate and scheduling the work. He was on time and tidied up at the end of each day. His finished product looks great, and he also gave recommendations for a painter to complete the look.

This will be the 2nd time we are working with Nick. They completely built out our finished basement with bath room and awesome custom made bar. He is by far a true craftsman with out question. Nick and his crew do fantastic work. Very clean professional, he handles all permits design and blue prints, so we are able to focus on the things we wanted to incorporate in the basement. Nick is quick on his feet to accommodate all are requests and concerns. He was great keeping up with all the changes we made along the way sorry Nick : ) We are so pleased with everything that was done. All I can say if you are planning on doing any type of home remodeling don't hesitate you won't be disappointed. We will not use anyone else from this point forward to do anything on our home. Nick's relationships with his sub contractors is great. Funny thing we hired them 1 year ago to remodel upstairs and all the same guys came to do the work. We got his name from a friend who uses Nick and he told us who worked on his house over 8 years ago and he had the same sub contractors then as he does now. That told me so much about Nick and his crew. We never had to worry who was in our home. Outstanding craftsmanship all the way around they really take pride in workmanship. Great job Nick and team.....

Mark carefully assessed the work to be done and performed the modifications to the half wall between our family room and the eat in area of our kitchen. He was focused on minimizing damage to the existing wall and surrounding area. He cleaned up as the job proceeded to minimize dust. He also repaired a column on our entry porch. He was very professional, informative and friendly in all aspects of the work. We are very satisfied with all aspects of this job and highly recommend his services. We would definitely call Mark for any subsequent jobs.

Called for a quote on a smaller job for a few downspouts that needed to be redone after some external house work. Got a hold of someone on the initial call, and was advised to send pictures to his email address prior to getting a quote. Was advised that I'd receive a quote shortly after receipt of the emailed photos. Well, that was a week ago; no further follow-up and on calling the company again, no one picks up. If you have to chase them down for a quote, what kind of service is going to happen if you actually pick them for a job. I can't imagine how they got the super service award at Angie's list. I was contacted by the company and was given a quote on the day this review was posted

    Great Way Construction
Adam was so trustworthy and the work completed was to my specifications on the first job, that I didn't risk using another company for consecutive jobs. I really liked how each morning, we reviewed the work to be done that day. Each evening, I could review the progress and the area was cleaned up. Adam and his team were great about making suggestions that would ease the typical issues related to construction as well as any other design or practical obstacles that may have popped up. If I had a question or was concerned about something, Adam would stop the work and we would discuss until I received all of the information I needed to make a decision. Then work would resume right away. One example of problem solving was my first floor hardwood flooring. My house is 30 years old, and the previous owners had installed hardwood over linoleum and other odd things. For cost purposes, I did not want to replace everything f I didn't have to. Each doorway on the first floor had a different floor height on either side. When adding my addition that included feathering in the new hardwood floors and refinishing the existing floors, the team did such an amazing job of matching, feathering, leveling and refinishing the whole first level, my floor looks amazing and you could never tell what they started with. Also, Adam was great about sticking to timeframes and would adjust the work to be done each day as needed, to accommodate the city re: permit reviews and delivery delays etc. in order to keep the project moving. I had Adam and his crew in my house for a number of months, and I am thankful each day for the work they did. I can't say enough about how much I trusted them to do the work correctly, safely and make it look nice. Every detail was meticulous, including the permit work, which can be time-consuming. All things that I found very important. I love the functionality and the beauty of my home and have not had any issues. The fact that I had this team work on multiple consecutive projects should speak volumes. I wouldn't even consider contacting anyone else!

    Castle Painting
We are absolutely thrilled with the work Castle did on our house. The carpenters did an excellent job, even surpassing our expectations! The painters followed immediately and also did a fabulous job. Everyone on the Castle team was skilled, hardworking and thoughtful. While not an inexpensive job, the cost was competitive with others and feel it was a good value. Thanks to Rick and Castle Painting's great work, our house looks brand new! We highly recommend them! We wish Angie's list still had a Page of Happiness because the job they did for us is A+++.

    Hilton Contractors Co
DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY under any circumstances. Kevin's work was so poor quality that I ended up having to pay for a new contractor to fix his shoddy work and replace many sub-par materials equal to about 1/3 of the total I spent with Kevin. First is his utter lack of professionalism, time management skills, or business-savvy. He overpromises and under-delivers on everything from the length of time the job will take, to what time he will arrive, to the quality of the work he will do. He many times told me I "should be grateful for the work he was doing", as though we weren't in a contract and I wasn't paying him for said work. Second, the quality of his work is severely inconsistent, ranging from mediocre when he's taking his time to abysmal, relying on others to fix the errors he's making in haste. Nearly all the cuts he made for any carpentry work he did were too short, and rather than redoing the work, he shimmed things in or left huge visible gaps he said could be covered with putty and paint. In many cases, he even used materials that were only rated for indoors - on my OUTDOOR PATIO - simply so he wouldn't have to go to another store to find the proper materials. A perfect example is that he used fiberboard base trim and shoe on the outdoor patio, which would have disintegrated in the first rain. Net-net: If I thought I could sue Kevin to recooperate my costs from hiring a new contractor, replacing materials, and because of his utter breach of contract, I would. The least I can do is warn others: Please, please do not make the same mistake I made in hiring him.
