Water Mold Fire Restoration of Chicago
I resently purchased a foreclosed home. The basement was a complete mess and had mold growing on the walls and ceiling. Although it was a larger project they were able to get it done in a timely manner. After they were able to rid my home of mold they refinish my basement just the way I wanted it! Thanks WMF

They allowed the chemical they used to remediate the mold to drip on our carpeting, which bleached out the color. They told us that they would take care of this -- but their "fix" did not work and the stains came back. They never returned our follow up phone calls or contacted us again. We have since been told that the owner went to California and he business has new owners. Meanwhile, we had to replace $600 in damaged carpeting.

Paul Davis Restoration of DuPage County
I have never written a review about any company in my entire life but I am going to write one about this company. I would suggest you stay FAR AWAY form this company and find ANY other company besides this one. My experience with Richard Kramer...Paul Davis Restoration has been horrible. There are several Paul Davis companies so to be clear I am talking about the one in Naperville IL...My neighbors had a fire in their home.. connected to them because we are a condo led the smoke right into my house and it was horrible. It damaged just about everything. The cleaning they did was horrible to say the least. Was charged for HEPA vacuuming..their "equipment" of a total of $3500.00 for 12 rooms..I do not even have 12 ROOMS...they came for about 4 days from 9 to 3 with an hour lunch...I came home the first day from work and it seemed NOTHING was done..I was told they cleaned my tile twice and then steam cleaned it...NONE of this is true...My tile is still dark with smoke and soot. My lights were never cleaned, no one ever went into my attic like he said he did...he said he cleaned out the vents...he did not.. my son's wall was cracked in half in certain areas...had to come out twice to fix that soon as the painters left...whatever "mud" they put on it to fix it came off.... he said new shelves...nope...same shelves and are still yellow....none of this was my 1300 sq foot condo i got new paint and carpet and that's it...the paint is already starting to come off the is this possible??for $20,000....TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS was as if the insurance adjuster was on his side and agreed with everything he did even though it was fraudulent. He said he was a "preferred" contractor with Nationwide...that is NOT TRUE...they left their ladders here for 3 weeks...the chemicals that the garbage company will not take...sitting in front of my house...Please I am just telling everyone....LOOK them up and look into this company... If you search hard you will find many was seriously one of the worst experiences of my life. To top it all off when I did not like his work or complained that he seemed to have LIED about several things...he said and I quote " You have gone over a line with me and I will NOT be returning any of your texts...your words are mean spirited unfounded and off base"...I mean can you imagine?? HE IS DOING WORK FOR ME...MY HOUSE AND HE TALKS AS IF I HAVE OFFENDED HIM BY STATING MY COMPLAINTS....The weirdest thing in the world...My so called "mean spirited" texts were saying you are not doing the job properly and have lied to me on many occasions...sounds like a normal thing for a person to say when you are NOT doing the job properly and have LIED on many occasions!!!

This company never installed addition soffit vents which they said was a contributing cause for the attic mold. They also nerve provided certification that the mold was re-mediated. Have tried to call them multiple times. They never answer the phone and never return messages. I even drove to their address and the door was locked and mail on the entry floor. I just hope they are not out of business.

The DKI team was extremely helpful, communicative and hard working throughout the entire process. They arrived very quickly after the initial call informing them of the damage, competed all the necessary clean up within a few hours the same night, and met the overall deadline of the entire work project. Rob was our contractor and main contact. He was extremely helpful throughout the entire process, kept me in the loop of the project progresss and even provided feedback on ideas and or upgrades we were contemplating based on his expertise and experience in other homes. Although, the reason why we needed DKI's services was not a positive one, their crews turned it into one by their amazing customer service, extremely hardworking staff and terrific craftsmanship. I would absolutely recommend their services to others and choose them for services in the future.

Part of their work included removing old insulation in our attic where they found mold and removing the mold. They left half of the attic insulation in place, When they carried the chemical used to treat the mold up our stairs to the second floor, it dripped on our carpeting an left more than a dozen spots where it bleached the color out of the carpeting. They did return to complete the work in the attic -- but, in my opinion, their work was sloppy. (Maybe this is the nature of adding blown in insulation?). We are still waiting for them to have a company come out to fix the damaged carpeting. Once that has been done (or not), I will update/revise this review.

    Preferred Restoration
I talked to several mold remediation and attic insulation companies and decided that it would be best to have one company take care of both issues in my attic. Steve Case at Preferred did a great job of explaining the whole process that involved opening a small section of the roof, removing the mold with a process using baking soda, removing the old insulation, then blowing in new. What I liked was that they also addressed the ventilation issue in my attic that was the cause of the problem. I would definitely recommend Preferred Restoration..

ISCT Mold, Inc. / Mold Inspection Chicago
When I found mold on a wall of a bedroom in my home, my first call was to a friend who experienced mold in a rental house she lived in a few years ago. She has since become quite an expert on mold (there are two main types of mold: toxic and common) and how mold should be remediated. (She also became quite ill from the mold in her rental house as it was toxic.)
She educated me in the following:  You should never do business with a company that does both testing and remediation. That is a conflict of interest. Do some reading online about this and you will find out why this is important. She also told me I didn't need a "mold inspection". She said I first needed for the mold to be tested. On her website she writes that the two must-have tests are the Swab test and the Air test (minimum of 2 air tests). She said to not purchase a test myself at a store; the tests must be done by a professional. (A third test, the ERMI, can be purchased from a lab and performed by me, but she told me to start with the Swab test and the Air test.)
She also told me to not touch the mold and to not attempt to clean the mold. She said in no circumstance should I use bleach on the mold. Drywall and wood are porous surfaces and using bleach on these surfaces doesn't remove the mold.
She then referred me to for the mold testing. I called on a Monday morning (their 800# goes to their main office in Georgia). He scheduled a technician to come to my home on Wednesday morning. (They have technicians in the Chicago area.).
The tech arrived at 10 am. He took a swab of the mold. Since it was on the wall near the baseboard, I asked him if he thought it would be a good idea for him to check that area in the crawl space (he agreed). He set up the equipment to get an air sample in the room that had the mold and then went to the crawl space to swab the small amount of mold he found there. He also took a look around the crawl space in general and told me it looked clean and dry. Next he took the air test equipment outside to get a test of the outdoor air as a control. Then he came inside to sit with me, write up the paperwork, and answer my questions.
If we had done 1 swab and 2 air tests, the cost would have been $325. But since I added a second swab test in the crawlspace, the cost was $400. He told me I would receive the test results via email in 3 to 4 business days, at which time I could call ISCT to discuss the results, get my questions answered, and discuss what remediation should include, if needed.
I received the emailed results earlier than that -- on Friday. I called ISCT to go over the findings. The mold is a common mold (thankfully) and the amount of mold in the air inside was relatively low. However, since the mold was causing me to have allergy symptoms (before it appeared on the wall and in the middle of winter), he suggested I look into having a remediation company do the work so that extra (and proper) care is taken when removing the drywall and the mold.
While the tech was at my house on Wednesday, we also discussed which type of remediation company I should choose to do the work, if needed. While they don't refer customers to remediation companies (hmmm, wouldn't that be helpful?), he said -- for mold remediation -- to never use a company that does other types of remediation work (for fire, floods, water damage, etc.) because most of them won't do the mold remediation correctly.
Well... that certainly limits the number of companies available to use. There are many companies that claim to do mold remediation work that also do testing (a no-no) and other types of remediation work (no-no number 2).
That said, I was very happy with ISCT, their professionalism, their work, their promptness, etc.  I definitely recommend them for anyone who finds mold in their home, business building, etc., or who suspects mold is in the building.
I also asked the tech how they could figure out how much mold might be behind the wall, on the other side of the drywall. He said the air test gives them a good idea of that. Then the remediation company should take it from there.
My friend, the mold expert, also suggested purchasing a Flir (, as she and others who've experienced serious mold issues have done. The Flir detects moisture behind walls -- I haven't even fully read their entire website yet.

Went very well. Got the text that the sample was received. Within a few days, got the email with the results.

I now understand what I need to do with the mold under my kitchen sink.

    PuroClean Property Restoration
Steve arrived within an hour of our call to inspect the area in question. He was very professional and explained what we were seeing and how to treat the problem. He seemed knowledgable, honest and very interested in assisting us with our problem. It turns out our issue wold not require major remediation and was something that we could remedy on our own. He even took the time to explain who to address the issue and where to get the materials.
