Remodeling Kitchen And Bath reviews in Wheaton

Ed Eichele has stated to us that he stands by his work and that he will do whatever it takes, that they are accommodating, open and transparent. Beware, Ed knows all the right things to say, just dont believe any of it. Following are the issues we had with Eichele & Valene Remodeling: Needed to hire a second contractor to rip out and replace our newly installed tile floor and takeover our project. Had to remove and replace wood trim Paint quality grade with option of 2 brands stipulated in our contract was not followed. An untrue story was given as to why a cheaper grade had to be used. Promises of a building permit and an inspector appointment never materialized (3 months). After blaming the City of Wheaton building department for an unexplainable lack of action it turned out that the city never received payment for the permit we paid Eichele & Valene to execute as part of the contract. Our walls were painted and floor installed before the plumbing and electrical work had been started let alone the drywall being finished. Our second crew took advantage of the floor being exposed to perform plumbing and electrical work by removing floor boards vs. access through the basement ceiling as was planned by John Valene. Lack of a consistent work schedule; multiple no-shows without warning. They still owe us money per their own records. Details: Tile Through research of manufacturers websites, the Tile Council of North America, and consulting with a member of National Tile Contractors Association, we were able to confirm that the tile floor was laid improperly and needed to be 100% replaced. Some of the installation related issues: Our warranty for the subfloor and the tile was void due to the use of cheap drywall screws used to fasten the Durock subfloor rather than the required 1-1/4" USG Durock Brand Tile Backer Screws for wood framing (or equivalent) or 1-1/2" hot-dipped galvanized roofing nails. As a result of improper installation, there was so much unevenness and lippage all over the floor that we were tripping while walking on the tile. Nothing sat squarely or level on it. The lippage of many tiles was the same thickness as a quarter or thicker. (See photos) Trim We upgraded our family room from carpet to tile. It may not be obvious to all homeowners that the baseboards are installed prior to installing carpet, thus touching the floor that the padding and carpet are rolled over. For tile, the baseboards should be installed on top of tile, which put the baseboards noticeably higher on the wall. Since the baseboards were never removed prior to installing the tile the end result was a family room with oddly short baseboards as they did not sit on the tile where it should be if installed correctly. Furthermore, the staining and varnishing of the shoes was dreadful. Application of conditioner, stain and urethane was performed outside in 40 degree weather all within 6 hours. Per the Sherwin Williams website one needs to, Let dry completely (usually 24 hours). In addition, the site states that one should; Apply stain only at the proper temperature. For most stains, 70 degrees Fahrenheit is the optimum, with the safety range from 50 to 90 Fahrenheit. The worst part about this baseboard fiasco was the calculated deception exercised where the eating area meets the family room. They removed baseboard from the eating area where it was installed at the correct height for tile to rip off of the bottom in order to match the height of the baseboard of the family room which was at the correct height for carpet. (See photo) Paint We believe that painting before the drywall, plumbing, and electrical work were finished was a tactic employed to give us the illusion of progress after weeks of no work being performed. It was an obvious ploy to distract us from the fact that no progress had been made in weeks. We have since had to repaint all surfaces but 3 walls. Windows There is an entire fiasco with regard to undersized windows being installed. The additional framing required to install windows that were too small led to the threat of additional Change Order costs. One might question why someone would install the wrong size windows. Menards remade the incorrectly sized windows as ordering the wrong size windows was their mistake. Eichele & Valene told us that we owed them the cost of a second installation even though they should have stopped when they realized that the windows were the wrong size. (See photo)

Mark and TJ are amazing. We could not be happier. They did an outstanding job. Their craftsmanship is truly exceptional. They helped design our mantel and it is unbelievable. I would HIGHLY recommend Cunningham Builders for your next project.

They understood the job I wanted done and gave me a fair quote. We scheduled the job and they obtained the parts, were on time, and performed the work. They ran into an unexpected problem, but recommended multiple ways to handle it. Explained everything to me in detail so that I could make a decision. I was very impressed by their professionalism and how clean they left everything. They are now my go-to plumbers!

I am very, very pleased with my new soaker tub and shower surround from Bath Planet. The entire process, was quick and easy. I feel that I got a great product at a very fair price. My salesman Adam was professional and not at all pushy. The installer, Darrell was prompt, hard working and obviously highly skilled. Love the way it updates my master bath!

Steve and his crew did an excellent job. What I thought was most impressive was how important it was to him to listen and do everything possible to please his customer. I would recommend them 100 percent.

We had Best Home Renovations update our large (15 X 15) master bath earlier this year. All old fixtures were removed and replaced. All old tiles were taken out. The shower was removed and enlarged and a new soaker tub replaced the old jetted tub. There were new vanities and sinks installed, new toilet, tiles etc. I have to be honest and say that a few weeks into the renovation we wondered if maybe the job was too big for the Best team. Or maybe they were busy and in a hurry. They are a very nice, personable group but we were disappointed with the workmanship. After a few weeks I think they thought we were being too picky and we felt their work wasnt up to par. We realize that major renovations are stressful but our project seemed more stressful than it needed to be. We had to ask that several shower wall and floor tiles be removed and replaced because a row of wall tiles were caved in around one area and some corners of the small floor tiles in the shower stuck up. They were sharp and I couldnt imagine being barefoot on those tiles. After we started using the shower, we noticed a low spot behind the drain where water accumulates and doesnt run to the drain. We decided just to use a squeegee in that area where the water stands rather than have several tiles removed to fix the problem that would perhaps compromise the water proof barrier underneath the tiles. For the main floor we used quality 12 x 24 tiles that had straight edges and needed to be laid evenly and with care. We had to ask that several of those tiles be replaced. A number of them were not level with adjacent tiles and the sharp corners stuck up because they were placed higher than the tile next to it. Some tiles are sunken and some are raised. All of our old tile had been removed at the start of the project and Best put down cement board over the entire floor so they should have had an even floor to work with. Also, we saw just a few spacers used when the bathroom floor and shower tile was set. After the tiling was finished in the shower floor, a section of the floor by the drain squeaked when walked on. I needed to complain to have that problem fixed. I dont think the Best carpenter was able to patch the subfloor well enough after the plumber put in the drain. The shower floor was flexing when walked on and made the P-trap below rub against the floor joist. The P-trap (installed by the plumber, not Best) was too close to the joist but it seems like the floor shouldnt have flexed enough to cause the movement and rubbing in the first place. The ceiling on the first floor below the shower had to be cut open and Best trimmed around the P-trap so it wouldnt touch the floor joist. Alex and Steve were about to close up the hole in the ceiling when I asked them to stop. I told them that the floor was still going to flex and so the original problem wasnt solved. I asked them to add more support to the underside of the shower floor while it was exposed from below. That would not have been fixed if I wasnt there. Best supported the area and later patched and painted the ceiling below the shower so that issue was eventually solved. Best installed a wall exhaust fan but after we began using the fan it made a loud clicking sound. We couldnt figure out why. I eventually found the installation instructions for the fan and it said, in capital letters, NOT to install the fan in a wall. Best replaced it with an appropriate fan made to go in a wall. I think we expected more care and precision in their work. The reviews on Angies List were very positive and the major reason we chose Best for our project. Our feeling is that the new bathroom is pretty as long as you dont look too closely at the work. We give Best credit for re-doing the work that we asked them to do. It would have been much better though if the jobs were done right the first time.

Words can't explain how happy we are with our powder room remodel handled by Paul at Bath & Kitchen Experts in August 2018. Paul provided excellent ideas to make our very small bathroom function and look it's best and made the whole process seamless. The bathroom went from a major dated eyesore to something out of a magazine. Jerry did an amazing job on the work and was very communicative, professional, patient and pleasant. He completed the work in less than 2 weeks and even worked a Saturday to get the job done quickly. I would definitely recommend Bath & Kitchen Experts to anyone wanting to remodel a kitchen or bath and am sure we will use them again in the future as well. Thank you again, Paul and Jerry!

Extremely happy with the Haris Inc's work remodeling our basement bathroom. As a result of having to tear out walls and floors for foundation work, we had the opportunity to make improvements to a basement that is a critical living space in our small house. The project involved replacing an ancient fiberglass shower stall with a new fangled solid surface manufactured stone unit, replacing tile, lighting, and paint in a small bathroom and replaced tile in a main laundry area. As is often the case with older homes (50's) the Haris crew ran into unexpected surprises that were covered up by previous homeowners. While expanding the shower to accommodate a standard 36" base Haris had to break concrete to move the drain, remove and relocate corroded iron pipe. They were also faced with significant floor pitch throughout the basement that was masked by old tile with tons of thin-set. The project lead presented us with creative options before taking any steps that added to the cost of the project. Importantly, the crew was extremely tidy and well aware that their work would be messy. Each day they laid out and picked up drop cloths, vacuumed (often while sanding or cutting) and stored their equipment to minimize the impact on our daily living.

We really enjoyed how Anthony took our thoughts/ideas and combined it with his to create a design that really fit with the modern and contemporary feel of our home. After having lived in the house for 22 years we now feel like the main floor fits with the contemporary exterior and layout of the house. These concepts were translated nicely into an easy to follow conceptual plan and then eventually the detailed drawings. The Reliable Team was pleasant to work with every step of the way from start to finish. The Planning Departments focus on detail was very thorough and communicated clearly. The schedule for the work was logically and clearly communicated. The site superintendent managed the tradesmen and job site very effectively. The workmanship was great across the entire project. We were very impressed with the skill of the drywallers. Its very energizing and enjoyable to come home from work now to such a clean, open, and great looking home!
