    J & R Auto Repair
I brought my vehicles to J&R Auto Repair in Glen Ellyn on the strength of the recommendations of other Angie's List customers. Now it's my turn to applaud Daryl and his crew. The virtues of this shop are many, but I have been especially impressed with two. First of all, Daryl strives to demystify auto repair. At no point in the process of working with him have I been confused about what he planned to do or why he planned to do it. When picking the vehicle up, I found that he had brought the used parts in the front office so that he could show what went wrong and, in turn, explain how the problem was solved. I understand my vehicle better thanks to his remarks.
Secondly, Daryl clearly LOVES automobiles. He describes himself as a "physician for cars," and I think that this title is spot on. He's gone the extra mile in repairing both of my vehicles (and, quite literally, a member of his staff went the extra mile in taking my car to the inspection center for me!), and I can tell that he enjoys quality work for its own sake. In fact, he corrected a long-standing problem with one of my vehicles (which I had tried and failed to correct myself) for free simply for the joy of solving a problem.
I'm thrilled to have found this business, and I plan to use it for all automotive services going forward.

    J & R Auto Repair
Highly recommend!  Brought my 2009 CRV to J&R Auto Repair for diagnostic inspection.  They completed a full vehicle inspection and were very upfront, honest and accommodating to my schedule.  Will definitely use again for all automotive repair needs.

    J & R Auto Repair
This provider has now done work on our MDX on two occasions. The first one was a simple replacement of the alternator which he was able to take care of the day I called and have it done in about 90 minutes. The second time, we needed to have the emissions system fixed as well as a headlight. He did both, and even took my car to have the emissions tested (bonus!). The cost for all services, with our Angie's List discount, was approximately 40%-50% less than the cost would have been for the same services at the dealer. I would recommend these guys to anyone needing work on their car.

    J & C AUTO SERVICE
Everything was handled efficiently and courteously. I went in knowing the car needed major repairs as the previous garage I went to did not seem to be checking out the car for potential issues as I had been asking (and seemed to be creating some). At this point it was running very rough and leaking oil. After describing all the symptoms J&C inspected the car and found several serious problems, carefully described what could wait and what shouldn't. All repairs were done on time and they even fixed a problem with the brakes (loose bushing) at no cost that arose from a previous brake job at another garage.

They replaced all necessary parts and was completely honest about what was needed, even going so far as to treat everyone there as family. The price and quality were a great combination. They also offered services to maintain a relationship with them as a reliable business for all future interactions. The car has run smoother and any noticeable problems have been solved along with ruling out repairs that there was no evidential need for even though other shops had prescribed them.

    ARROW TRANSMISSION SVC
The manager, Mike was very friendly AT FIRST. Once my vehicle was in their possession, he became a different person, forgetting who I was and the promises he made about his service. He never returned calls, and was "out of the office on personal business" for 3 days. It was impossible to get an answer out of him or his staff, when they actually answered the phone. They held my Minivan "captive" for 2 weeks. After 10 days, I became more assertive and the manager, Mike, told me to rent a van and he would reimburse the cost once my van was repaired. He did not. I was out $300 and was lucky to talk the warranty company to covering half of the cost. Once I got my van back, I called the warranty company to complain about them taking so long to process authorization for his work to begin. (this was the reason he said it took 2 weeks). They informed me that the authorization was given to Arrow Transmission on the second day they had it and they paid him 2 days before we were told it was ready for pick up. So, either it took them a total of 12 days to rebuild my transmission or they waited until they were paid by the warranty company to release our van. To make matters worse, the steering wheel on the van was crooked, and after driving it less than a mile, the transmission started slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear. I called them as soon as I got home. Mike told me that "this never happens". He asked me to bring it back in the following week, and when I called the following week, he asked me to bring it in "after the holidays", after the holidays, he told me his "moonlighting mechanic" (the only one who knows how to rebuild the trans on a Honda Odyssey) was out sick for the week. I am still waiting to get my van back in. He is now avoiding my phone calls because he promised to pay for a rental car during the RE-repair. He told me I would have to use my credit card for the rental and when I refused, he hung up on me. I spoke to 3 rental car agencies in the area to make sure he was able to rent a car on his account and all of them stated that they do not honor Arrow Transmission anymore because they have not paid in the past. DO NOT GO HERE! My reputable mechanic that I have used for OVER 15 years recommended AAMCO, just down the street and I got the name mixed up and went to Arrow. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
