    AFFORDABLE APPLIANCE
They confirmed it was 99% chance of a bearing and would cost about 75% of a new one to repair. They wanted to spare us the expense of an unnecessary service call to to confirm it was toast. I really appreciate their honesty every time I have used them. I took their advice and am heading to the appliance store.

    AFFORDABLE APPLIANCE
Very professional and highly informative. Sadly the part needed for our fridge was discontinued and he could not fix it. Did provide information on different fridges and their typical life spans and which one was best in each category. They do repairs not sales so he took the time on recommendations. Very polite.

    Freedom Appliance Repair
Everything about the call was fine -- he showed up on time, fixed the washer and the cost was reasonable. What I didn't like is that he held very strong political opinions that were opposite to my own which is, of course, fine. Free country. But I did not appreciate being dragged into a debate I did not want to have about them. The whole encounter became very uncomfortable and I could not get him out the door fast enough. Other than that, the experience was fine.

    BENSON'S APPLIANCE
On 1/9/13, I purchased a Maytag microwave model #MMV4203WW and Maytag dishwasher model #MDB8949SAB from Benson's in Peoria, Il.  After installation, I noticed that the metal flap in the microwave (vented to the outside) has a very "tinny" sound when the wind blows outside.  I called to complain about that noise and stated it sounds like I have placed a cheap product in my home. The person who andwered the phone stated, "Oh ya (sic), Whirlpool bought out Maytag and really cheapened them."  I told him I have purchased every Maytag appliance in numerous homes from them since 1980, and would have appreciated knowing that BEFORE I purchased the items.  I could not have the microwave removed because I had a contractor scheduled to come to install tile on the kitchen backsplash (the microwave had to be in before the tile).
At the same time I complained that the dishwasher was not getting the dishes clean, and the piece at the end of the upper rack kept falling off.  The upper rack was loose, as was the model I looked at in the showroom.  I asked if I had received the floor model, and was told "no."  I continued to inform them that my dishes were not getting clean.  Then they told me that in addition to running the hot water at the sink before every load (which I had already been doing), I had to use the "added heat" option for every load.  Then one of the servicemen told me I had to change from liquid dishwasher detergent to the "pods."   So I purchased the most expensive brand I could find, "Finish Quantum."  I called Benson's the fifth time and spoke to Mr. Scott Benson and reiterated my previous requests that I wanted the dishwasher removed from my home and a full refund for the product and installation.  He said tha he would only give me $572.75 back (there was a 20% re-stocking fee) and the cost of installation would not be refunded.
When I went to purchase a Kenmore Elite dishwasher (which gets every dish clean every time), from Sears, the sales associate showed me a sign in Sears which states that they do not charge sales tax on built in appliances in Illinois.  Benson's had charged me $73.59 for sales tax alone on the 2 items I purchased.  I reported this to the Consumer Protection Division, Office of the Attorney General.  Mr. Benson replied that they "do charge sales tax on all of the products we sell because we are not considered a ""Construction Contractor or real estate developer."  He went on to state, "We did perform service on the dishwasher when it was in her home, but found that the unit was functioning electrically and mechanically as designed by the Whirlpool company."   In my opinion that statement completely ignores my complaint that the dishwasher did not clean the dishes!!  He went on to state, We are sorry we could not please (customer's name), but feel we did try.  Perhaps Benson's ad, "Pleasing you pleases us," should be eliminated from their advertising.  I also learned that Consumer Reports rates this dishwasher very low in cleaning ability.

    VALLEY MORTON APPLIANCE
Water was collecting at the bottom of the dishwasher, sometimes it flooded into the kitchen, then sometimes it wouldn't fill with water. Bill was right on time for the 9 am appointment, and he determined the water sensor float was out of alignment. He adjusted it, showed me how to make sure it was functioning properly in the future, and charge me only for the house call. Last year, when my dishwasher wasn't cleaning completely, Bill found an obstruction in the pump inlet, removed it with tweezers, and only charged me for the house call. A different repairman wanted to charge me $350 for a new pump! Bill also showed me how to clean the gunk out of the sprayers. Last year, when Bill repaired my washing machine, he showed me the part that was failing and how it had deteriorated by comparing it to the new part, and even gave me a discount since he had the part in his truck, ready to install. Bill is also always very cheerful and friendly.

    Dave's Appliance Service
I called Dave on a recommendation from my parents, who had used him for years.  He said the main pump on my dishwasher had failed and would need replaced, but it would cost over $300.  He said there was a delay in getting the part, but didn't explain why.  After not hearing from Dave for about a week, I called, and he said the part was still not available.  After another week of no information, I called again, and again he said the part was unavailable.  I called Marcone myself and got the part delivered to my house in 48 hours for less than $300!  I called a different repairman who showed up that day, diagnosed the problem as a simple obstruction that he removed with tweezers, charged me only for the house call, and told me I didn't need the pump I'd purchased.  When I spoke to Dave days later (I honestly don't remember whether he called me finally or I called him), I said I had it taken care of and no longer needed his services.

Our stove stopped working after a thunderstorm. The technician came and checked the stove, checked the price of the piece needed to repair it and gave us an estimate. He was helpful and friendly. I would use them again. The insurance company agreed to pay for a new stove.
