Tile Installation reviews in Warrenville

  • AS usual, Handy Men & Mrs. Helper (HMMH) did a fantastic job. The projects were sort of scheduled in phases, Hall bath first, Master bath and new shower stall second, with backsplash installation somewhere in between. Andy (owner and President of HMMH) provided a day-by-day schedule of what would be done and who would do it. First carpeting throughout the pathway to both bathrooms and kitchen was covered in plastic and tarpes. HMMH is always very careful at covering furniture, flooring, and cabinets in order to avoid any damage and the spreading of construction dust. Controlling the construction dust is an impossible job, but HMMH does a great job at attempting to control the dust. We started out by removing all the wall and floor tile in the Hall bath. This included chipping off floor tile that had been set in 1/2" of thin set. And of course, being on a slab, the floor was very uneven and had to be leveled. Once the wall tile was removed, we also found that the bathtub was off (tipping towards wall) by 1/2" so the bathtub had to be leveled. Once all of this was done, Scott (one of four people who worked on the project) proceeded to discuss tile layouts, niche locations, and plans for the floor tile with me before he started laying out all the tile. Once Scott put the wall and floor tile in, Virgo came in to do any patching of the walls required and then painted the entire bathroom. Because the glass shower doors that I purchased were extremely difficult to install, the installation of the glass shower doors was scheduled with a professional installer, All Custom Glass. The next day, All Custom Glass came in to install the shower door on the bathtub. Matt and Dwight (All Custom Glass) spent about two hours installing the glass door that had to be left UNTOUCHED for 48 hours in order for the caulking to dry. Then Scott proceeded to install the wall tile in the kitchen for the backsplash. This was a fairly simple job and was completed within a couple of days. The bathroom and kitchen took approximately 13 days to complete. Next Scott started the Master bath, tearing out the wall and floor tile and the bathtub. We of course ran into the same problem with the floor. The floor was extremely uneven and had to be leveled. Scott also installed a new fan with light above the shower stall. Martin came in to do the patching and drywalling before Scott could continue. Once this work was done, Scott and I once again discussed the layout of the floor and wall tiles and where the niches would be located. This was more of a challenge because the niches on the Hall bath wall were interfering with our planned location of one of the niches in the Master bath. Once all decisions were made, Scott proceeded to tile the floor and then the shower stall. Once again, the installation of the glass shower doors was scheduled with a professional installer, All Custom Glass. Scott finished the tiling, and Virgo came in to do the final patching and painting of the bathroom. The next day, All Custom Glass came in to install the glass shower door. The Master bath took about 12 days to complete. I am absolutely thrilled with the results and would recommend HMMH for all your renovation needs. Andy has a crew of professionals who take their work very seriously and who are meticulous in the work they perform. I have used HMMH several times in the past and they would be the first and only company I would call with any renovation projects. They can't be beat! P.S. The cost listed below does not include the purchase of the shower doors or tile.

  • All work was completed as requested, plus additional area in basement was covered with insulation, and repairs of vinyl siding and caulking of that outside area were completed during this time period. Work areas were clean of any debris and extra supplies placed in acceptable areas. I would request their services again, as they were easy to work with and flexible in completing extra requests during the time period.

  • They were excellent. I recommend them. They can do electrical work, plumbing and birth room re-modelling. They are really good. Their pricing was very reasonable. I was happy with the work when they finished. There were no problems at all. The workers were very respectful, clean up afterwards and did a professional job. I would use them again.

  • Our desire was to update our townhouse so that it could be put on the market.  Since Peter knows the current styles and has himself flipped houses, he made sure the house was marketable and used plumbing and light fixtures and decorative accents that are tasteful, current, and also affordable.  We did buy several of the hardware items ourselves, but when were uncertain, he made attractive choices himself--including features we had not thought of (for example, bathroom mirrors that rapidly defogged).  His crew was perfectionist and hardworking and also very neat, cleaning up at the end of every day.  He started exactly on the day he said he would and in fact delivered on everything he promised.  A nice surprise was that he brought in at the end of the work at his own expense a flawless cleaning lady.  Everyone at Design Invention is multi-talented--Peter himself rewired the TV area.  We had many choices of beautiful counter top material and are delighted with the attractive end result.  Because today's home seekers do not like brass, Design Invention de-brassified our home, including switch plates and outlet plates.  Peter genuinely wanted us to be happy with our home remodeling.  The most wonderful result is that all the remodeling is integrated and perfectly consistent.  Our home has been utterly refreshed and is so beautiful that we will miss it when we move.

  • Awesome group to work with. Can't say enough good things about everyone who came to work on the bathroom. Courteous, hardworking, great group of people.  My bathroom looks fantastic!
Great selection of tile at the store; I'll be back for more flooring in the very near future.

  • We spent about a month on this and finally requested and received a refund of our $799 deposit/purchase of Angie's List Big Deal. Bob and Jim are personable and reasonably responsive with regard to timeliness.  Based on other reviews, I didn't have concerns that the work they would do would be anything but good.  Our issue was price.  We did not realize the Big Deal was for an extremely tiny bathroom, so there were a lot of extras involved in their proposal.   We understand that bathroom renovation work is not cheap, by a long shot, but we feel their price did not really offer the value we expected from the supposed "deal."  Our final proposal was severely reduced in what they would be doing, but their final proposal did not change much to reflect all the reductions we had made.  Going back to the original deal, and to give some perspective with which readers can judge our opinion, the original value of the Big Deal is supposed to be $9,000, meaning this would be their cost for remodeling a very tiny hall bathroom space with a small amount of tile and floor and a new inexpensive tub or shower and one cheap vanity and toilet.  When I looked at the costs of other projects reviewed, I think those costs are high for what was done.  So basically, if price is not an issue for you at all, it looks like they would be a good choice and would do good work and probably quickly, but they are expensive.

  • The positive feedback is that the cabinets that were put in are great.  They are from an Amish company in central Illinois.  The demolition was done very well and limited the mess and dust.  The negative is that we now need to redo the flooring and spend another $3-5K because of incompetence.  The flooring started to come up after about 9 months, and now it is almost all loose.  The flooring people that have come in and given us estimates have all been shocked at the poor workmanship.  They had tried to build up the level of the flooring with a thick layer of thin set.  The thin set did not adhere to the tile.  Additionally, the dry wall installation is terrible, the painting was terrible, and the overall work was pretty bad.  The contractor, John, is a nice guy and was responsive until the last check was written.  He just uses very poor subcontractors for the flooring, dry wall and painting.  We did talk to him about these problems but nothing was offered as to fixing the problems.

  • From start to finish the project was terrific.   Steve and Andrea were helpful at all stages from the design ideas to the final photographs.  I had a old tub removed and a complete remodel of my master bath.  The results exceed my expectation!
I highly recommend Steve Best and his team for their honesty, integrity and quality of workmanship.

  • Two men came to do the work.  They were very nice and professional and did a good quality job.  My only complaint is that the price was too high.  When you divide the price by two (two people), and then divide it by the number hours it took to do the work, it worked out to around 80 dollars per man per hour.

  • I thought the master bath estimate was a bit high. He has a relationship with a vendor in the area for me to get new shower door. He was professional, punctual and friendly. I have used his services before.
