    HoneyDo Handyman Service Corp
If you are looking for an experienced, reliable handyman who cares about doing the job right at a fair price, then call Honey Do Handyman. What good is it paying for a job if it is not done right? He has worked on two home projects for me and his quality of work and extra effort has him now scheduled for two more.

    North Shore Insulation Co. Inc

Absolutely fantastic service and great prices.

    Very very professional!

We had hot and cold spots in the house.  We were concerned our furnace was not the correct size for the square footage.

Having the insulation placed in our attic made a huge difference in our house

We had several companies out and many attempted to sell additional features not needed.

This company did not do this at all.  Very thorough in explanations of what was and was not needed.

    I would recommend him highly!!

James Schoenbeck, Senior Sales Associate, scheduled and cancelled the appointment three times.  When he did finally perform the service, the camera was not charged and only partially worked.  The evaluation was worthless.  He recommended additional products that were not needed and his prices were very high.
I would not recommend anyone work with him.

    Neighborhood Remodelers
We couldn't be more pleased with the job they did as well as how professional everyone was involved in the project. They took the time to make sure we were completely satisfied with everything they were doing. They quoted us 7-8 weeks and completed the project within 7 weeks. We love our new kitchen!

    Green Attic Insulation
I thought the service was very detailed and reliable. I am in the process of fixing the flaws they found. They intended for them to do all the repairs, but most of them I can do myself.I would call them for the repairs I cannot do.

    Illinois Insulators
I bought an $89 Groupon for 300 sf of attic insulation. The salesman barely looked in the attic, he did not even climb into the attic and could not possibly see above the bedroom where I indicated we have a problem. He determined that the insulation in the attic is fine, so he will apply the Groupon as a discount for the walls. He insisted the wall insulation was not sufficient even though his measurements indicated that only the insulation between the garage and the bedroom above it was faulty. His estimate for that insulation was substantially more expensive than 3 other estimates that I got over the phone (all others quoted the price per square foot and described the work, which they were very familiar with). It's perfectly OK to offer a discount in order to get me as a customer, it's not OK to recover the discount with inflated prices, and I think this is what they intended. In the end I just got the attic insulation, which according to the Groupon was very discounted, therefore, the price I paid was very inexpensive. Another problem with these guys is how they do not answer the phone or emails. They let weeks pass and answered only after intervention by the guys at Groupon. In contrast to all this, the people they sent to do the job were professional and did very good work.

Wayne Mortensen & Son, General Contractor
Wayne did a wonderful job on all counts.  Wayne has a very low key, professional demeaner and is very easy to talk to.  He is very detail oriented and will provide accurate bids on jobs.  It will amaze you how other general contractors will provide quotes with absolutely no details, so this is very unique and important.  He communicated very well and scheduled his subcontractors to optimize the work flow.  He went out of his way to deal with any scheduling problems that came up, even those imposed by us.  I trust Wayne and his subcontactors to the point of allowing him to work without me being present and provided him a house key.  Wayne even worked while the family was away and on vacation.  Wayne provides great insight for suggestions if you are open for that.  I have worked with Wayne for over 10 years and am presently working with him on a new front door installation, so would highly recommend him for any job.

Do:  Make sure to ask questions and ask for suggestions.
Understand what is driving his schedule as he is probably got several jobs going at once, so you will not be the only job being
            worked on.
            Feel comfortable with his honesty
Get additional quotes just to prove to yourself that he is the best choice.

DON'TS ;    Big don't for any job is to start the demolition without having all new materials available.  This is not specific to Wayne as he will tell you the same thing.  Have all cabinets, cabinet hardware, applicances, toilet, sink, faucets, tubs, cabinet tops, etc sitting in your garage before you tear up any room.  Wayne will amaze you as to how quickly he can get work done, so not having the above items will make the renovation so much longer than it needs to be.  This certainly does not apply to those items that Wayne will provide as he will be on top of the delivery and installation.

    USA Insulation of Chicago
I needed to get an estimate for insulation of the garage ceiling, above which we have a bedroom. This is very common kind of work, and it turns out that all the companies I called were very familiar with it. When I called this company I described the work that needs to be done and asked to get an idea of how much it may cost. The guy said he would have to come out and check. He came on time and was professional and polite... initially. After briefly checking, the price was about 3 times the price of another vendor (which was in turn 30% more expensive than the cheapest). He proposed to insulate with poly urethane-type material, which he said can be injected. When I told him that the other company is 3 times less expensive, and that they suggested to use cellulose, he said he had never heard that cellulose is used for this type of application and that cellulose gives the lowest 'R' value *which is not correct, fiberglass gives lower value and in addition it looses the insulation value as it packs, which cellulose does not). But his tone is important, it was like "what a ridiculous idea". In all, I called 6 companies. One suggested to use poly urethane after removing the garage ceiling, and his price was 2.5 times less than USA's price. All the other 4 suggested to use cellulose. So apparently the idea is not so ridiculous. Either they guy was lying or he does not know what he was supposed to know. Either way, I would not use him. But that's not all! When we were hesitating to spend 3 times the price, he started the unrelenting pressure to decide NOW. NO! we cannot call him back later, it's now or never.  I was polite and patient with him, until my wife called me to another room and said "enough with him! If he insists to decide NOW, he must be hiding something. Turns out he sure was. One good thing came out of all this: from now on it will be very easy to tell someone like that to please leave. For the "ridiculous idea" fiasco I would have given him a 'D', but considering the pressure "to decide now", for that he gets a solid 'F'.
I forgot one more thing, I told him the garage is 19 by 19 feet. He said a standard garage is 20 by 20. This is probably correct but my garage is still 19 by 19. He measured it and said again it is 20x20. It's not, I wish it were. If he does not believe his own measurements, why is he measuring? Why? So he would be able to inflate the price, but look like he is talking facts.
