Siding reviews in Sleepy Hollow

    Aloha Construction Inc

We have several projects that we want to do to our house currently, including new gutters, siding, painting and a full bathroom remodel.  We went on Angies List to find a contractor that could do some or all of these projects.  My wife and I set up a time on a Friday afternoon to meet an Aloha Construction representative at our home to review all the work and to receive a quote.  We took off work to accommodate this meeting.

The representative never showed, and when I called Aloha Construction an hour after the missed appointment, I was told the person that was supposed to be doing my quote meeting was no longer with the company as of this week.  For some reason, no one knew that this person was supposed to meet with us, but I thought it was just an error on their part, so I rescheduled the meeting for the following day during the afternoon, which they stated they appreciated.

Then they didnt show up for that appointment either.  When we called today, there was no explanation given.

I am happy this happened at the beginning of the process with Aloha Construction because I would have hated to hire them and find they couldnt keep deadlines and performed shotty work after I contracted their services.  If they cant be professional at the beginning of a project, I have no confidence they are good at any other aspect of their work.

It is hard to fathom how they have such a good rating on this site and it is very strange they have an A+ rating with BBB.

As someone that puts a lot of stock in consumer reviews of contractors, as Ive seen many professional companies and many companies that are shady and without regard for their clients.  My hope is that others will read this post and think twice about entertaining working with this company.

    GMART Inc
Greg and his crew at GMart are top notch.  We got multiple quotes for re-siding our house, all from Angie's List.  Greg came out and discussed the project with us in detail, and had both creative suggestions as well as options for keeping cost reasonable.  He listened to what we wanted to do and put together a quote that was very competitive.  Before and during the job, Greg was in contact with us via phone to confirm where things were with the schedule (even calling me once to let me know he would be 5 minutes late to a meeting at our house!).  The job took about 10 days in total, and needed to be completed as two different sessions since we needed to coordinate some other work being done to our house around the same time.  The crew at GMart was professional and very detail oriented.  They took extra time to put some very subtle details in place with some of the trim around our windows, and we couldn't be happier with the results.
On top of this work, we had some water damage behind some of the siding that was removed.  Greg took pictures of the damage, and took care of fixing this up for us to ensure it is done right.  We offered multiple times to pay him for the extra work involved here, but he wouldn't accept any additional payment even though this clearly involved more work than expected.
We will be recommending GMart to anyone we know looking for new siding in the NW Chicago suburbs.  They wholeheartedly deserve their "A" rating here on Angie's List

I had originally called Mariusz to set up an estimate of cost for fixing damage to our soffit and faschia that had occurred over the summer when we got hit by lightening.  The whole piece of trim on the faschia needed replacing, the soffit needed to be fixed, and some shingles on the roof needed to be re-nailed down. Unfortunately,  we couldn't find an exact match of our trim (it isn't made anymore), but helped us find a color that was very close (you can't even tell the difference). He came out, gave us a pretty good estimate, and had his guys out the next day!! They only took a couple hours, cleaned up after themselves, and were gone before I knew it! The only issue was getting a hold of Mariusz to pay him! He's a busy man! He also gave us an estimate to redo the siding on our house that got messed up in the same storm. Again, no matches to the siding - no longer made- so we have to do the whole house. He gave us a very reasonable estimate for that, and was able to break it down like we asked for insurance purposes. We will be calling him back in the spring to do the siding work!!

Work was done as per the contract, Mariusz came out and discussed the options we had and measured. We had dentil molding that was wood, part of the original decorative features installed when the house was built. Unfortunately that had to get covered over as there was no real way to work with it. We were sad to see that go but are very pleased with the end result. No more maintenance and painting!
They did great work but there was a gap between when the facia/soffits were installed and when the gutters were finally hung. The gap was between a week and 2 weeks and I had to contact them to find out when the job would be competed. The reason I became concerned and called was because we had some major rainstorms and I was concerned that we had no gutters. (Just to be clear, the rainstorms were not the reason for the delays, but rather I suspect scheduling the appropriate crews for the specific work.)

    A.B. Edward Enterprises, Inc.
We requested a quote to replace our cedar siding with Hardi board as the woodpeckers have been destroying the exterior of our home. The AB Edwards representative Chris came out on time, was very punctual, professional and friendly. He walked the exterior with us, did measurements and discussed design ideas with us. After about an hour and a half he finished his tasks and said he would get a quote to us either at the end of that week or early the following. That was the last we heard from him. I sent a follow up email on June 26th and was told "Let me see what happened". Again no response. I then emailed again on July 1st and was tole "We are working on it". That was the last I ever heard from them. I emailed again on August 11th and have never received a reply. Very disappointing that this company with so many good reviews would have such terrible communication. I said I would use this provider in the future solely based on the reviews of their work. I cannot hold a whole company responsible for the actions of one employee. Perhaps if they provided me with a quote my reviews may change...

    Update:

AB Edwards and Chris contacted me and was very apologetic for the issue I was having. Chris explained the issue that had occurred with my quote and promptly came out to meet with me and rectify the issue. I received my quote soon thereafter and received a follow up apology call. All individuals I dealt with were professional and responsive. This has helped change my opinion of the company.

Dustin came to my home to give us  quote on a new roof. He was intelligent, kind, caring and most importantly knowledgeable and thorough. The quote is competitive but decided to go with the company who installed our siding in 2008. thank you Dustin and A & D. I would not hesitate to use your company in the future.

These guys are the best! Andy and his crew are professional and do excellent work. The references I got were local and excellent.
I initially hired them to do the siding, but decided to have them do the roof at the same time. They weren't the cheapest bid for either job, but looking at the others showed me how much better their work was. For a job this big and this critical to the value of my house, I want the job done right, not cheap.
Other folks I talked to showed me jobs that were either far away from me and/or showed inferior workmanship. I never checked out references for the folks that were way more expensive than these folks, because there was no point.
We had one problem that was the fault of a supplier. The first batch of siding was the wrong color. When they found the problem, both the supplier and Andy apologized, and said they would make everything right. They worked extra hours to make up for the time lost. I believe the supplier paid for the extra material and labor, but either way, it was transparent to me.
They kept the job site cleaned up every night during the project.
    I highly recommend them.

The workers showed up early and started late, quit only when raining, but went straight back to work when rain stopped. Slight language barrier, but not really a problem. Very professional, friendly and a nice job.

The two jobs (roofing and siding) went very well.
    ROOFING:

The crew tore off the old roof tiles and replaced with new tiles in half a day. (7am - 12pm.)

    SIDING:

After removing the old aluminum siding the crew then fitted new plastic siding all round the house. All external light fittings had been carefully removed and were later refitted with new support surrounds. They did the same with all external power sockets. On the rear of the house I had a number of external cables for telephone and cablevision which had been installed over the years. The siding crew very carefully had hiden these behind the new siding so I now have a clean siding visual at the rear of the house with no unsightly cables in view. They completed the whole job in one day starting at 7am and finishing at 8pm the same day.

As I said above. A few days later a crew came and replaced all the original gutters and downspouts with new material.

We called them multiple times and never received a return call. They were difficult to reach and they are not listed in the phone book or any other directory. We paid them a down payment and never received that money back.
