Home Inspection reviews in Skokie

North Branch did an inspection on a house we were selling. It is not that he did a bad job, the issues he found were addressed. When he came to do a re-inspection (for a mold issue in the attic) after the service company came out and fixed the issue, told the buyer that he could not tell if the work was done and he did not know if what he saw was mold. (it was not). His lack of knowledge in this area almost cost the sale. We provided proof from the Mold Abatement Company that the work was completed. If you don't know, perhaps you should not offer your opinion. We did not have an issue with what he found, but that he could not recognize that they were fixed.

Lannes Group Home Inspections/ All About Homes -CH
The Lannes group was professional and responsive. Most important, they did a very thorough inspection on the home we ended up purchasing. The inspection was detailed and helped ensure that we knew exactly what we needed to ask for, or repair once moving in. It gave us piece of mind.

Anthony was excellent! Great professionalism and wonderful to work with. He explained everything completely and patiently to me and my family while onsite. The report was received in less than 24 hours - overall great experience and I will definitely be referring him to others.

    Domicile Consulting LLC
I used another inspector that came recommended by our realtor.  After that inspection I was left feeling that I really hadn't had an inspection because of the lack of information provided.
Then, while packing for our move, I came across a page of happiness that I had saved on Domicile Consulting intending to use them when we found a condo.  Yes, we were past the contract inspection period but I needed to know more in depth about the property we had purchased.
I called Domicile and was graciously assisted by Meagan.  She set  up an appointment for another inspection with Dan Cullen.
I can't describe what a great experience it was but I'll try.  Dan was fantastic and was so knowledgeable about buildings and everyhing in them.  He has a passion for his work and explained so much more about our unit including our heating system (along with ways to improve it), windows, appliances, etc.  The results were like night and day from my previous inspection.  I had so much more information this time and was now armed to make some necesssary changes in the unit. We are now moving into our condo with a wealth of information about how everything works and what changes to make now and in the future.
You can tell Dan loves what he does and everything he touched in the unit he knew about and explained to me in language I could understand.  He is truly an EXPERT in his field.
I  would describe Dan at Domicile Consulting as HONEST, PASSIONATE, and with INCREDIBLE INTEGRITY.  I would highly recommend Domicile Consulting and plan to use their services for another property soon.

    First Choice Inspectors LLC
We did not have a great experience with this company. Geo, our inspector, was on time and was personable, but he did not find anything wrong with our house, noting only a few minor issues (fan that didn?t work, slow drain, sticky door, old sump pump). Although the roof was inspected with no problems noted per Geo?s report, in early July right after we moved in, we noticed some cracks in the mortar on the corners of the roof. To make a long story short, Geo?s missing the cracks cost us $15,000 to fix. We called First Choice early in October to let them know what Geo had missed. They were slow to respond to phone calls, and finally after Geo?s vacation and Michael?s vacation, on October 29 we were sent an email with some of the ?fine print? highlighted. Just as our attorney had told us, this company, like all home inspectors, has clauses in the fine print that protect them from everything. They are basically liable for nothing but the cost of the inspection. The lesson we learned from this experience is when you are making what is probably the largest purchase of your life, hire your own people to do the inspection (i.e. your own HVAC person, masonry expert, electrician, etc.). The only bright spot was that we eventually did receive our money back for the ?inspection? in early November, but it took several emails/phone calls back and forth. Unfortunately, the $ we received made a small dent in the $15,000 cost we incurred to fix the problems that Geo missed. Be very wary of this company.

    Platinum Home Inspections Inc

Bill Riga's inspection took about 3 hours, and examined every bit of the house. Due to snow he wasn't able to climb on the roof as he usually would, but instead he viewed it and took telephoto pictures from the alley and the far side of the street, spotting one issue atop the chimney in this way. He also accessed the attic to examine the roof from within. He was so thorough in his inspection and provided such a detailed report, with clear explanations and pictures, that I can't imagine we'll run into any surprises. We started with the exterior of the house, and found a few small problems, including one ungrounded outside circuit. We examined the heating system, and opened it up to view the interior. All appliances were run and checked. Every outlet in the house was checking. Plumbing was checked. Bill also did a great job of pointing out things that I as a homeowner would need to know (locations of shutoffs for water and gas, humidity control for furnace, etc) and documented those with photographs in his report in case I forgot their location later. He spotted a misconnected disposal line that could wash dirty water over clean dishes, as well as numerous other potential issues. I would recommend Platinum Homes Inspections again for anyone needing an inspection.

First of all, Jory was very prompt in getting back to me after I first called.  The timing of home inspections can be a bit stressful when you have only a few days' approval time on a contract.  I chose him from reading Angie's List reviews, and my experience reflected the excellent reviews he has received from others.
He did a complete inspection of the outside and inside of a two story house.  He was very thorough, and discovered some issues that we had not noticed on our previous visits to the house, such as apparent mold in the attic, problems with the water pressure, and chimney flashing issues.  He explained things as he went through the house, pointing out the specific issues.  The electronic report was thorough and included additional information about what the standards are for certain home constructions and functional elements, such as electrical outlets, flashing, etc.  It had some pictures to document some of the problems.  I actually would have liked even more pictures!
Based on the report, we were able to negotiate the sellers fixing some of the issues with the house prior to purchase.
In addition to this inspection, I asked Jory to come inspect a second home a week later.  We were debating about house #1 and had made a contract on a second house.  He was equally prompt and responsive.  The second house was beautiful cosmetically, but Jory immediately found some serious problems with the foundation and brick exterior.  We were able to quickly withdraw from that contract based on his inspection.  And he was kind enough to not charge me for that second inspection within a week, since it was close to where he lives!
I highly recommend Jory!  My real estate agent who was present as well also thought he did an excellent job.

    Focal Point Home Inspection
Joe Poelsterl was the inspector we hired for our new home purchase. He was recommended by a personal friend and we were glad he was. Joe did an amazing inspection. He spent approximately three hours inspecting every inch of our new home and found things that were over looked by me. Being a contractor myself I was more than impressed by Joes diligence. He even made a second call to the house when the heating was not functional on the day of inspection to make sure all was working. I strongly recommend using Mr. Poelsterl if you want a thorough inspection.
