    Irish Construction
Reason for Work: - Roof leaking around chimney Work Performed: - Chimney repairs (before and after photos attached) - New gaskets around pipes extruding from roof - Front steps repaired and coated - Front porch coated to match steps The good: - Price: Did a fair bit of work for a fair price and threw in some extra things for no charge - Friendliness: Crew was friendly and the quality of the work look good on cursory inspection - Punctuality: Showed up at agreed upon time and completed it that day Too Early to Say, will Update: - I cannot assess the quality yet as it is early, and only time will tell. The primary problem was a leak that is hard to assess as it only occurred during a heavy rain. Hopefully, they fixed the root problem and no more leaks. Opportunities for Improvement: - Payment: Cash only. I prefer to pay with a card even if that means paying a few % extra for CC fees for piece of mind and security. - Urgency: The act now, I can get you in tomorrow, must be available strategy creates unnecessary stress when the repairs are not an emergency.

    Archway Clean Sweep
The deal was for a chimney sweep, safety inspection and dryer vent safety inspection. The communication before the service was good.  When the gentlemen arrived at my home I was surprised they did not wear covers on their shoes when they came in, especially with the damp weather. They seemed to do a thorough job cleaning and inspecting the fireplace and chimney from inside, including letting me know there was damage to the fireplace facade that could be a safety hazard if not repaired. I thought they would go up on the roof to inspect as well but they did not. They did clean up after the chimney sweep and repair was complete so I appreciated that but later found that they had dumped loose ashes in my trash can outside. I would have appreciated it if they had simply asked me for a trash bag as we try to keep our trash can clean.
My dryer vent is somewhere under my deck. I told the gentleman I was pretty sure that's where it was but wasn't sure exactly where. He went out to look but said he couldn't see it so he would mark it as not visible on the service sheet. My husband says he must not have looked very hard because it's under there.
Over all they were polite and I was mostly satisfied except for the ash disposal and the dryer vent inspection. In hind sight I think if they cannot perform part of the service a credit could be issued, perhaps towards the repair they performed.

    Absolute Clean

Using an Angie's List special, we contacted Absolute Clean for a chimney cleaning. Our chimney had never been professionally cleaned, and we felt it was time. I had to change the date for our service call, and Dave was able to move our date up without trouble.

As our chimney wasn't very dirty, the job didn't take long, and the job was done in about a half an hour. No mess left behind, the area was left clean. Didn't bother with the dryer vent cleaning, as it was a new vent, and didn't require service.

Guys were polite and quick. Happy with the service.

John Paul Masonry & Tuckpointing LLC
I do plan on using him in the future. I just haven't got it set up yet. I found his name on Angie's List so I went ahead and called them. He just seemed to be very knowledgeable, knew what he was talking about. He called me back right away.

    Absolute Clean
One individual cleaned chimney and other proceeded to point out I needed to buy inserts for my fireplace for $500.  I had the fireplace checked by another professional to verify what I was told.  Absolute Clean was dishonest in its analysis and very expensive as to cost it work had to be done.  I believe I paid much more than the cleaning was worth and will never use this vendor again.

    Baker Stone Work
The chimney needs major masonry work tear down to the roof line and rebuild up before roof can be replaced. They came out on time as scheduled and delivered the quote the next day on weekend. They were able to start the project right away. Two days later, our chimney looks beautiful. We are very pleased with the work.

    J & J Masonry Restoration & Chimney Repair
I purchased an Angie's List $99 Big Deal in January 2013, and Jim Moore came to give estimate of above listed work, plus some caulking that needed to be redone around the joints between brick and wood siding.  There was some question whether I would choose to repair and re-caulk exisiting windows, or outright replace windows on the house, so I didn't have Jim quote re-caulking around windows.  After I decided to repair windows, I also decided I could handle the caulking Jim had quoted, and asked for an adjusted quote without the cost of caulking several areas.  Jim was happy to requote over the phone, then scheduled for March 26th, which had to be postponed due to a late winter snow that left 6" or so on the roof.  Then with a break in weather forecast in early April, they called and scheduled for April 1st, and showed up at 0800 as promised. Jim #2 (of J & J) came with another worker and accomplished all the stated work, and a few more spots we noticed that needed tuckpointing repair, still finishing at noon as stated during schedule of appointment.  Jim did a good job matching my grey-reddish-blueish color mortar even though the house is 24 years old now.  Jim came back on April 3rd to accomplish the acid wash to ensure no mortar sticks to brick face.  All their work was done using tarps to catch the mortar debris and dust, and the worksite and yard are just as clean at end of job as before they came.  Jim & teammate were very professional and courteous, and didn't mind me asking questions while they worked.  I am happy to recommend them!

    Oasis Commercial Roofing
Guttering, roofing and aluminum window wrap crews showed up when scheduled and did outstanding work. The roofing crew carefully removed items near the house and put down 20 foot wide tarps around the entire house which caught all debris. Everything moved was put back exactly where it had been, and after the crew left I collected only a scant handful of small debris from the yard.
Since Oasis is a construction company, I asked Nathan about remodeling our 40-year-old bathrooms. He said he would concentrate on roof repair work during the summer of 2013, but perhaps we can talk about it in the fall. After the absolutely superb way he's treated us, I'm willing to wait.

    J & J Masonry Restoration & Chimney Repair
Outstanding service by J & J Masonry. Jim Moore responded promptly to an email request about whether they would come out to O'Fallon IL for chimney repair on a rental property.  He set an appointment, gave a very reasonable estimate and since the weather at the time of estimate was bitter cold in mid January, we didn't set an exact date for the repair.  About a week later an unusual warm snap was forecast and we set up the repair for Jan 28, 2013.  Day 1, they showed up early as they had stated, and accomplished all the mortar grinding, finding replacements for the bad brick (near match), repointing, and laying the new concrete chimney cap.  The two Jim's (J & J) were both great to work with and didn't mind me watching and asking questions along the way during the process of their work. My project was a little more difficult than they predicted, so they weren't able to completely finish on day 1, but came back next day to accomplish the acid wash to ensure no mortar was stuck to face of brick. Day 2, done quick and early as they had predicted.  Job site all cleaned up, and it was a very pleasant experience working with both of them.  I plan to have them back to do some repointing on my home's brick face, and also a new chimney cap there.  I'd highly recommend them for someone considering masonry or chimney repair.

    Clean Sweep
I emailed Clay for a quote on a chimney repair/ adding a chimney cap as well as a cleaning on a chimney at another property.
Clay showed up as promised to perform the inspection for the quote, and took digital photos of the damage he found. He quoted a price on all the repairs that was fair. He made sure I understood all of the charges before starting any work.
On the day of the repair appointment, Clay and another employee showed up on time and completed the extensive tuck-pointing repairs/installation of the new cap. He then performed the chimney cleaning at the other property. Clay and his employee took care to keep the house very clean during the process. There was no trace left by the sweeps after a very dirty job.
We were very satisfied with the repairs, and the chimney cleaning. Both Clay and his employee were professional and courteous. I plan to use them again, and would recommend them to anyone needing services for their chimney.
