Clothing Alteration reviews in Schaumburg

Sean did the work on time and the quality is amazing. I am very pleased with the results. Every jacket he fixed is really in a good shape and i can recommend him  strongly for the work done. Just know he's at the high end of the price range but the work he does is totally worth it.

    John's Tailor and Alteration Shop
My tailor retired so I tried John. I brought in three pairs of Nordstrom fine wool slacks for hemming, two were new and one was previously hemmed and too long. When I got them home the two new slacks were hemmed one half inch shorter than agreed upon, and the previously hemmed slacks to shorten were untouched. I called John right away and notified him that one pair was not done, he said "bring them in". I accepted the other two pairs of slacks as they were.
I brought the undone slacks in the next week with two more new slacks, and reminded John of our call. He looked at the slacks and insisted they were never in his shop. After ten minutes of haggling he finally agreed to shorten that pair.
I returned the following week and all three slacks were hemmed a half inch short, despite my having gotten concrete agreement on the length. I asked John to make them longer, and he did. John was very angry  the whole time. After fixing the length John said he refused to do business with me again. When I asked why he said that he felt I cheated him when I asked him to hem the slacks that he missed.
It seems that John does good enough business that he no longer feels he needs to treat customers fairly. A "my way or the highway" attitude.

    Jay's Tailoring

I searched & searched unsuccessfully at stores & on-line for the perfect blouse to go with perfect skirt that I already had to wear at my son's wedding.  I ended up searching & finding a pattern, as well as fabric & thread (at Vogue Fabric Store in Evanston, IL., by the way).  Took all to Jay's Tailoring in Barrington, and, after two fittings, with clear articulation by me on what I wanted as final product,
I have the perfect blouse.  Total time was about two weeks.  It was difficult to find a "real tailor / seamstress," even in Chicago NW Area.  The other estimate I got was twice as much $$.

I had originally sought to have a new suit altered, and spent weeks trying to coordinate a time when one particular worker was working. Saturdays from 1 pm until 3 pm seems to be the only time slot for this sort of fitting. Once finally fitted, only the pants needed alteration -- I was told I would be called when the pants were ready as they were back-logged. After 2 weeks of waiting, I called them to find that they were done, but I wasn't notified. Upon picking up the order it was prepared without the cuff which was clearly on all of the paperwork. It was then that I learned that the job had been farmed out to a third party who didn't read the instruction and the mistake wasn't caught until I discovered it at time of pick-up. I was forced to wear the pants as-is and despite the intent of Alterations & More to try to remedy the cuff, I opted not to further adjust the new pants since after showing them to another seamstress I was advised that too much fabric had been cut to do the cuff properly and allow for future adjustments -- plus a slight crease might still be visible from the original fit. Alterations & More never offered me a refund, only a rebate of the extra $1 I paid for the cuff itself, which was hardly worth the time or the gas to collect.

    Jay's Tailoring
After losing 40 pounds there were a few pieces I couldn't part with so Jay altered them for me. He did a wonderful job, very professional. The work was done in less than a week. One fitting was all that was required.

Will use her again.  She does great work.
