  • So how did it go??? Not that great. My Technician Will and Assistant Brandon were terrific guys. Will really seemed to know what he was doing and understood the issues I was facing. They spent a long time at my location. They climbed into the attic and also went on my extreamly pitched roof to inspect the chiminey While inspecting the chimney they spotted a gap where rain water was coming in and were even kind enough to splash some caulk into the hole. Man I was sold! Will printed up the quote and his handwritting is the best I've ever seen. So what was wrong??? They quoted $2150 bucks to tear it down which was in keeping with other quotes....BUT..... they said they would need a lift to take it down. They claimed that their boss was great friends with a guy who owned a lift rental company and could get a fantastic deal on lifts....The price they quoted for the lift??? $3861. The problem I got a quote from a local lift company for the same lift they suggested for under 400 bucks. I really felt this was a major attempt to take advantage of me. Also, in the quote they specified.... "If they damaged the lawn they would not be responsible. Even worse the quote also specified......"If the Chimney collapsed when they demolished it,..... they would not be held responsible. (Don't they have insurance)? None of the other 4 companies I had quote the work even suggested such a thing. In the end I had the Chimney removed for $1995 by a major competitior which included everything including the scaffolding and removal of the brick. (By the way.....My lawn looks great). I hate to write bad reviews. If you look at my other reviews.....all heap praise with the exception of one.

  • This is my first negative review for any company that I've ever contracted with on Angie's list. (Feel Free to read all 5 of mine).
I contracted Kleen Sweep because I was concerned that some leaves from a large tree that sits over the chimney might be dropping  inside the chimney and create a potential fire hazard.  The owner said to me that he could check for leaves by opening the damper from the bottom (which I had no idea that could even be done) rather than the top (which is how all dampers open and close).  He opened it, at the bottom, and left it open after starting a fire to demonstrate how nicely the fireplace was working prior to leaving.  We usually don't close the damper because for some reason cool air usually doesn't rush down the Chimney consequently I didn't notice the problem over the holidays.    However, I noticed the problem after the holidays and just 30 days after we had the work done.  The problem was that the damper was wedged open and I could not close it.  The owner of the company came out and insisted that he would never have left the damper that way and insisted on a $100 dollar service fee to fix a problem that he caused!  This fee was for 5 minutes of work correcting a problem that he caused.  He insisted that he could NEVER make such mistake.  RATHER HE INSISTED I OPENED IT THAT WAY.  Truthfully, if you paid me 100 bucks I  still  couldn't figure out how to open the damper in such a manner.  In effect he was calling me a liar over his mistake!  (The truth is that he forgot about it because he got sidetracked showing me pictures of big fish he had caught in the area on his cell phone.)  I can say I would have gladly over looked what I feel was an honest mistake,  had he just fixed it for free.  However, his blind insistence saying that he NOR HIS ASSISTANT could ever make such a mistake, sends warning signals that perhaps you might want to HEED.    After I encouraged him to rethink his charge....he said...."We'll the fix was free, (in effect admitting he made the mistake), but the service call is 100 bucks".   I reminded him that he and his partner spent 2 hours here and charged us 100 bucks per fireplace.  His comment was " Well, I guess we're free to disagree."    Believe me......I'm a small businessman myself,  it honestly pains me to write a poor review on anyone's performance.

  • it was fine and inspection was thorough, but was just surprised that when advertising "chimney cleaning" they don't literally sweep the chimney?that's an additional cost.  I think the cleaning part needs to say exactly what they will clean.

  • Superior was very professional.  They gave us a time frame for arrival.(4hr).  Called the day before to confirm.  Called the day of when they were about 1/2 hour away.  They (Anthony first visit and Jorge second time) both were on time, neat, wore covers on their shoes when they can in the  house.  They both worked under terrible conditions.  Anthony had to clear off snow and walk across the roof to paint and cap the furnace stack.  Jorge worked when it was dry and clear but about 30 degrees and windy.  They both took a ton of pictures and e-mailed them all to us.  That way we know that we got what we paid for.

  • Anthony and Brad called ahead of their arrival and were very courteous.  Anthony did a good job of explaining the work which needed to be done.  Work was done to my satisfaction and my questions were answered.

  • I contacted Alpha Masonary along with 2 other companies for quotes. I only heard from one of the other two companies. The other company's response for a quote took approximately a week, the gentleman whom set up the appointment was almost an hour late in meeting with me without a phone call or apology for being late and quoted me a price without even going up on our roof. I heard from Alpha Masonary within 24 hours of requesting a quote. I was contacted by Jim Kowalski, the project manager, whom wanted to set up an appointment the next day, which I did. Mr. Kowalski arrived on time, inspected the chimney and the chimney cap by going up on our roof and then came inside to inspect the inside of our fireplace. We discussed the work that needed to be done and at that time I expressed how I wanted the additional brick added to the chimney to match what already existed. Mr. Kowalski explained there wouldn't be any problem with my request, and I was quoted a price at the end of the appointment. The quote was extremely reasonable (a third of the price quoted by the other company), and the job was set up for the following week. His crew showed up the following week, on time, and completed the job. I was extremely happy with the work , the crew was courteous and cleaned up behind themselves. I would have never known that they had even been there. I was very pleased with how courteous Mr. Kowalski was, the professionalism of his crew, their promptness and their pricing. Not only would I be using Alpha Masonary in the future if needed, I will also recommend Alpha Masonary to others.
