    We needed new draperies, were given some suggestions on Angie's List, but one was too far away, one did not answer her phone. We noticed that Wyanet Carpet now has draperies. A very personable designer came to our home, helped us choose the drapes, did all of the measuring and ordering. The order came in a little early; the designer and an installer came with new rods, completed the project flawlessly, as well as helping to repair the rods in another room. They were both very detail oriented. The price is within the range one should expect for custom, high quality draperies. We are very, very pleased.

    I hired the company to do a make ready [clean up & prep] on a single apartment in a building which I own in the  town where I live. I needed the property to be cleaned up so I could rent it again.  I have been a landlord for over 20 years & hadn't found a vacated property in such a mess in all my years. They did the complete interior clean-up which took about five hours. And, the complete prep of the property. they took out all the trash & junk, and cleaned up all debris left in the yard. They did such a great job with that I decided to use them for the yard maintenance also. They cleaned all my flowerbeds & got them ready for spring, placed mulch & trimmed the shrubs and flowering trees. On the inside they made everything look brand new! Cleaning the walls, painting, cleaned the carpets & stripped & polished the wood floors...making them look brand new. The appliances that stayed were cleaned inside & out. They even remembered to get all the light fixtures clean for me. Dusted all window seals & doorways. Shine mopped all they tile floors. To top it all off they even gave the bathrooms a fresh clean look by putting a new caulk seal around the tubs, sinks & shower...which gave the bathrooms a fresh face. All in all I found it to be a very stress free pleasant experience. And, I will definitely call on them for the next project because if they could do so well with a nightmare like that I'm sure the less difficult will be equally affordable and easily handled.     Windows & Siding Unlimited
    The windows (34) of them were ordered before we went on vacation so that they could be installed before the siding . The insulation that they used was the standard tri-fold 1/4 inch. It was taped at the joints, but is not the best way to insulate an old house. This is not what I wanted to do, but was convinced that this would be just as good, with out taking off the old cedar shingles. If I was going to do this again, I would have taken off the old siding, and had blowing insulation installed in the walls. In two rooms, the old windows were removed and new windows were installed. The first room, an upstairs bedroom, the windows fewer miss measured based on two windows of the room. The other six windows were 62 inches long, not 56 inches, which would require that the six windows have to be re ordered. Another delay that we did not want to happen, so the decision was made to take out the sill and re frame in the windows. Well, their framing would not meet any building code that I know of, but the windows were installed. Again, the frames are not square, and the interior side of the windows had gaps of a 1/2 an inch to an inch across the top of the window. This was just covered up and caulked to fill in the wholes. Will have to be taken out an corrected next summer, so that the actual frames can be made for each window. To make this a great job, the contractor would have to show up by eight in the morning, and work for eight hours a day, instead, they averaged only five hours a day in good weather, as fall came and went, the time spent on the job also went down. By the end of this project, it was luck if they worked one day a week in actual hours. This was the longest six months, and the work is still not completed. If I would do this over, I would put into the contracts deadline date, where for each day over, they start paying me a percentage. This gives them an incentive to get it done, and peace of mind that it will get done on time. Other wise, they can just string you along as it takes, and your stuck with a bad contractor. When we got into the end of October, we asked for someone to come over and finish the project, but he told us no one wanted to do it. It was just too much cutting and too many angles.

    The Casablanca fans are incredible. They move a tremendous amount of air, but they are almost silent, unless on high. Even then, they are smooth and whisper quiet. The installation--my husband did it himself--was easy on all fans but one. For some reason, that light fixture just will not attach. I have already called Central Fixture and they are going to exchange that one today. There was no hassle, no complaint, just "We'll take care of that." By the way, my brother-in-law, who works for Shea Homes in California, has put in thousands of these fans, and he has never had a single problem with them. We tried our usual fans from Hunter, and all we had was trouble, so we listened to him and went with Casablanca.
    The store itself is about two blocks west of Knoxville (Route 40), easily found and accessible. The parking lot is huge, and the owners helped load the car that first time, so I had no issues with going there myself, the next time. They have a very large room of discontinued merchandise, and the prices are excellent, below even the contractor's price they always give. My daughter is coming up from Ohio to buy lights, because of that and because the merchandise is of high quality.
    The store sells all lighting products at the contractor's price of 40% off list, so the cost was significantly less than if I had bought them elsewhere. Home Depot does sell the fans, but they have to be ordered and it seems no one does so: the lighting guy there even told me they don't sell them and was shocked when I showed him they did. Before I showed him their own website info, he said, "Those are the Cadillac of fans." The price there is also about 40% off, but you have to take fans as they come, not mix things up to get the perfect fan for you, as I did at Central Fixture.
    At Central Fixture, the service is personal; they don't mind taking time to help you get it right; they know what they are doing--they've been in business for three generations. I am thrilled that I found the company and I highly recommend them to anyone who wants quality light fixtures.
    For the $2400.00 that we spent, we got 5 ceiling fans, lighting attachments, and globes. At the SRP, we would have spent $4000.00.

    Price was very high but we agreed because we expected superior service. Service Master then subcontracted the work to individuals with little to no professionalism. For example, painters teenage daughter told me how excited her dad was about the job because he usually did odd handyman work and had never done anything this big before. Specific complaints: 1. Crew cleaned the house first thing, then the painters came in with their scaffolds and tracked up the clean rooms. 2. Living room had a few pieces of furniture left in it, and estimator said the workmen would cover it with tarp while painting. Instead, we learned from a neighbor that the painters dragged the furniture outside and piled it in the driveway every morning (even on a rainy day), dragged it back inside every evening. 3. Living room hardwood floor had a spot where something had been spilled on it. Floor crew applied floor polish right over the spot. When I pointed it out, I was told that cleaning up the spot would cost extra. (Note: it was not a stain, just a recent spill). 4. At the end of the first day they were there, the workers left every light on (all four floors), the air-conditioner blasting, & the front door wide open when they went home for the night. Fortunately I came over to pick up something & found it. I complained to the manager. The second night they did shut the door but left the lights on again. 5. Workers turned the air conditioner down as cold as it would go. By the end of the first week, the thermostat failed and we had to replace it. We also had a huge utility bill. 6. Cleaning bathrooms (three) was supposed to include baseboards, floors, walls, ceiling, tub surround, heat registers, etc. They just gave tub, sink, and toilet a once-over, no more than I do routinely every week. Rooms were no cleaner after they were done than before. 7. Concrete storage area in basement was supposed to be pressure steamed. After they left we found the area leaking; had never leaked in the 15 years we lived there. We complained. The manager said it couldn't be their fault because they had not pressure steamed the area, even though that was in the contract and we had paid for it. We called a different contractor, who re-sealed the area. 8. After workmen left at the end of the job, I found a new crack running up the entire length of the front door jam. I can only assume they hit it with the scaffolding on the way out. 9. Multiple other irritations and failures--but this gives the gist of the service. The entire job took much longer than estimated, over two weeks in all. Interestingly, the billing we received afterward claimed that entire job was completed in one day.
