The movers arrived on time and packed up my 3-bed apartment in given time. The movers were just so professional and efficient. The delivery was made the next day. I checked the inventory and nothing was missing. The movers did an excellent job and I commend them for it. Their customer service was also just awesome.

DO NOT RECOMMEND ! WILL NOT USE AGAIN. Public beware. given only phone estimate for move . NO CONTRACT given ON MOVE. Showed up with too small Uhaul & items was piled on top of each other. Lacked proper moving equipment & furniture pads! MAJOR DAMAGE TO MOST OF MY FURNITURE. No response from owner when notified. Charged $100 for 20' Uhaul truck for 7 mile move. I would have gladly given worker a "bonus" WHEN HE ASKED FOR ONE if most of my furniture had not been damaged!!!!

FEDERAL VAN LINES INC- Allied Van Lines
We had many issues with each step of the household moving service,  However, the final straw was when they lost a wardrobe box of 18 slacks and over 100 pieces of costume jewelry, as well as a hand truck, and refused our claim after making us jump through hoops to file the claim.

    Here are the gory details:

They cost $5000 more than their $11000 estimate.

They took two days to pack when they estimated one.  This required us to be ready for them a weekend early on very short notice.  The first day of packing was done by a 6 person crew.  This made it difficult to supervise the quality of the packing. The second day ran 6 hours over the time estimate given to us at the end of the first packing day.  This left us very little time to clean and be out of the house by our closing date.

They did not tell us until the driver and unloading crew arrived that we would be required keep track of all incoming items (over 300), checking each one off the inventory list as it came in.  This was very difficult as there was a crew of about 5 movers, which we simultaneously had to direct to the proper room for unloading each item.  This took 4.5 hours with no break for us. We signed off on the inventory list although we were uneasy all was accounted for.

Unpacking was made difficult when we found items from one room packed with items from another without any indication on the labeling.  This meant we needed to unpack all 230 boxes before we knew there was anything missing. It also meant we did not know how much cupboard space to leave for sets of things like china, until all the boxes were unpacked.

When we finished unpacking, we realized we had the missing items noted earlier.  We made several calls to find out the process for filing a claim.  To file the claim, we had to fill out a lengthy form with complete description of each item, with documented value.  We registered a claim and requested a trace.

Two weeks later we received a letter that the trace was unsuccessful.  We were also notified that because we had signed the inventory list, our claim was denied.  Had they told us this was their policy in the beginning, we would not have wasted our time with the documentation.   To top it off, when we unpacked a box we intended to store after verifying its contents earlier, we found many vintage 78 rpm records were damaged due to very poor packing.

There were some things done well.  All crystal and china arrived undamaged.  The furniture was undamaged due to careful handling.  The crew that crated mirrors was very professional.  The loading crew in East Peoria was fast and efficient, although we do not know how the missing items were lost.

Moving is one of those stressful life changes.  We were ready to roll with many of these issues that surfaced along the way. However, the way the claim was handled was a tipping point for our dissatisfaction with Allied.

I found the moving company on Angie's list and the rating was an A. When I called to set up the move, I talked to a very friendly woman who listened to what we needed and proceeded with the appropriate questions to collect the information to set up the move. They were able to accommodate us on the date we needed.
Robert and Harold showed up on time and the first thing they did was to introduced themselves. They were very prompt, professional, and polite. They wrapped and moved our belongings in a very timely manner.
Will recommend to others and also would use them again.
I agree with the rating of an A and will say that you earned it.
    Thanks for all your help.

This move was a very poor experience. During my first discussion with this company's rep I asked if we'd have an onsite quote. From articles I've read I was always informed to ask for an in person quote. I was told this was not necessary. Since I received this company's information from a very nice person I threw my trust into this person and I think I was naive. I had only hired movers once before and it was a very minimal amount of stuff. This time I had more but since I hadn't done this before I didn't know how much my stuff would "weigh". I was told that 5000 pounds costs approx 1500 dollars, I gave a deposit and off we went. I underestimated the amount of stuff I had but a proper quote would have solved this as I would have been given a heads up that I may have heavier/ more than 5000 pounds.
On the other side, the actual movers were super friendly and worked hard. My only issue was that I was told they had to hit a weigh station to get the weight of the truck. I was never shown the weight of the truck pre-load nor the weight of the truck post load. the trip between my old house and new house took an incredible amount of time and it was well into the evening before things were finished. A third mover was added to get things done quickly and again the mover was great and worked really fast. Things were going pretty well.
My wife signed the documents and the movers left. I saw that the price of the move jumped 500 dollars. I looked and nowhere on the document was the amount of weight the truck had. This I found curious. My move was dependent on weight but there was no weight on my documents.
I called and emailed the rep I worked with to set this up and no response. It is now two months later and still no response. I've never had a company just go silent on me.
In summary, no in person quote was the part that initially broke this deal. The documents to support the increase in price were never shared with us. The rep we worked with never responded to voicemail or email.
On my side I could have given a better description of what was needed to be moved BUT this would have been solved with a better quoting process, a more transparent declaration of weight for the price addition and finally a rep that would have actually responded.

They were excellent. They use only vets as their employees and they were excellent. It was very good. They were very professional. I liked how they explained even as they were dismantling and wrapping things, what they were doing, what was the purpose. They were on time. They explained why they were using the shrink wrap and not some other stuff that other companies believe in. I went with them to storage. They did everything promptly.

They asked me where I wanted each item placed,  and  lined up the furniture nicely,  and then asked me,  if it looked okay.   They re-aligned the bed, when I decided that it would look more centered,  if moved over about 6 inches.     They took  EXTRA care in maneuvering the super-long couch between the entrance hall-way and the living room door - it was an extremely TIGHT squeeze,  but no damage was done to the couch or door.    The two movers were polite,  clean,  and didn't scratch or mar any of the furniture.   They charge for the round-trip,  so we saved a little money, as their office was within 3 miles of Mom's  apartment.

We moved out of our house the middle of November and couldn't move into new house for another week. They stored our things on their truck for a very reasonable cost. We were also able to pick up free used boxes which saved us even more money. Both crews of movers were very professional and worked hard and quickly. They protected all floors and doorways and broke down all furniture and reassembled it. I would highly recommend this company.
